Another procedure

This year is all about medicine. Guess I'm going to
have to write a couple of contemporary medical romances.
I've seen a couple of doctors who would certainly qualify
for a great hero, also one or two who would make great
villians.

This week we added a mediport. This is a device that goes
into the chest, with a tube that leads to a major vein so
instead of having a dozen bruises and enduring the digging
for a vein for an IV or to draw blood, they can go into the
port. Who knew?

Medical science is fantastic today. As I research for the
historicals I write, the medicine of even fifty years ago
is so archaic as to be dangerous.

But the cardio rehab is going well, or so they say. And I've
discovered I can read my Kindle while I work out, so it's
not as bad as I thought. It's tiring, but I feel better, so I'm
not complaining.

And, glory, hallelujah, I'm ready to start writing again...

It's what I've been waiting for. I can sit at the computer
for a much longer time, and the words seem to be trying
hard to get out. So, I'll try posting more often and writing
every day.

As ever,

It wasn't so bad

Okay, I've started rehab. It wasn't brutal, at least not yet. But, oh boy,
do they watch you like a hawk.

First thing they do is take your blood pressure. Then there are the
stretching exercises. next the machines. Bicyle, arm thingie to build
up the cardio sytem, a step machine and of couse the every present
treadmill. While you're doing the exercises, they (the nurses) are
running around with their blood pressure machines and their pulse
oximeters (testing your oxygen level) to make sure you are not
getting stressed.   They want the heart rate increased a bit, or so they
say. Then when you've finished your time (five minutes on each machine
they've there with the blood pressure machines and more stretching excerises.

I've survived the first three sessions, so I do think I can do this. Of
course, I'm still not working much on Lovesong. Politics is getting
in the way, but I won't bore you with any comments.

I do feel great and I'm afraid I'm going to be one of those people who
will, at the slightest comment, lecture about eating and exercising properly.

I almost killed myself. And I have only the good Lord to thank that my
doctor wouldn't listen to my half lame excuses.

Tomorrow I promised myself I would get Catherine down on paper, and
I feel good enough now to do just that. I'll have to consider an office
clean up when Lovesong is finished, but that book comes first.

It's September already

Oh, boy, this is taking longer than I thought it would. I'm scheduled for
Cardio rehab next week and they tell me it is brutal. If I can get back
on my feet, I guess it will be worth it.

Looking forward to my next book, a contemporary, "Betrayed Bride",
coming in May from Champagne Books. And I have started work on
a new Lovesong. I learned one thing. Don't try to write when you feel
lousy. I pitched three chapters this week. At first I thought this isn't
too bad, then I got to thinking about the plot and how impossible
it was. It didn't work for either of the characters.

So, now I have a new plot, a new location, and a new goal. To get
Lovesong finished by Christmas.  Fingers crossed. If rehab goes
well I'll make it. In the meantime, Catherine, the heroine of Lovesong
is another one of  those ladies, stubborn, makes up her mind and
that's that.

I'm looking forward to getting her on paper. And of course, if
you've read any of my other medievals you know Arvel is charming,
loves women, and is a skilled physician. Catherine thinks she's the
better healer so that's only
part of the fun.

In the meantime, I have to get my health back. Cardio rehab...
Here I come.

Life is strange

I lost June and most of July. Just now beginning to catch up.
Problem - Well I knew I had a lung problem, but then I've
had that for years. My lung doctor wanted me to have a
few new heart tests, but Hey! nobody in my family had heart
trouble until they were well passed their life expectancy.
85, 90. 95.  One great grandmother lived to be over a hundred.
I should have listened to my doctor. I lose June and
most of July because I had a serious blockage in the
arteries of the heart. So Open heart surgery and two
bypasses.

The road to recovery is long but each day brings a little
improvement. I hope by the middle of August I can sit
at the computer for more than a half an hour.

I did sell a new book, a contemporary out in May of next
year. I'm starting to work on keeping up with my loops,
so you just might see my around.

And, if you think about, you might offer a little prayer
for my recovery.

I'm offering my prayers in thanks giving that I'm still alive.
It was touchy for awhile.

Here We Go - Again

It isn't June - yet, but already a two tropical storms in the
Atlantic.

What does that mean to me?  Why, I live in the south, the deep
south of the US. Hurricanes are bad business. With Karina,
although we were quite a distance from where she came ashore,
the devastation was wide spread. We lost trees, but the worst
part was the loss of electricity for days.

Here in the south it gets hot! Really hot and close to the Gulf
the humidity is often high. Yes I know, we chose to live here.
After all, we don't like cold and snow which we don't have here
usually. But the thought of no electricity for a week or two is
hard to contemplate.

No computer, no TV, no Radio, no coffee, no ice, no hot meals.
No hot water for a shower.  I could go on.

After Katrina we bought a generator, but guess what, it runs
on gasoline, and fifteen US dollars keeps it going for about
eighteen hours. No fun. It reminds me that technology is
WONDERFUL. God bless the greater inventors who have made
ours lives so incredibly easy and lord help us if we have to do
without.

A Free Cookbook

Don't you love the word free! I do. So, I'm delighted to tell you about
a free cookbook.
A number of authors from Champange's group talent came together to offer our readers and anyone interested some of our favorite recipes.
But... this cookbook is not like a lot of other cookbooks. Each recipe has a bit of a history about it. The people who have tried some of the recipes are raving about them. And yes, we have blurbs for our books so you can see what a diverse group we are.
Here's the link to download the book and yes it is FREE!

Darn it but life keeps interrupting!

I planned to write, write, write.

Silly me!

No sooner do I sit down at the computer, I still use a desk top,
(not a lap top), and something happens. Kids arrive to visit, the
cats want attention, my husband needs something, or the worse
thing - I forgot to do something, like turn off the stove while I'm
cooking a pot roast. Yeah, I did do that, and I burned the
potatoes one day, and beans on another day.

Obviously I need to get better organized. But how do you
organize life, because these are life happenings. They occur
everyday, at the darnedest times.

I've decided I have to change my schedule. That means working
early in the morning, or late at night.

But I love sleeping in, so early mornings are not workable for me.
Okay, then that means at night, which will work for me because
I am a night person.

I will be writing at night from now on, because the stories are yelling
at me and I need to get going on them. It's a horrible feeling to have
characters in your head glaring at you because you've let life interfere.
Well no more.

I'll let you know how it works.

About The Cats

What is it about cats? They sleep where they want, wonder around as if
the place belongs to them, eat constantly, and yes, the vet says to leave
the food bowls in place and full 24/7. You want companionship and
they can't be found, you don't want companionship and they insist.

We have three beauties. One is marmalade, one tuxedo, and one
a silver point Siamese and tiger mix, but color doesn't seem to
mean a thing. Nor does age, nor does the place of the origin. The
oldest lived with my daughter before we inherited him. Wally, the
tuxedo was raised by us. We got him when he was only seven weeks
old, and the Siamese was at the vets for almost three years, with a
bunch of other cats. But all three fit the same patterns.

One of these days I'll figure out why when I'm at my desk, or my
computer, they have to be there too. Makes concentrating on my story
a bit difficult.

And printer... Well that's for another time.

Appreciation

I don't care who you are, but at times, whatever job you do may leave
you feeling like nobody appreciates what you do. Sometimes, the
harder you work, the more you feel like you've been ignored.

But then something happens and you know people are aware. In
fact they are pleased with what you've done, so pleased in fact that
they offer some kind of tribute.

It happened to me this month. I work hard at my career. I've met
people who tell me all the time, "Oh, hey, I can write a book." Or
and I love this one, "How hard can it be." Or this one. "My life
would make a great story. Why don't I tell you and you  write it up."

I write fiction. What I put on paper comes from my head. It's not my
life, it's not my hopes, it's not any of my friends. Nope, this is my
imagination run amuck. So, when someone says, "You've done a
great job!" it's a terrific feeling.

They did that! I was just name 'Author of the Year' After the surprise
wore off, I really thought about appreciation.  May everyone learn
you are appreicated for what you contribute at home, at work, or
at whatever you do.
