Writer’s Nook
I’ve been silent on social media and my blog because I needed some time to process the recent events, and my way to do so was to focus on myAmerican Pandarevisions. As so many people from the literary world have been saying, it’s important to continue putting books in the world that bring happiness and comfort to our readers. The hope ofputting more love into the world gets me through the day and keeps me writing.
No matter where you are in the process, I hope to be able to help in whatever w...

Introducing ChiYA!
Writing is so much better when you have your community! I’m lucky to have met all these lovely writers, and we’ve banded together to start Chi YA, “where Chicago’s YA writers come together to discussall things young at heart, adult in wisdom, and rich in literary style. We’re writers who take our craft seriously and believe in the power of stories tochange the world. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a good belly laugh, a swoony romance, or a spark of magic along the way.”

Submission Demystified
This is part 6 of 6 of my series on the process of revising, signing with an agent, and submitting.
Previous posts:
Revisions Before The Call(what to prepare) The Call (including what questions I asked) After The Call: Client References Multiple OffersThere’s a lot of mystery surrounding submission, and after going on sub, I learned why Fight Club rules apply to submission but not querying. Strategically, you don’t want the world to know you’re on sub. For those who don’t know, submission...

It’s a bit overwhelming going from desperately wanting an agent to getting more than one offer to making this huge decision for your career in a limited amount of time based on an hour-long phone call. For those of...

After The Call: Client References
This is part 4 of my series on the process of revising, signing with an agent, and submitting.
Previous posts in this series:
Revisions Before The Call The Call (including what questions I asked)Client referenceswere not only important for learning about the agent and his/her client relationships, but also a fabulous way to meet other authors! I’m still in touch with several authors of agents I didn’t end up signing with. As mentioned in the post about The Call, I always asked the agent to...

Before The Call
Last week, I started a series of blog posts to talk revisions, The Call (separated into Before, During, and After posts), multiple offers, and submission. Up today: discussing what steps I took between scheduling the call with the agent and actually speaking on the phone.
What I researched:Agency
