Writing Conferences: Pitch Templates

Up today, part 3 of the Writing Conferences series, brought to you by my wonderful guest blogger, Maddy!

Check out part 1, Logistics of Pitching, here
and part 2, Writing Your Pitch, here.

PITCH TEMPLATES

If you still need help getting started, here’s a rough template set in a style of pitching I’ve seen used quite often:

[Comp title 1] meets [comp title 2] in [manuscript title], a [genre][series or standalone].
Epic intro, main character intro, stakes, struggles, antagonist, final epic stak...

Writing Conferences: Writing Your Pitch

Up today, part 2 of the Writing Conferences series, brought to you by my wonderful guest blogger, Maddy!

Check out part 1, Logistics of Pitching, here.

WRITING YOUR PITCH

Do it ASAP.

Once you’ve decided to pitch a literary agent, begin prepping your pitch. Summarizing your story early is crucial because your pitch can change your story. You might have 100k written and revised, but sometimes you don’t realize your book isn’t what you had envisioned until you’re forced to sum it up into bite-s...

Writing Conferences: Logistics of Pitch

I was asked to write a post about conferences including tips for pitching and how to get the most out of them. So here’s the first in a series of posts all about writing conferences!

I’ve asked my friend, Maddy, who has had experience live-pitching agents, to share her thoughts. And she has such wonderful advice! I’m so excited to be able to share her wisdom with you!

The posts will be the following (the first five out of six being guest posts from Maddy):

Chicago Reads: CARAVAL

Yesterday on ChiYA, I blogged about Stephanie Garber’s February 11th Caraval event at Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, IL.

I wanted to add another anecdote to this reblog: at the event, Stephanie revealed that Caraval started with just a character named Legend and a setting. From there, she found the voice of the protagonist, Scarlett, then decided the story would be about sisters. Only after this did the plot begin to come.

I loved hearing about Stephanie’s process and how the plot came la...

When Dimple Met Rishi: Review

Written by Sandhya Menon

Happy Lunar New Year!

Happy Year of the Rooster! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA www.public-domain-image.com (public domain image) food-1285310_1920 chinese-17422_1920

In lieu of the lunar holiday and working on the final edits of American Panda, I wanted to take a moment to talk about how grateful I am for this book. It brought me closer to my mother and led to my hearing previously unshared stories about her, her upbringing, and my ancestors.

Writing is a gift in so many ways, and getting to really know my mother and my background is one of the many perks! I can’t wait to share this novel with you all in spring 2018!

Wishi...

The Sun is Also a Star: Review

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or th...
