Heirloom Beam Compass | Way out of my comfort zone!
I occasionally need to draw arcs and large circles that exceed the capacity of my Accuscribe scribing tool (https://amzn.to/3SQfJjM). It’s pretty trivial to create a makeshift beam compass using shop scraps and a pencil but I thought it would be fun to go all out and make an heirloom-quality beam compass from walnut and aluminum.
I don’t work with metal all that often so this was a bit outside of my comfort zone, but it was fun nonetheless.

While the conversion of this firehouse to a wood shop is far from complete, we’re finally at a point where we can turn our attention back to building furniture. In this video we’re installing T1-11 on the walls, hanging cabinets, tools, and clamps, and installing new LED light fixtures.

Cornhole Boards | You Can Make These Too!
Cornhole is an outdoor game where the object is to throw a bean bag into a hole. The quantity of fun is directly proportional to the amount of alcohol consumed. That said, kids enjoy it too and that’s why my wife asked me to build a set of cornhole boards for an upcoming school event. I tried my best to resist but she threw the dreaded, “I’ll just go buy them!” at me and I my fate was sealed. Don’t get me wrong, a cornhole board is a fine project. But with thousands of videos already out there showing how to make them, I just couldn’t see what I could bring to the table that would be new and interesting. So I decided to focus on the beginner woodworker, making the build as straightforward as possible. We currently have limited tools and a limited budget, so everything fell in place as we attempted to make the most epic cornhole boards in the world!

Shop Tours | “Small” Edition
Woodworkers love shop tours! Even if the person’s shop is nothing like yours, there’s almost always a slick storage or organization idea you can borrow and apply to your own creative space. And for many woodworkers, the shop itself is a lifelong project that’s always evolving and improving in hopes of better efficiency.
Today we’re taking a look at three shops that I’m classifying as “small.” See how Kris, Ben, and Eric organize their shops for the most efficiency possible and without breaking the bank.
Can’t get enough Shop Tours? Check out our Community Shop Tour Archive.
