This novel is dedicated to the loving memory of King's older sister, Rhea Lansdown.

King says that while the novel was inspired by his own experience growing up with a sister who was born with a rare heart defect, the book mostly aims to capture the unending love between siblings, and has the added suspense of realistic ghosts that haunt the mind of a successful heart surgeon.
