Greece cont’d
Greek island of Santorini sees strongest quake yet in weeks of highly unusual seismic swarm
I kind of suspected that when I started the process of printing my travelogue IT’S ALL GREEK, it would be a race to see if the book would come out, or if the earthquakes would start first.
I’m really relieved to see that the island has gotten enough of a warning to start evacuations though. The precariousness of Santorini’s more touristy sides (where there are steeper cliffs), compared to the potential damage an earthquake could do to them, meant that if the island had been caught unawares during ‘the big one’ there could have been a massive loss of life. Even if there is damage now, it’s still the best possible scenario in the face of a pretty regularly recurring natural disaster.
