PiQue and upcoming projects

Politically InQueerect Todd

The latest remastered-in-color Politically InQueerect is up on Tapastic. Sometimes you just should not let others make your travel arrangements for you. Especially when that person is a notorious cheapskate.

I’ve got a stack of new comics projects in the queue, though I’m not exactly certain when what will show up where. My plan is really definitely seriously to finish the long Politically InQueerect story I started long ago. I have 12 out of 36 pages already drawn and inked, they just need to be colored. So my goal is to get crackin’ on that, maybe even later today, and have enough of a head start in the queue that I can keep it running weekly even if I get interrupted for other things.

Those other things mostly being my story for Beyond. Because of deadlines, that’ll have to take top priority once the editors are done editing at it.

ghost librarian and hot gay scientist

If you follow me on Tumblr you may have seen a recent post about a ghost story I just wrote. The script is basically finished now, just needs to marinate for a bit. The character designs have shifted slightly from those in the post, though it’s strictly cosmetic. I decided the story is officially set in 1948, with our ghost protagonist maintaining a 1930s appearance, so I had to tweak the hair and clothing styles to be more period-accurate. That means no sideburns, I’m sorry to say, but it’s made up for by fucking awesome suits.

Anyway, THAT story is next in the queue after PiQue and Beyond, and I’m terribly excited about it, so look for it hopefully in the latter half of 2014.

Cheers,

Dylan

It’s a PiQue type of day

Politically InQueerect Archer grumpy face

Another remastered Politically InQueerect cartoon is posted for you on Tapastic. I think this one more or less tells you everything you need to know about these two.

Bonus fun fact: I originally created this as a small set of submissions to the New Yorker, which means somewhere or other I have a rejection letter from the New Yorker.

I’m not even sure people talk about A and B personality types anymore, but it was kind of a thing for awhile.

Cheers,

Dylan

New comic: The Shit I Gotta Come Out About

Dylan Edwards comic artist

As threatened, here’s a new comic for you, regarding the perils of having to come out about multiple things. Ha ha, this is like the most social anxiety I’ve experienced over posting a comic in a long, long time. What fun!

It’s here on tumblr, if that’s your thing.

Cheers,

Dylan

The Shit I Gotta Come Out About

A little comic about how compounded comings out make dating difficult, to say the least. Which one gets you booted?

Bonus fun fact: that thing on my ear is a Darwin’s tubercle. People either think it’s cute or gross. I thought about having it removed until I realized it wasn’t actually bothering me at all, except for the occasional rude comment from strangers.

Wednesday PiQue: Shyness is not one of Todd’s problems

Politically InQueerect Todd Archer kink

The latest Politically InQueerect is up on Tapastic! This is another of those situations were you learn something new about your characters when you color an old comic. Like, I don’t think either of them can possibly be happy with that mustard color on the walls, but Archer was adamant about only decorating with earth tones, and Todd’s just passive-aggressive enough to pick something awful on purpose. For the rest of the comic, though, he is definitely not passive in his aggressiveness.

In other news, I have a brand new comic in the works, a little autobio one-pager. I’m thinking I’ll probably post it this weekend, maybe? We’ll see how the ol’ schedule goes. It’s all penciled, just needs inks and colors. And I can’t decide if I want to try digitally coloring it, or just going with the ancient hand-coloring methods. File under Artist Problems (oh, I’ve got them).

Cheers,

Dylan

Queer scientist-on-scientist action, starring Newton Geiszler and Hermann Gottleib

Pacific Rim Newton Geiszler and Hermann Gottleib making out

I don’t know what to tell you. There I was, minding my own business, when various unsavory artist friends on Twitter led me down the dark path of Newt/Hermann fan art. Just because I have a weakness for queer scientists and doing drawings of same. Here’s the relevant tumblr post.

Other than this sort of filth, I’ve mostly been working on character designs for my story for Beyond (and the epic fantastical science story those characters shall appear in after, and yes, there will be queer scientist-on-scientist action in that, too). I will post some of these arts eventually, but a lot of it is spoilery, so it’ll have to wait. Also, a couple of the characters were giving me design-related fits, and it’s taken awhile to nail them down. I think, though, I THINK I have it now. I’m just letting it percolate a bit before making it official.

Cheers,

Dylan

Pacific Rim fan art: Newton Geiszler x Hermann Gottleib

This is what happens when you get involved with the wrong element on Twitter – I somehow found myself drawing Newt and Hermann making out. I didn’t mean to. It was an accident. THEY MADE ME DRAW THE HOT GAY SCIENTISTS THEY MADE MEEEEEE. Here it is on tumblr if you’re into that sort of thing.

The EXCITING CONCLUSION to the current PiQue storyline

Roy Rectal and the Screaming Reamers

Dee’s and Alicia’s hot chat session of non-stop processing comes to a close in the EXCITING CONCLUSION to our current Politically InQueerect storyline. Bonus points if you can spot the reference to the Austin club scene.

You want maybe to read the story from the beginning? I got yer link right here. Again, this version of the story differs rather a lot (at least as far as the text goes) from the old version hosted here. It’s better now, I think. But I dunno. I don’t expect to go back and rework anything that much ever again – better just to move on to new stuff. Not like I didn’t already know that, but here we are.

After this I think it’ll be back to one-pagers for a bit while I sort out what makes the most sense, chronologically speaking.

Cheers,

Dylan

Melville/Hawthorne and QU33R news

Herman Melville is totes gay for Nathaniel Hawthorne

I told you I was gonna do it and I done did it: a Melville/Hawthorne slash fic cartoon (SFW, unlike Melville’s actual writings about Hawthorne). Click through for the full-sized cartoon and fun facts about Herman Melville’s special tingly feelings for Nathaniel Hawthorne. You can find the comic here on tumblr if you want to reblog.

QU33R hardcover mockupAlso, you should know that QU33R is now available for preorder from Northwest Press! Oh gosh, there is going to be a shmancy, limited-edition hardcover and that is terribly exciting to me. Possibly also to you! Buy this book, but only if you want a ton of brand-new, exceptionally awesome queer comics (and if you’re here looking for Melville/Hawthorne cartoons, I’m pretty sure you want awesome queer comics).

Cheers,

Dylan

Herman Melville Writes His Own Slash Fic

Oh boy, queer history comix! Yes, it’s true, Herman Melville was totally smitten with Nathaniel Hawthorne, and not just in a literary way:

“… already I feel that this Hawthorne has dropped germinous seeds into my soul. He expands and deepens down, the more I contemplate him; and further and further, shoots his strong New England roots in the hot soil of my Southern soul.”

Unfortunately for poor Herman, there’s not much indication that Nathaniel reciprocated in kind. “Hey, I like your book,” is not quite the same as, “Let me plant my root in you, baby.” You can read more of the juicy details at that link up there.
