LOOK at ME! The Texas series by M.B. Feeney

IT STARTED IN TEXAS&
the accompanying novella LOOKING BACK FROM L.A. by M.B. FeeneyName of cover designerThe Graphics ShedOfficial genre of book - Contemporary Romance/Rockstar Romance

Leaving the familiar comfort of her UK home for a weekend in Texas is one of the craziest things Charlotte Evans has ever done. Celebrating her birthday with friends is the highlight of her year until she bumps into her favorite rock star, literally.

Gage Weston is used to having women fall over themselves at his feet … A rock star, an actor, he’s got his fair share of female attention, but what is it about the Brit that grabs his attention from the moment they meet?

Communication issues and crossed wires plague them as they try to work out what is going on with them across thousands of miles. Crazy friends and distance issues aside; can a relationship work, or is it a simple case of ‘a girl in every town’?

"Sounds awesome. I better let you get back to your friends. Mine will come hunting soon if I don't hurry back; it’s my turn to buy the drinks." He held out his hand again. "I'm Gage." I almost burst out laughing as I shook his hand, trying to ignore the warm feeling spreading up my arm.

"Charlotte, it’s nice to meet you."

"You too. Sorry I knocked you on your ass, I hope it doesn't bruise." Oh my God, he actually fucking winked at me. Dare I?

"Maybe I'll get you to check it later." Over his shoulder, I could see some of the girls goggling at me trying to listen to what was being said. "The troops have come to rescue me. I gotta go." With more than a hint of regret, I withdrew my hand from his once again.

"Yeah, see ya." He looked over his shoulder at everyone watching us before disappearing into the gents. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the Spanish Inquisition. Walking towards the girls, a huge grin on my face. As soon as I was within grabbing distance, they did just that and frogmarched me back to our table.

I was in the middle of my non-story when I felt a tap on my shoulder. Turning around, I was assaulted by those eyes once more as they looked directly into my own.

"You dropped your cell phone." Sure enough, in his hand was my mobile. I internally groaned as I remembered the wallpaper was a picture of him from a recent magazine interview that had been posted online.

"Thanks. I didn't even miss it." Our fingers touched with a sizzle, or so I thought. It could have been the booze.

"No worries, Darlin'. How's the ass?" I saw mouths drop open around me at the blunt and flirtatious question.

"Its fine thanks. I'll keep my eye on it." My words made him grin again. I could get used to seeing that smile up close some more.

"Nice job if you can get it." He flashed us all another wide smile and then sauntered back to his band mates.

It Started in Texas, but as we all know, “…Gage Charles Weston will not start something without thinking about the consequences.” In this companion novella to the story that started it all, get a peek inside Gage’s head and find out what he was thinking and experiencing while Charlotte was turning his world upside down and vice versa.

Christmas with the Westons was always great fun, but being out of practice of having fifteen people in one house, five of whom are under the age of seven, was hard work. By the time Christmas Day was done with, I was itching to get out of the house, even just for an hour or so. Dad must have sensed it, because the morning after the big day, he came into the kitchen and handed me my old shotgun. Without a word, I followed him out to his truck, a box of shells resting on the dash.

It had been so long since Dad and I had been down to the old pasture to shoot; over the years we’d taken a bunch of stuff over there to use as target practice, but this time we raided the trash and gathered up a load of old beer cans. It took me a while to get used to the recoil against my shoulder, but I was soon numb to it and hitting can after can.

“Thanks for this Dad; it was just what I needed.” I told him once we’d run out of ammo, and sat on the hood of the truck, a flask of strong coffee between us.

“It was written all over your face boy, you’re not yourself this year.” There was no way I was getting down from the trunk unless I told him what was going on, and the thought made me sigh. “Boy, I’m worried about you. You haven’t got one of your... ‘girls’ pregnant have you?”

Neither of my parents approved of how I lived my life when it came to sex, but never came out and said anything straight to me about it, the odd comment like this one were usually passed and ignored.“No dad, I haven’t; I always make sure I’m protected. Remember that talk we had when I was in sixth grade?” Dad laughed at the memory, making me smile a little. “But, don’t worry. I’ve not even had sex in three weeks.” The fact he was surprised by statement was a little depressing.

“Oh, really.” I watched as he poured us another cup of coffee. “What caused the change of heart?”

“I met a girl.” It was the only way I could even begin to explain.

“That’s great son, your mom will be happy.” I could just imagine my dad stalking into the house and announcing to my mom that I’d met someone, and Mom digging out bridal magazines. I shuddered at the Hallmark movie playing out before me.

“Dad, slow down. It’s not that simple.”

Her main reason for writing is to not only give her readers enjoyment, but also to create a story and characters that stay with readers long after the book is finished, and possibly make someone stop and think “what if...”

LOOK at ME! Montana Wild by Roni Hall

MONTANA WILDby Roni Hall Genre: Contemporary Romance Adventure
Born and bred in NYC, fate leads Jamie to the wilds of Montana where the reluctant city girl encounters adventure with the people, the land and even the animals.

Risking her life to save a child, Jamie shares an undeniable bond and escalating passion with her co-rescuer, Kevin. Empowered by her new surroundings, she risks it all…only to have it taken away by past demons. She has no choice but to hurt Kevin in order to save his life and returns to New York. Searching for Jamie, Kevin learns the truth as Jamie tries to protect Kevin but this time…gets caught in the cross fire.

Swept up into the sea of travelers at the airport, she focused her attention back to the present as she followed the human current through check-in and security gates. It wasn’t until she was buckled into her seat that she registered the panic present in the far corner of her mind. What am I doing? A sickening wave of nausea rose in her throat as clammy beads of sweat trickled down her face. What the hell am I doing? Get up. Get off the plane now. It’s not too late, go!

Dizzy with indecision, she reached for the buckle on her seatbelt as her alternate conscience spoke up. No, stay. Do I really want to go back to my cramped little studio and spend more time alone? Her fingers released the grip on her seatbelt and she closed her eyes, deliberately trying to relax the tense wires in every fiber of her body.

Uneasy thoughts lingered after her internal schizophrenic conversation and she tried to leave all doubts behind as the plane ascended. Finding it impossible to concentrate on reading, she tried to distract herself by striking up a conversation with the unlucky soul sitting next to her.

“Have you ever been to Montana?”

“Oh yes, my sister lives there and I try to visit her every few years. How about you?”

“No, I’ve never been. This’s my first time and I’m nervous,” Jamie admitted.

“It’s pretty enough, but it’s rough country. I couldn’t live there. What brings you?”

Well, I finally got enough backbone to break up with my abusive, criminal boyfriend Derrick three months ago, and then my best friend and only ally, Noah, left on tour. I have NO family since my father died an agonizing death from lung cancer ten years ago, resulting in my mother becoming depressed and committing suicide two years later. I was pathetic enough to attach myself to one of my patients and become a helpless spectator as death cruelly consumed him. Only days after his death, my only surviving relative and second mother died, leaving me a 31-year-old orphan. So you see, I’m a loser and terribly lonely. So when this man I’ve never met in person asked me to join him on an intriguing escape across the country, I accepted.

That was the whole enchilada she wanted to spew out to the sweet, unsuspecting gray-haired matron in seat 21A. Instead she answered succinctly, “Just visiting a friend.”

The summer after high school graduation, Roni worked two jobs to pay for nursing school. During the midnight shift as a waitress, a charismatic young man at the counter flirted with her for hours as he consumed seven cups of coffee. Their first date was eventful enough to be a book itself! Thirty-seven years and two kids later, the love story continues. Just like her novels, life can’t be too simple and you must make it an adventurous ride!

Her favorite place to write is in her hammock at their small Michigan cottage where she literally dodges the feeding hummingbirds while being serenaded by the lake’s loons. Besides writing, she loves Slow Rollin’ in Detroit and the combination of good food, better wine, and dear friends.

Hi. I’m Francesca Hawley and I’m a fat chick. A woman with dangerous curves just like my heroines. Many people don’t like the word, “fat” but I do because it’s the truth and I’ve learned to own it. I am a fat chick and I always will be. When I first began to read romance, the heroines were all thin. I kept wondering, where were the fat heroines? I wanted to read about a fat chick who loved herself—or at least learned to love herself—and a hot alpha hero who liked her jiggly bits just the way they were. Since I didn’t find many big girls to read about, I decided to write about them, so Francesca Hawley – author of Romance with Dangerous Curves was born.In a Francesca Hawley romance, my readers will find authentic, sensual, fat heroines who love and are loved by their intense, passionate, and seductive Alpha heroes. I hope you enjoy their dangerous curves just as much as their hunky heroes do.

RELEASE BLITZ: Revenge by E.M. Denning

REVENGE by E.M. DenningPublisher: Paper Gold PublishingGenre: Stepbrother RomanceContent Warning: 18+
On the heels of a horrific break up, Summer is looking forward to having a couple months at home to lick her wounds. After a run-in with her ex leaves her reeling, she does something she’s never done before—has a one-night stand.

Hunter watched Mitch treat Summer like crap for months, so he was relieved when they broke up for good. Even better was when she invited him to her dorm room the night before they left campus for the summer.

The morning after comes with a surprise neither of them saw coming—Summer has a new stepbrother.

I stuffed the last of my clothes into a duffel bag and then zipped it up. My second year of college was complete, and I was ready for a relaxing summer free of stress. My life was a never-ending cycle of drama, and it all revolved around a guy I could no longer stand. I eyed the box of his belongings and groaned. I’d have to return his stuff sooner or later.

I sighed, picked up the box and headed to his dorm. I should have felt some sort of emotion, but all I could muster was irritation that I’d wasted two years of my life on Mitch. The first year was great. We were inseparable. Young lovers who did their best to be together as often as we could. We spent a lot of time finding places to screw. I should have dumped him at the beginning of the year, I thought as I lugged the break-up box across campus.

I came to his door and set it on the floor. I could walk away and leave it there for him to find, then I worried someone would take it. There wasn’t anything of value, but it was his stuff. I picked it up, balanced it on my hip and knocked on the door.

The door swung open, but it wasn’t Mitch. His cousin, Hunter, opened it. They were also roommates and best friends.

He rolled his eyes. “What do you want, Summer?”

Hunter stared at me. More like glared. He and I weren’t exactly friends. We had the same major so we shared a lot of the same classes. There was an unfriendly competition between us to see who could end up at the top of the class.

I shoved the box at him. “See that Mitch gets that, will you?”

Hunter took it and peeked in the top. “No problem. What’s in it?”

I scoffed. My irritation at Mitch and this whole shitty year spilled over. “It’s all the shit he left lying around my dorm.”

“So you two really are done, huh?” Hunter took a pink teddy bear out. Mitch had given it to me after our last reconciliation. “This was his?”

“No, but I don’t want it anymore.” I didn’t want anything from him ever again.

Hunter laughed and dropped the bear back into the box. “What happened with you two, anyway?”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “As if you don’t know. He probably tells you everything.” I turned and left, but moments later, Hunter walked beside me.

“Did you get your chemistry grade?”

I nodded. “I checked this morning.”

“And?”

I looked at Hunter from the corner of my eye. “None of your business,” I spat.

I increased my pace, but his legs were longer than mine. Even if I sprinted, I wouldn’t get away from him.

He smirked and shoved his hands into his pockets. “Yeah, I knew I beat you.”

“Excuse me?” I stopped and whirled to face him.

“The only way you wouldn’t brag about your grade is if it was shitty. So I beat you. Good to know.” He turned on his heel and walked back toward his dorm.

“Asshole.”

LOOK at ME! The Works of Eris Field

NO GREATER LOVE&LATTICES OF LOVEby Eris FieldEmine Wheeler, a 26-year-old Turkish-American professor of psychiatric nursing, has vowed to marry for love, like her American father. When she meets Marc van Etten, a reticent Dutch psychiatrist, at a conference in Amsterdam, she recognizes him as the man she has been waiting for and knows that she can’t live behind the lattices of old harem rules any longer.

Marc, who believes that his colleagues blame him for his wife's suicide, restricts his life to work and caring for the troubled four-year-old girl he calls his daughter. But, when Emine runs into difficulties, he offers his assistance. Emine, ignoring the age-old harem rule that forbids talking or spending time with a man who is not a family member, accepts his help.

Later, when Emine must choose between accepting the family-approved proposal of a man she does not love or damaging her family's honor, Marc offers a solution—marriage. It will save her family’s honor and provide a mother for his daughter.

Believing that her fierce love for Marc will be enough, Emine agrees, only to discover that it is not. When Marc erroneously accuses her of betraying him, she flees. Realizing belatedly that he loves Emine beyond everything in his life, Marc must find a way to win her back.

“We can’t finish the quilt unless you help us?” Mina said already half asleep.

“How can I be of help?” He was about to say good night to his small daughter and was surprised by the urgency of her request for help.

“We are almost done making the quilt top. We used pieces of cloth that Mama had worn but the inside has to be made of something that the father has worn. That way babies know that their father will always protect them.” She nodded wisely. “That’s how they make quilts for babies in Turkey.”

“The quilt is for a baby?” Marc sat down abruptly on the side of the bed.

“Yes. I asked Mama how we could get a baby for the quilt.”

“And?”

“Mama says that when a mother and father love each other very much they are able to become as one and, when they become as one, they can make a baby.”

“Mama said that?” He choked out.

“Yes, I asked her what it was like to become as one but she said that she did not know.”

“She said that she did not know?” His head snapped up. “Are you sure that is what she said?”

“Yes. In English, she said, “I don’t know.” Mina snuggled down under her covers. “We really need something to line the quilt,” she grumbled sleepily.

“You shall have it. Tomorrow, you shall have it.” He felt new life surge through him. “My whole wardrobe is at your disposal.”

Home is where love lives. This contemporary, warm, international romance moves from the U.S. to Holland, Turkey, and the Valley of Rubies. She dreams of having a home of her home, a home with love, but love seems to have passed her by as she has spent her life looking after the family, including an elderly, frail uncle whose father had sent him away from Holland as a child to escape German deportation during WWII. Once jilted at the altar and now struggling with leukemia, a Dutch psychiatrist, Pieter, has given up on love. He has committed himself to helping the child refugees flooding into Amsterdam. That is, until he meets Janan and falls in love at first skirmish. When she meets her uncle's protege, Pieter, Janan recognizes him as the man of her dreams, and knowing that he will be gone in the morning, asks him for one night. After introducing Janan to the purposes and outcomes of eight different kisses, Pieter vows to beat his illness and return. Alone and faced with saving herself and others, Janan accepts a quid-pro-quo offer of help but will that decision destroy her chance of finding happiness?

“Oh, good! You’re breathing on your own.”

Pieter dragged his eyelids open to see a beautiful mouth hovering over his. “I could stop,” he whispered.

“You’re not well.” The eyes staring down at him were accusing.

“I know.”

“I asked you to shovel," she whispered as a stricken look crossed her face.

“I tried.” He felt her collapse on top of him. Strands of silky hair clinging to his chin and tears cold against his neck.

“I could have killed you!” she wailed.

“But you didn’t.” His arms came up awkwardly at first and then they settled around her holding her close. He was holding an enchanting woman in his arms and, in response to the slim knee pressed between his legs, he experienced a stirring that he had not felt in a long time.

LOOK at ME! Haven by Katherine Bogle

HAVENby Katherine Bogle Genre: YA Fantasy
Princess Haven was never meant to be Queen.

Her immortality has saved her time and time again, but when the last of her royal family dies at her feet, she is next in line to rule a nation on the brink of war. With no formal training on how to be Queen, Haven must rise to the occasion with the help of her best friends, and personal guard, or risk losing everyone she has ever loved.

With war to the West, and no escape to the East, the evil tyrant Kadia sets her sights on the six kingdoms. Haven's neighbors are quick to fall under the swords of Kadia's shadow soldiers, leaving a sea of bodies and a clear path to Haven's only home. Haven must make a choice; take her people and flee to the foreign Republic across the sea or lead a last stand against a powerful dictator.

“You will be perfect. You will be great. You will be a just Queen.” Haven paced the length of the hall, trying to calm her rattled nerves. “You will lead them fairly. You will save them. By the grace of the gods, you will.”

The distant boom of drums startled her. She stopped abruptly, her gaze lingering on the large oak doors leading to the throne room.

“All rise,” a muffled voice said behind closed doors.

The time had come.

Clearing her throat, Haven smoothed her regal skirts and stepped up to the ornately carved entry. Warm afternoon light spilled across the floor, bathing her dark red dress in fire. Sparkles from her jewel-covered throat cast a dazzling pattern across her olive skin.

Haven never thought she’d live long enough to take the throne. In a family of two older brothers, and a healthy father, it would never be expected that the eldest daughter would ascend. But it was her misfortune to be blessed with longevity. Haven had outlived much of her family, and as the idea of becoming Queen grew nearer, that blessing had only become a curse.

✯✯✯✯A new fantasy debut that promises an intriguing seriesBy FaithAn epic fantasy led by a powerful female protagonist, Haven's narrative unfolds in a world where magic is rare and war is brewing. A newly crowned queen & gifted with immortality, Haven is granted ultimate power in her kingdom in the wake of her family's murder. Thrown into the role of Queen, she must rely on her friends, advisors and fellow kings to survive the coming storm and grow confident in her ruling ability. It is a well-written novel, full of conflict and layered with unexpected themes. At the core is Haven, a protagonist and heroine who is compassionate and insecure. She is a relatable human being whose concern for her subjects' well-being also makes her rather endearing. Her major arc deals with her conflict with Kadia, a woman who has a perverse fascination with her powers. This leads to rather dark and disturbing turn of events. The events that Haven is forced to contend with are life-altering and character building. Where many authors might fumble with the repercussions of them, Katherine deals with the fallout deftly, elevating the strength of the story in thematic terms. The secondary characters have interesting stories of their own, and while most aren't as fully developed as I wish they would be, the primary male supporters are given enough depth and room to grow. The setting descriptions and world-building are intricate, bringing Warshard to life. There is a lot of foundation laid for future installments, promising new lands and characters that will delight as well as the first. The conclusion of the novel was a little jarring and wrapped up too quickly, but it does not take away from the general enjoyment of the narrative. I look forward to the next one!Fans of epic fantasy will be drawn into Haven's story, discovering in her a strong female protagonist. Looking for a new world to get lost in, look no further.

✯✯✯✯✯Some things are worth fighting for ~ Haven must decide what it isBy Meagan @ Blooming with BooksWar has come to the Six Kingdoms of Warshard and the Kingdom of Rythern is the latest victim of Queen Kadia's insanity. With the murder of her parents and her brothers Haven Fyre is now queen of Rythern, a role she was never suppose to hold. But her people need a queen, and in Haven they will have one that cannot be killed.Going to war against Kadia seems suicide with the kingdoms various armies having suffered losses to her shadow soldiers. With this seeming impossibility the Royals are faced with an impossible decision - fight, flee, or do nothing.Does Haven commit her remaining soldiers to aid King Corrin in his plan to retake his fallen capital? Or are her troops needed first and foremost in defense of Rythern? Or does she offer Rythern as a place of sanctuary for those who are fleeing Kadia's aggression?Relying on the advise of her closest friends and her desire to protect her people, Haven makes a decision that will forever change her life and the future of the Six Kingdoms.Haven is a book that takes the reader on a journey - a journey of emotion, of loss, of friendship, of betrayal, and of promise. And this is a journey of growth as Haven becomes the queen she never expected to be by facing her fears and learning to live life. This is the first (per the title) in a series and I for one am looking forward to additional books in this series. Though the book is complete in the story it is telling there is most definitely plenty of material from which more could come. The writing style of Katherine Bogle is steady and flowing. There are periods of endless action mixed with those of waiting which is true to what one would experience in one's own life if one were in a similar situation. This book is definitely aimed at older teens and adults due to the subject matter of a few scenes - this book after all deals with war and the violence that comes with such a state of affairs. Overall I highly recommend this book and this author's work.

LOOK at ME! The Heritage Series by Layne Macadam

HERITAGE SERIESBOOKS 1 & 2by Layne MacadamGenre: Paranormal Romantic Erotica
Wolf Shifter, Caleb Grayson’s opinion of humans is lower than a rattlesnake’s belly, that is, until Lara Walker comes into his life. But can the pretty veterinarian, with her marmalade curls and flashing green eyes, be trusted with his secret?

As alpha of his pack he is duty bound to keep them safe and, with genocidal hunters closing in on them, that means maintaining anonymity. So will sharing his secret strengthen Lara’s and his relationship? Or will it send her running in horror and announcing his heritage to the world?

When the decision to reveal all is snatched out of his hands the revelation, not only turns her world inside out, but it has far-reaching repercussions neither could have imagined.

Caleb Grayson’s fur spiked and his tail swished with anger as without a thought or a care, Nora bounded off down the street, leapt over the suburban fence and was lost from sight. His orders to the pack had been clear. Bare minimum—travel in pairs. Stay together at all times. Watch each other’s back. The lure of fresh rabbit must have overridden duty and common sense.

The growl he released was feral as he took off after her. The rules were put in place to keep his pack safe. Hunters were on the warpath and they were after wolf shifters with deadly intent. He’d already lost one member to their violence and would not lose another. Humans, he made a derisive sound. They were uncaring and self-centered. He’d yet to meet one he liked. He pulled his muzzle into a sneer and bared his teeth at the thought of that race.

One giant leap had him over the fence and landing smoothly on all fours on the other side. Nora was farther up the yard edging closer to her goal, but she was not alone.

Frozen to the spot he couldn’t move had his life depended on it. It was as if he’d stepped into a trough of rapid dry cement and was stuck fast. His heartbeat had ramped up and his tail twitched at the sight of the divine human before him. Awestruck, he snarled at the smaller gray wolf beside him. They’d talk about her transgression later. Nora was an adolescent and still in the playful stage of wanting to hunt live prey. Fresh meat was tempting but no excuse for defying his orders. She pawed the ground waiting for him to speak telepathically, but he was speechless. The female human had him dumbstruck and transfixed.

She was a good head shorter than he, athletically built with dips and curves in all the right places, and her spiral curls were the color of marmalade and looked every bit as rich and glossy in the lunar light.

It came to him in a flash then, this human with her emerald eyes sparkling like gemstones was his mate. He’d waited centuries to find her, had given up hope, and now, like a bolt from the blue there she was. Not even Lycan, but human. It was cruel, preposterous, but true. He had little tolerance for the species, but he ached to carry her home, cherish her, breed with her, howl with elation, but he quashed the instinct as his homosapien side surged to the fore—tread carefully, do not rush this—she may not understand.

“Caleb, what is it?” Nora’s telepathic voice quivered with unease.

He didn’t answer, couldn’t answer, so consumed was he with the human before him. Her shape was visible through the silk of her gown. The night breeze had molded the thin white material to her womanly form. She was a vision. He was grateful it was a she-wolf beside him and not a male from his pack.

As he continued to stare, mouth agape and tongue lolling, the breeze picked up and she shivered. Her nipples punched out against the flimsy fabric. He whimpered. His heart pounded faster now as if he’d run for miles at top speed over the rugged terrain around his Black Mountain home.

“Caleb what’s wrong, can’t you hear me?” Nora’s voice was high-pitched now and sharper than normal.

Before he could speak the woman took a small tentative step toward Nora’s midnight snack. She reacted on natural impulse. Her fur stood on end, a menacing growl emanated from lips drawn back in a savage snarl baring sharp teeth. Crouched low and ready to spring, it was enough to have him recover his voice.

“Stay. The human is my mate. Threaten her and you threaten me.” As he sent the telepathic message, Nora dropped to her haunches, and with a whimper assumed a submissive position—she would not dare challenge him.

The command was issued with his sight still glued to his female. The stiffening breeze had whipped the ginger ringlets around her face giving a halo effect, but when her eyes widened and she trembled, it pierced his heart like a blade. He hated seeing her frightened, smelling her fear, but at this point there was little he could do.

Jonah Lawson is a wolf with secrets. Fate has dealt him a shabby hand, so, long ago, he decided to lead a solitary life, never to inflict his tortured past on any female. He takes his pleasures outside the pack with human women, and that works just fine and dandy until the exquisite Camille Robineau arrives at the compound claiming relative status to his alpha, and he knows then and there, he’s in serious trouble.

With his protective armor slipping, he treats her with sardonic indifference, but when the headstrong, reckless Camille goes missing, he realizes she’s taken his heart along with her. His wolf senses ignite and he leads a search party to find her that ends with dire consequences no one could have foreseen and leaves Camille making a sacrifice that will impact the rest of her life.

The house, when it came into view, was not what Caleb had been expecting. Then again, he wasn’t sure what he’d been expecting, his head was so in a muddle, but a ramshackle dwelling in the wilderness was not it. The log cabin was from another era and had seen better days, but it
was clean and well kept. There was a settee and two rockers on the porch out front, and two steps leading up to an open front door.

“Looks like someone’s home.” He drew in a big breath and let it out slow as he parked the car alongside an old-model Ford at the end of the drive. He got out and scanned the place with interest as he walked around to open Lara’s door. A banged-up CTG 750 was under a lean-to a few yards in front of the Ford, and beyond that a makeshift clothesline, complete with sheets flapping in the breeze, was strung between two trees.

Lara got out and stood beside him just as an attractive slender woman, balancing a basket of laundry on her hip, came out the door and trotted down the steps before noticing she had company.

On spotting them, color drained from her face. The basket hit the ground, spilling the contents onto the dirt in a sodden pile. Her hand covered her mouth.

“Caleb.” The single word puffed over pale lips in a bare whisper as she dropped to the steps, sitting down hard with a thud, her hand fluttering over her heart. “Is it really you?” she mouthed.

Before he could answer, a male who could only be Connor burst through the open door, sleep tousled and wearing jeans clearly pulled on in a hurry, unzipped and sliding off his hips.

He rushed to her side and touched her shoulder. “Mother, I heard you fall. Are you all right? Let me help you.”

Lara made a move forward while Caleb remained glued to the spot, studying the scene as if from another planet. His mother was striking. And at first glance, Connor and he were mirror images, but the more he studied his brother, subtle differences became evident. They were of a similar size, both being big males, but Connor emitted a latent anger simmering beneath the surface. Although both had wolf tattoos, his was just on his bicep, while his twin had a complete sleeve. The most obvious and bewildering difference, though, was the absence of a white streak in Connor’s raven hair.

Perhaps he’d misunderstood Rose. He rubbed the back of his neck in contemplation while he viewed the whole picture. Lara bent down and started collecting the soiled laundry, shoving it back into the basket. Up until that point, Connor seemed oblivious of their presence. He spared her a glance now, then flicked a transient look over him before turning away and helping his mother up and onto the settee. That was Caleb’s cue.

With determined strides, he crossed to his mate and clasped her elbow. “Leave that, Lara.” Neck hairs bristling, resentment rising, he drew her upright and supported her up the steps. “I didn’t mean to shock you, M-M Amber-Lee.” ‘Mother’ stuck in his craw. She’d never been a mother to him.

Connor cleared his throat and with languid movements straightened and zipped his jeans, his flowing hair wafting in the breeze that had kicked up a notch. Without a word of acknowledgment or greeting, he slipped a band from his wrist, secured his long hair in a ponytail, then folded his arms and glowered.

“I guess you know who I am?” Caleb schooled his features and adopted an affable stance he was far from feeling.

“Yeah, we know who you are, and if you think we give a shit, then you’re barking up the wrong tree.”

RELEASE TOUR: I'll Be Seeing You by A.P. Hallmark

I'LL BE SEEING YOUby A.P. Hallmark Genre: Contemporary Romance
She thought he was the love of her life, but Joy’s world is broken when she discovers she has been betrayed not only by the man she loves, but her life-long friends as well. Taking the time to heal and mend her heart, with great effort, Joy slowly begins to forgive as well.

Unfortunately, the handsome doctor’s wicked and devious ex-fiancé, Emma Ford, who was the catalyst of the destruction of Joy and Matthew’s relationship, refuses to go away. What Emma doesn’t know is that her scheming and conniving only solidifies the two lovers’ bond.

Dr. Matthew Davis has the knowledge to make Joy Johnson see for the first time in fourteen years, but her refusal to go under the knife again prevents this from happening.

Will Joy allow her Doctor to perform this miracle, or will Emma get to her first?

The first time I walked into the café and saw her sitting there, she was reading in Braille. Her delicate fingers quickly skimmed over the pages; she’s a fast reader. At times, she would come to a humorous part of the story and grin. Once, she laughed. It was a charming giggle and now having heard it, I want to hear it again.

So, what started out as a daily need for a double espresso macchiato was soon replaced by my desire to see her. Sitting across the room, pretending to read a newspaper, or file notes when I have them, I watch her. She recognizes her guide dog periodically, or stops to feel the rays of sun shining on her face that beam through the window. My favorite is when she listens in on someone's conversation.

What really surprised me was my reaction when a longhaired college student-type approached her one morning. Protectively, I tensed up, but her dog immediately became alert and growled at the intruder. It made me chuckle when it scared the guy so bad that he left in a hurry. I got a kick out of the smirk she had on her face as she rewarded her dog with some love.

Today, however, she’s facing the window and looking up toward the sun, smiling. Running my hands through my hair, I force my eyes away from her.

Today's the day, I repeat to myself. Today I’m going to speak to her.

Opening the door, I glance over at her and her head slowly turns in my direction. She also takes a slow, deep inhaling breath.

"Hello, Dr. Davis, the usual?" Myra asks, causing me to jump at the sudden sound of her voice.

"Good morning, Myra. Yes, please, the usual," I reply looking behind me, afraid she’ll leave before I get the nerve to say something to her.

This is it, Davis, time to man up.

LOOK at ME! Superstitious Brides series by Susan Ann Wall #GIVEAWAY

3rd TRIP TO THE ALTAR&THE PERFECT PAIRINGBooks 3 & 4 of the Superstitious Brides seriesby Susan Ann WallGenre: Romantic Comedy
Tristin May has a bad habit of leaving men at the altar, but Brent Daniels isn’t just any man, he’s her first love.

When traveling nurse Tristin May heard the song dedication on the radio, there was only one thing to do: return to Lilac Ridge to see if summer love once again sparked with her long ago flame. The spark explodes, and Tristin spends the summer making new memories, but she is spooked when things go further than she dared dream. She high-tails it to her next nursing assignment, desperate not to leave a man at the altar for a third time.

Dedicating a song to Tristin on a national radio show was a shot in the dark for Brent Daniels, so when she shows up in Lilac Ridge, he’s determined he won’t let her go a second time. Tristin is as wild and carefree as Brent remembers despite the tragedy she endured after graduating college, and she brings out his own, long dormant wild side. Since he’s not looking for just a summer fling, Brent sets out to prove to Tristin he’s a man not only worth taking a chance on, but worth spending the rest of her life with.

But when Brent’s proposal sends his would-be bride running in the wrong direction, it takes the affection of his rescue raccoon Rascal to remind him she’s worth fighting for and to convince her that the third time is a charm.

“I thought maybe you’d be married with a couple kids and a big house with a white picket fence out front,” Brent said.

She laughed because if she’d gone through with her first wedding, she might be stuck in that kind of life, the kind she wasn’t at all interested in. “No husband. No kids. No fence.”

He smiled again, the relief relaxing the tight grip he had on her hands.

A noisy group of women entered the pub. Brent turned, groaning as he turned back to Tristin. “I’m so sorry for what’s about to happen.”

One of the women spotted them and came marching to the table, anger seething from every pore.

“Oh, honey, you must be new in town,” her voice terribly sweet.

“Something like that,” Tristin said.

“Well, I feel compelled to warn you about Bear here,” she said, her voice now rumbling with a growl as if she was channeling her own inner bear.

“Warn me?” Tristin asked, leaning back in the booth.

“He’s nice to look at, there’s no denying that, but he’s emotionally unavailable. It may not seem that way at first, but trust me, trust all of us,” she said waving her hand at the group of women who gawked from the middle of the pub. “He’s pining after this woman who most of us believe doesn’t even exist.”

“Really?” Tristin asked, intrigued. She smiled and winked at Brent before giving her attention back to the woman.

“Yes, really. All of us, who have been stretched through the wringer, we actually started a pool.

“What kind of pool?” Tristin asked through Brent’s groan.

“We call it the Woman Who Doesn’t Exist Pool. It’s a twenty-five dollar buy in and you have to pick a date when you think Bear will finally admit this woman isn’t real.”

“That’s interesting,” Tristin said. “But I’m confused, what makes you think he’s pining after a woman who doesn’t exist?”

“You don’t know about the radio dedication?” the woman gasped.

Tristin smirked at Brent for a second. “Tell me about it.”

“Well, he dedicated this song on national radio, pouring his heart out about how she showed him the best summer of his life and that he’s never found that kind of happiness since.”

“Sounds romantic,” Tristin cooed.

“Oh, honey, don’t let him fool you. It’s pathetic.”

“What’s the pot on the pool?”

“We’re up to $500.”

“And what if I believe the woman does exist?”

“You can buy in on that too, but that’s a fool’s bet. You have to produce proof to win the pot.”

“Sounds fair,” Tristin said and dug into her pocket. Slapping thirty dollars on the table she asked, “Can you make change?”

“Of course.” The women dug into her purse and pulled out an envelope, sliding a five dollar bill from it. She grabbed Tristin’s money and slid it into the envelope. Then she tapped on her phone. “I keep the list here. What’s your name, honey?”

“TM,” Tristin offered.

“TM?” the woman questioned.

“Yeah, that’s what some of my friends call me. It’s the whole Harley thing.”

“I don’t follow,” the woman said.

“It’s not important. What kind of proof are you looking for?”

“It has to be a picture, of one Tristin May here in Lilac Ridge or one with her and Bear.” Tristin had pictures of her and Bear stashed away in her Pandora’s box, but she didn’t want to share those with this bitter woman.

“You know what she looks like?” Tristin asked.

“No, but a few claim to know her. They put in their wagers and said they’d dig up proof, but so far, they’ve come up empty.”

“Really, who thinks she exists?”

“Maddie Carson and Clarissa Dean, for starters. Those two are thick as thieves, watch out for them. They claim to have met her but I think they’re just sticking up for Bear.”

Tristin smiled. She remembered Maddie and Clarissa and was happy they were still here. She couldn’t wait to reconnect with them. “What about Matt Carson? Did he place a wager?” she asked.

“Oh, no, he’s away in the army. Wait, how do you know Matt?”

Tristin shrugged and reached into her purse. “I assume legal ID is valid proof?”

Brent chuckled now and shook his head.

“What? Legal ID? What did you say your name is?”

“TM. Those are my initials,” Tristin said, handing her driver’s license to the queen of bitter.

The queen gasped. “You’re Tristin May?” she said before the shock morphed into anger. “You played me.”

“You were willing to take my twenty-five dollar buy-in. Maybe you need to find some other way to work out your issues with Brent. I’ll take my winnings,” she said, holding out her hand.

“Hold it,” he commanded with more authority than any of the commanding officers she’d served under during four years in the air force. “What are you doing here? We’re closed.”

Courtney stood at attention as if commanded, her shoulders back and her chin up, doing an about face and breathing through her nose so she could speak like a professional instead of the idiot who’d stammered her way through the previous response. “I’m here for a job interview. I’m Courtney Daniels.”

“Job interview? With who?” he asked.

“With Mr. Black, sir, at eleven.”

He shook his head. “With me?”

Great. Way to make a first impression, Court. Kiss this job good-bye.

His brow creased even further. “Son of a bitch. Who called you?”

“Amber,” Courtney said, mentally checking her posture and forcing herself to breathe. “She interviewed me a couple weeks ago. She called Monday and said you requested a second interview.”

“I’m gonna kill her,” he muttered.

Courtney remained at attention, her bare feet rooted to the granite floor. The cold had started to seep into her body, sending a chill across her skin and up her spine.

Or, maybe that was the man. He was fierce, but she still fought the urge to touch him, to soothe the tension and…

No, no awry thoughts about the man who could be her boss. That kind of thinking led to bad decisions that would ultimately get her into trouble.

“Looks like you’ve been rolling in the dirt,” he said, his gaze going down and back up, raising every hair on Courtney’s body. “Is that how you always dress for an interview?”

“No, sir,” she responded, her temper flaring as she remembered the incident in the parking lot. “I was almost rundown in the parking lot by some jack-ass in an old Ford. I got the license plate if you want to speak with whatever employee was driving like a maniac.”

The bark of laughter echoed but Courtney didn’t see the humor. Maybe she shouldn’t have said jack-ass, but sometimes her tongue had a mind of its own. It had gotten her into trouble more than once and not just while in the air force. The back of her father’s hand liked to smack the smart ass right out of her when he’d had too much to drink, which was always.

“I was just on my way to the restroom to clean up before the interview.”

“Interview, right,” he drawled, his posture loosening. “You can forget about the interview.”

“No, wait,” she pleaded. “Just give me a chance. I have a copy of my resume right here.” Courtney reached inside the case holding her iPad, dust flying when she pulled a paper out. “I don’t have extensive experience, but the experience I do have has prepared for me a job like this. I have a lot of energy and ideas. You won’t be disappointed.”

“You misunderstood. You can forget the interview because you’re hired. You start right now.”
