Kruger Park Big 5 Coloring Book

My new book, the Kruger Park Big 5 Coloring book, is part of a new series I'm working on. Yes, while I am still continuing the Vespula series, this is just something fun.
You can find this book on Etsy, at
Kruger Big 5 Coloring book

This new series is aimed at teaching kids, especially city kids, about nature. Check out the other books while you are there.

Please welcome my new book - Invocations

The third book in the Vespula series

Vespula (11 - possibly) is about to discover a dark inner force, one powerful enough to blast stone to bits, yet gentle enough to create soft, glowing light. Her memory might still be elusive, but the amount of trouble she can get into is not one of her shortcomings.

The Church does not like the mysterious girl, and will do anything in its power to get her out of the way, and the Church gets as many chances as it wants. It only has to win once, Vespula has to win every time.

She has everything to fight for - her life, her freedom and her friends.

Follow the link to my books page. But check the dark shadows first, there might be something lurking there.

The Shallow Grave Serenade

What to do, what to do,
When a husband was untrue,
Help his wife to scrimp and save,
Throw him in a shallow grave!

When debts are owed but payments few,
It’s time to call the culling crew,
Teach your debtors to behave,
Entomb one in a shallow grave!

You best be at your best,
Lest you be laid to rest,
Receiving as you gave,
One rather shallow grave!

Is there a witness for your trial?
To speak against you foul and vile,
Teach them not to be so brave,
One bullet and a shallow grave!

Political opponent on a soapbox stand and shout,
On all your better points, loudly casting doubt,
Don’t give him chance to misbehave,
Employ assassins and a shallow grave!

You might be a mother, sweet and in your place,
If a boy smiles at your daughter, forget about your grace,
It is her honour that you save,
Dispense him to a shallow grave!

For those who cause you irritation,
Give them quick obliteration,
This, the panacea that you crave,
Some poison and a shallow grave!

It is life’s simple answer,
Solution at no cost,
A blunt object through the air to wave,
And one more, instant, shallow grave!

You, Reader

A little something I wrote a while ago, to celebrate the fact that I've finished the latest edit of Serenity.

You, Reader

Deep in the night by candles burning,
Darkened plots go twisting, turning,
Characters cruel go lurching, leering,
A victim dies in a moonlit clearing,
Blood sprays thick as a knife goes slashing,
Reflected light on blades go flashing,
Monsters creeping, sniffing, growling,
Under full-moon changing, howling,
Shadows shifting in the night,
You’re trapped in bed, no chance of flight,
You cannot stop, you keep on reading,
Stories into darkness leading . . .

More Monsters

Dedicated to all books dark and scary!

Monsters in the cupboards, monsters under beds,
With every passage read, more monsters in their heads,
Imaginary images, hiding in the dark,
Bloody claws and cleavers, a deadly night to mark!

What was that sound of rustling? Leathery demon wings?
The wind under the eaves, a Harpy evil sings!
Ancient, creaking floorboards, something’s drawing near,
Finds them in their beds, drenched in sweaty fear!

Madness in the pages, lunacy in verse,
Shadows in a dark room, for a death rehearse,
Fluttering and flittering, movement in the night,
Trapped inside their minds, with no escape or flight!

Toll the bells of Doom, dawn is far away,
Draw the covers closer, sleep has gone astray,
All around they’re crawling, creeping in your mind,
The vision’s got you trapped, fear has turned you blind!

Website update

During the December break I had time to give my website a facelift. All the short stories have been edited (again!)
http://leondekock.com/short_stories.html
And remember, the short stories are available for free. (See, you DON'T have to work today.)
Be warned, I've added buttons to the books page to lead the unwary reader straight to Amazon or Smashwords. You have been warned, it's now easier than ever . . .

New project started!

With my latest book, Sniffer, out and published, I have at last been able to start on a new project.
The thing is, my new project is a very ambitious one, and that means I might not bring out another book for a while, but I am sure that the effort will be well rewarded in the end. Currently the planning is to do a six-book series. I am going to take my time with this one, and forget about getting a book published every so often. Instead, my focus is going to be on enjoying the writing as much as I can, and making sure that my readers get something that they will enjoy reading, something they can get lost in for days at a time.
Not, I hasten to add, that in writing my previous books I did not have this in mind, but I want to do something big, something huge.
So, enjoy the books that I have out there, and forgive me if I hide behind the word processor for long hours at a time. There is something brewing, and hopefully it will turn out to be a perfect storm.

Sniffer has gone Live!

I made it, I made my deadline, Sniffer is alive at last. It lives on Amazon Kindle for now, although hardcopies will follow, probably first in the form of CreateSpace.

You can find it here.

Sniffer
In a filthy dirty flat in Johannesburg, a new drug has been invented, a drug so powerful that simply inhaling the fumes will get you addicted. As the addiction to this new Methamphetamine derivative spreads like wildfire, the real fires also starts as society falls apart, and it’s each man to himself to see who can get the last of the drug before it’s all gone.

Enjoy the read.

A bit of upcoming R & R

The beauty of living in South Africa. I am off for a week’s camping in the Kruger National Park, a whole week’s worth of R&R. I am not taking any work with me, no manuscript to finish or to edit. It’s going to be only the girlfriend and me, and the wide open sky.
I am, however, determined to publish Sniffer by the beginning of December, by which time it will be exactly one year late, but hopefully perfect. The final edit has started, but it’s still a long process that takes time and cannot be rushed. Let us hope I reach my own deadline. . .

29 April - upcoming book giveaway

Hi All.
Hordes is going on a one-day free book giveaway on Amazon Kindle on the 29th of April, so keep the date marked and make sure you get a copy of the book.

Hordes
When Ishmael Jacobson creates a virus that stops the aging process in humans and animals alike, chaos could be the only result. Striving towards a dream of eternal life, everybody do what they can to get infected with the virus, even if it means breaking the law. It is up to detective Lindique to try to stop the spread of the virus, but is it too late?
Soon the world is filled with people, and every day more and more are born. The ground turns barren, too tired to keep on giving life to billions upon billions of humans who are trying to scrape another morsel of food out of the dust. When there is no more food to eat, there is always the neighbor…
In the end, there is only one person who can start the aging process in humans again, and it is the person who started the whole problem to begin with, coming full circle.
