Richard Branson

Here is a thought by Richard Branson.

"Don't think what's the cheapest way to do it or what's the fastest way to do it.
Think 'What's the most amazing way to do it'"

Facebook experiment update

Phew, I am finished with the Facebook experiment at last.
It was quite a challenge, selecting a piece of text every morning and posting it to Facebook. I soon learned that I had to number the updates so that readers that fell behind could see in which order they had to read the posts. But it is done, the whole book has been posted and I got some pretty good feedback from my readers and followers. A big thank you to everybody who followed the posts and saw the book through to the end.
At this stage I cannot really say that I have seen a marked increase in sales, so I doubt if I will be doing another one of these again soon. For now, I think it’s back to having free days on Amazon.

Facebook experiment update

I’m about halfway through posting Serenity to Facebook. There were some difficulties along the way, such as that I had to start numbering the posts for people who came in late, and to make sure that everybody read the book in the right sequence.
I’m very happy with how the experiment is going, some of the posts have seen up to 100 views. It always helps when others share the posts, then I get even more views, but I don’t want to badger people to share my posts, as I think it’s rude. They will share it if they liked what they read.

Another edit ended

Phew, my latest manuscript is ready to go to my proof reader at last. What a job to finish it, I'm still hoping to get it out by December.
Better start hounding my cover artist.
Keep your eyes open for Sniffer!

Serenity now live on Facebook

Here is what is happening. Serenity has gone live on Facebook. That's right, I am going to publish the whole thing to Facebook, bit by bit.
Facebook only allows posts of a certain length though, so the bits are not going to be too long. I will try to post a bit every day. If you keep up with my posts, you will be able to read the whole thing.
The first post has already been made, so make sure to follow the facebook page. It's not simply my facebook page as Leon de Kock though, it's the Leon de Kock - Books page. (Although I will try to remember to share the posts to my normal page too).
I am looking forward to your feedback, both here and on Facebook.

Hello Spring!

With spring starting to creep up on us, it’s hard to sit inside working on a book when the weather outside is sunny and warm for a change. Oh, wait, I think it’s time to take the manuscript outside and air it a bit, maybe somewhere in a sunny spot.
It might be just a warm spell before winter returns with a vengeance, I better make the best of it!

The addicted world

Doing research for my upcoming novel led me to do a lot of reading on drugs. Although the Internet has many resources on drugs, I also spoke to a couple of people. Mostly I spoke to parents of children, and I find it scary how few of them actually go through the trouble of warning their children about drugs.
It is as if most parents just think that drug education should be done by the school, and they trust that it is. The problem with that, of course, is that children are curious. If a teacher tells a child not to do something because bad things will happen, that child will more often than not go out and try exactly what he was told not to do. However, children are much more likely to listen to their parents in this regard.
I’m also amazed at the stance that governments take on drugs. Considering the damage that drugs to do people, young and old alike, it’s difficult to believe that more governments don’t take the approach that some countries take – if they catch you with drugs, off with your head.
Anyway, the book is still a few months away, but keep your eyes on this spot for more news.
