Due Diligence, and what’s next!

It’s been almost three weeks since Due Diligence was released. I want to thank everyone who had read the book and everyone who’s reviewed it. As I said on Twitter, this includes readers who didn’t enjoy the book or who DNFed it for whatever reason. I appreciate the time readers take to enter my little worlds and I think all reviews serve to help readers choose the best books.

I have (of course) a lot of love for Fazil and Todd. I’m over the moon that I got a starred review from Library Journa...

Daily Grind Cover!

Daily Grind has a cover! It was unveiled today at Heroes and Heartbreakers, along with several over beautiful covers. Hop on over and take a look.

In the meantime, here’s the cover for Daily Grind!

Daily_Grind

A man discovers that love can show up when you least expect it—and in a much different form—in this piping-hot romance from the author of Due Diligence and Just Business.

Brian Keppler, owner of Ground N’At, the coffee shop beneath SR Anderson Consulting, doesn’t have time for a relationship. His...

Due Diligence: What’s in a Name?

Back when I was a student in the Seton Hill Writing Popular Fiction MFA program, one of my critique partners was bemoaning the state of his name. You see, his name is Todd.

Whenever he saw his name in fiction, the guy was always some preppy, sweater-tied-around-the-shoulder jackass. Or a trust-fund jackass. Or… well, you get the picture. Todd has a bad rap. Todd was the disliked character in 80s comedy movies. Todd was a stuck-up snob. Todd was never sexy.

It’s true. Todd’s not the name you t...

The Heart of a Book

As we get closer to the release of Due Diligence on June 21st, I’ve been thinking about themes in my writing. I don’t set out to have any, but I end up circling back to the same motifs.

What the theme is depends on genre. In fantasy, it’s divided loyalties and being true to yourself. In romance, it’s overcoming the past and discovering your whole self.

There’s quite a bit about overcoming the past in Due Diligence.

In some ways, there’s more overcoming than in Just Business, perhaps because...

Due Diligence on NetGalley

Just a quick note to book bloggers that Due Diligence is up on NetGalley! It’s not open for requests yet, as of this posting, but I’m sure it will be soon. I do know some bloggers have gotten widgets.

I’m guessing it’s the uncorrected proof, which means some typos and formatting errors. Also there’s some places where I flopped names (Todd for Fazil) and one place where I got the timezone difference between Seattle and Pittsburgh backward. (I am so irritated at myself for that one.)

All should...

A little bit of Daily Grind

Now that Due Diligence has been turned in to my editor at InterMix, I’ve been hard at work on the book after that one: Daily Grind. I’m about 13,000 words into the manuscript.

I’ve approved the cover blurb and I’m hoping a preorder page will pop up soon.

In the meantime, here’s a snippet of the first draft! Enjoy!

When the bell rang on the door, Brian downed his shot and prepared for another round slinging drinks.

A guy walked in. Tall. Red hair. Sunglasses. Not a regular customer—he’d have...
