Hello all! I've posted my first book review over at 2 Gliteray Girls. In honor of the upcoming release of Unravel Me, by Tahereh Mafi, I've decided to dedicate my first two posts to Shatter Me and Destroy Me.
My review of Shatter Me is up today, and Destroy Me will be posted on Thursday!

Next Big Thing Blog Hop
Hi, all! I was asked to participate in The Next Big Thing Blog Hop by Jamie Lee Scott, co-founder of Script Chat, author of the Gotcha Detective Agency Mysteries series and Let Us Prey, and screenwriter of the short film No One Knows. Check her out!
Thanks for tagging me, Jamie. Here's my interview!
What is the working title of your book?
Sovereign
Where did the idea come from for the book?
I believe it came on the tail end of a Dystopia-obsessed reading stretch. I didn't exactly come up with a premise, I just had a scene play out in my head, and I typed it up. It was later that I decided to develop it into a novel after first trying to play it off as a short story.
What genre does your book fall under?
Young Adult Dystopia/Sci-Fi
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I can't say who should play the roles, but I can say who the characters look most like in my head. I have a Pinterest board here: character visuals.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
In a tyrant’s shadow, one girl will rise to defend Earth’s last colony.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Sovereign is out now! (And it's self-published)
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Eh, I'm not really sure because I took a break in the middle, then won an award based on the first 20-something pages, so I hauled butt to finish a draft just in case anyone asked to see it. I know I finished the second half in less than a month.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Eh, tough to say. Do I say "eh" a lot? I don't know what Sovereign is "like," but I can tell you some books in the same genre that I love:
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Divergent by Veronica Roth
Legend by Marie Lu
The Hunger Games (obviously).
Did I mention Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi??? Honestly, hopefully, my book isn't much like any of them. What fun would that be?
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
Hmm. I never had that moment where I thought "I want to write a book about such and such." I just had this character in this particular situation and wrote the story around her because I loved spending time with her, telling her story. The theme kind of blossomed in the process and that theme became my "inspiration" in refining and editing.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Let's see... I wrote some very lovely boys. Also, the heroine, Cori, is a kick-butt female. She's tough, she's complicated, and she's entertaining. I think the opening scene will grab the reader and make them want to follow her story.

For any wondering readers, the second book in the Sovereign series it's coming along! I had to take a small break while I was figuring out all the publishing (and things that go into it afterward**) the first book, but I'm back in the saddle again!
In the meantime, I'm behind on my DVR recordings of The Voice. Hopefully I'll catch up tonight, then I will force myself to FOCUS. Wish me happy thoughts and good writing!
