Sovereign FREE on Kindle - Becomes #1 Free YA Dystopian

A couple days ago, Sovereign went on sale for free on Kindle. I expected to get some downloads, but what I did not expect was how many. Within about seven hours of being free, Sovereign had landed on two Top 100 Free lists, at #3 and #4 by the time I noticed. Then, late that evening, it went up to #1 on both lists, and has stayed there for the last two days. It even peeked at #155 sitewide for free books on Amazon.
Picture Picture How cool is that? I could not be more excited. Thanks so much for all the downloads, I hope you enjoy Sovereign! If you haven't gotten it yet, there's still time. It'll remain free through the weekend!

In other news, book two is getting VERY close to completion (first draft), and you can look for the cover reveal in a few weeks! Stay tuned, and don't forget to subscribe to my newsletter for updates.

I'm so grateful for all the love and support Sovereign is getting. I'm one happy writer. Thank you, thank you.

Writers: Vomit on the page VS. Edit as you go ??

Being productive is difficult these days, and there are often times when I am only able to write a line or two--a paragraph if I'm lucky--before  something (or someone... like the baby for example... actually it's almost always the baby...) distracts or interrupts me. When I was writing my first novel, Sovereign, I did a LOT of editing as I went along. I would often read back  over what I had so far, or maybe just back up a little from where I was about to pick up writing just to get back in the feel for it and to refresh my memory. At the time, I couldn't resist the urge to make corrections (gracias a la OCD).

Now, I just don't have the time for that. So, I backtrack just enough to get my bearings, try my best not to screw up the story, and hope for the best. I'll catch the mistakes in edit rounds.

Any writers struggle with this dilemma? Do you edit now or edit later? Do you have to force yourself not to address corrections as you go?

It ain't easy kids! (For me at least)

Happy writing! (And if you're not a writer, happy reading!)

Ode To Progress

Last week I posted an article on Gliterary Girl about my productivity. Since making the decision to cut back my Facebook usage and reading internet articles, I'm already seeing results with my productivity. It's tricky with my little almost 4 month old, but I've found time to squeeze in writing.

Yesterday, I was discussing my characters/plot with a close friend, and I realized there was something I was going to have to do with the story that brought me to tears! And I just knew, that's what I have to do. So I had a little cry, dried my eyes, and got back to writing.

I am so excited to share this story with you all! There was a time when I wasn't sure there was any story left, but these characters have more to say. And they get to say it... in book two!

Stay tuned for some news next week! :)

Sovereign hits the Amazon Top 100 in its category

Last night I stumbled onto the Amazon page for my novel Sovereign. Scrolling down, something caught my eye... a ranking that wasn't there last time I'd perused...
Picture As you can imagine, I was delighted, but wasn't sure what exactly this list I was #91 on even was, so I checked it out. Lo and behold, ALL MY FAVORITE AUTHORS were also on this list. Veronica Roth, Tahereh Mafi, and Marie Lu, all there, albeit much higher on the list, of course. :) In fact, Veronica Roth holds the top four places... which is cute... "Four," get it? (You have to be a Divergent fan to get it...)

Here are some screenshots because I'm a nerd like that ;) Picture Picture Picture This morning I checked again to make sure I hadn't dreamt it... and I had moved up to #83! But this list is updated hourly, so it changes a lot and has since fluctuated back down the list. This could seriously become a new obsession if not kept in check. Picture SO--- I said all that to say this... THANK YOU!!

Seriously, thank you SO MUCH to my friends, family, and readers for all of your support. Thank you for reading and loving Sovereign. Thank you for sharing it with your friends. I am truly delighted that my little story is living and breathing out there in the real world.

I'm not one to overplay something that's not really that big a deal, but this is very exciting for me! While I'm an Indie, and a newbie to boot, I'm beyond thrilled to see any degree of success with my debut novel, Sovereign.

Friends, please keep sharing my novel with your friends. YOU are the mouthpiece for Sovereign's success.

A million thank yous. That is all.

P.s. I PROMISE a sequel is coming.... soon...
