Giveaway

I'm doing a quick, two-week giveaway for two signed copies of Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter (U.S. only, as I'm not independently wealthy). If you know anyone who reads poetry, or has an interest in the gnostic/non-canonical gospels, early Christianity (from a decidedly non-orthodox perspective), spirituality, etc., please share this. Giveaways are tricky things; too often the books go to people who are merely collecting free stuff, and I'd love to see the books go to people who actually have an interest in reading them. Thanks.

Write a Review for Atticus Review

Reviewers of poetry collections: my book, Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter, is on the list of books available for review at the literary journal Atticus Review (where my poem about Kurt Cobain was published a while back). If you're interested in reviewing it, please contact Sam Slaughter there (his contact information is on the page; my book is the last on the list of poetry books).

It's a wonderful journal, by the way.

Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter Print Sale Ending

The price of the print edition of my poetry collection, Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter, will be going back to its usual price of $8.00 within the next day or so (it takes Amazon that long to put through a price change). At the moment it's $4.60, which is no doubt as low as it will ever be (I'd reduced the price as much as I was allowed to, and then Amazon took it a dollar further).

Here the link to the book's Goodreads page, if you'd like to read some of the blurbs and reviews to date:

My Poem Up at MadHat Lit

My poem "Blackouts (Dog Days, 2014)", which I wrote in August as all hell broke loose in Gaza, Ferguson, and elsewhere, went up today in the new issue of MadHat Lit. They've also redesigned the site, and it all looks gorgeous. Have a look:

PRINT Edition of Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter on Sale

I apologize for all the promotional blog posts, but I did want to let people know that I've reduced the price of the print edition of Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter to $5.50 from its usual price of $8.00. It's a much prettier thing than the Kindle edition!

The "sale" will be in effect for the next few days, until I happen to remember to send the required notarized note from God to Amazon to change the price again. :) (OK--it's not that bad; it just takes a few days for it to go into effect.)

Ebook of Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter 99 Cents Now

The ebook/Kindle version of Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter will be 99 cents for the next few days (the print edition, which is, of course, nicer, is $8.00). This is the updated description I've written for it:

"The poems in Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter describe a vision of the relationship between Jesus and Maryam of Magdala (a relationship which the author believes was intimate), and the lives of those around them at that time and in that place. Although they are, to some extent, based on New Testament and Gnostic texts, they are not meant to be read as 'Christian' poems; they are, instead, poems about life and love and the possibilities of the spirit.

Some of the poems in the book have been published in the literary journals Kentucky Review, Cafe Aphra, Menacing Hedge, and Construction. Nancy Bevilaqua's poems have also appeared in or are forthcoming from Tupelo Quarterly, Atticus Review, Apogee Journal, Iodine Poetry Journal, Houseboat, The Otter, Hubbub, and other literary journals."

My New Poetry Collection (Ebook) is Free Right Now

Long time, no blog. :) I've been working on getting my new book, Gospel of the Throwaway Daughter, ready for publication, among other things.

It is now available, and today (12/23/2014) through 12/27 the ebook/Kindle edition is free. (It's also available in print for $7.20.) You'll find a description of the book, and what some other poets have said about it, on the Amazon page.

Enjoy, and happy holidays to everyone!

"Useless Sonnet for Gaza"--The Final 30/30 Poem

I did it. Thirty poems in thirty days. I have to say that I'm kind of proud of myself; to be honest, I wasn't absolutely I'd be able to do it. Now I'll have some leisure to go back and see what it is that I've actually written over the last month...

Here's my final poem for the project:

TUPELO PRESS 30/30—Day 30
Nancy Bevilaqua

Useless Sonnet for Gaza

Rest in pools at brink of Sunday. It’s out
of frame, the network of indignities:
curbs where frightened mothers sit, blinded city’s
quail, scattered children quiet, open-mouthed.
(They ate the wrong religion.) Room for doubt:
scenes can be erased (news about the mercies)
in open season. (See--they don’t want peace.)
Prayer broken by the better beast. Allowed.
Weight of all the shoes they left outside. Weight
of skin returned to dust a thousand times.
Weight of metal, wire. Weight of broken stone.
Weight of indifference: it is too late.

Hot here. Quiet. I offer you these lines.
(Hard to hear them when the flesh betrays the bone.)
