Hola a todos:

Como acostumbro los viernes os traigo a  una autora invitada. Joselin López Escobar es miembro de uno de los grupos de autores que frecuento y la verdad es que aunque me envió su información hace un tiempo, Facebook me la escondió y no la descubrí hasta hace poco. Pero nunca es tarde si la dicha es buena, así que os traigo sin más demora a Joselyn López Escobar!

Biografía:

Mi nombre es Joselin López Escobar. Soy una joven venezolana con nacionalidad española, radicada desde hace una década es las islas afortunada. Mi familia conoce qué es salir de su país para buscar un mejor futuro, mi abuelo fue el primero que lo hizo, por motivos políticos, luego fue una tía y por último mi persona. Estudié en mi tierra natal, Ingeniería de Petróleo y administración y dirección. Felizmente casada. A lo largo de mi vida, he tenido la oportunidad de conocer a personas de diferentes lugares, maneras de pensar y religión. Así como estar cerca, de varios líderes religiosos y políticos. Fui voluntaria de juegos deportivos internacionales, en mi tiempo universitario. Así como estuve involucrada en diferentes actividades de ayuda social. El primer contacto con la escritura fue, recreando pequeñas historias para que mis amigos se entretuvieran, les gustaba y compartían, por motivos personales tuve que dejarlo a un lado y no seguir. Luego lo retomé años después decidiendo recrear una historia donde represente lo que puede suceder y dando un toque de atención a la sociedad que vivimos que ha dejado a un lado muchos valores para vivir en un mundo egoísta y sin importar si perjudica a o no a otros. Como podrán buscar algunos blogueros han reseñado la historia y a la crítica ha sido buena. Sinopsis:

Después de que la tierra sufriera grandes terremotos y desplazarse tres continentes quedando así unidos, los países que trataron de mantenerse en pie, se aliaron. Guest author Amanda Green. Fighting your own battles.

As you know Fridays is guest author day. I met Amanda Green through social media a while back and I’ve read about her writing and her experiences and have been corresponding with her for a while. We have exchanged thoughts on mental health and a variety of other topics and I finally managed to squeeze some time to read her first book ‘My Alien Self‘ recently. I convinced Amanda to come as guest and thought it would be an excellent chance to also share the review of that book. Amanda is also kindly sharing some of her tips on writing.

I am Amanda Green, author of six inspiring, self published books.

Outside of writing and social networking (yes I spend far too long each day on the computer!), I spend a lot of time with my pets; a handsome cat called Titus, a pretty hamster called Molly and tropical fish. I strongly believe in pet or animal therapy as being good for our mind, body and soul and I promote the fostering and adopting of animals as opposed to private breeding and purchase, as there are too many surplus animals desperate for homes. I detest animal cruelty.

I love eating out and reviewing restaurants, travel, days out, campaigning for the precious Orang-utan and the issues of unsustainable palm oil production  and seeing my family. I also enjoy reading, theatre, films, TV and cooking and when I can calm my mind down, just relaxing!

I gained 9 GCSE’s at school and have travelled on/off across the world, taking in twenty five Countries – living and working at times in Japan, Thailand and Australia.  I have enjoyed work in the field of Hotels, banking, property management, recruitment and Office management gaining many skills and qualifications along the way.

I run six personal websites for which I write all copy and articles and provide all photography.  I learn as much as I can fit into my life

I have had my writing and photography work published in various magazines and local newspapers.  I enjoy the challenge of getting published and very much enjoy doing my own PR, learnt through my varied working background.

‘My Alien Self: My Journey Back to Me‘ is my self published memoir of my journey through mental illness to recovery. I want to inspire others that it is possible to recover and have a life worth living.

My aspirations are to continue as a full time writer/photographer.  I intend to be successful in fact/fiction storytelling in the mental health/relationship genres.  I have unique ideas, and a very thick skin.  I attended various writer’s retreats and short writing courses to further my writing, and  learnt a great deal from the editor’s/literary consultant’s who worked with me on my memoir project.  I am 40 years old.

The first two of my books, ‘My Alien Self: My Journey Back To Me‘ and the sequel ‘39‘, are both memoirs, the rest are fiction short stories, a novelette and a novella.

My second memoir ’39′ is about what happened afterwards; the year before reaching the prime age of forty, family relationships, love and memories.

Mental health

I have just finished Counselling skills level 2 at college and am waiting to hear if I will be accepted on the level 4 course. I would love to be able to help others facing issues and adversities, so fingers crossed!

I want to inspire others that it is possible to recover and have a life worth living. Because I grew up with my mother having severe Schizophrenia, who had been incarcerated in psychiatric hospitals for years, and felt the bullying and loneliness that stigma can spread, I campaign to ‘stop the stigma surrounding mental illness. I also felt the wrath of stigma when I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality disorder. Many people do not understand mental illness, so judge people unfairly. So I created www.amandagreenauthor.co.uk where I publish articles on the topics covered in my story, including self help, depression, bankruptcy, Alcohol/drug abuse, family and relationships, sexual, physical and mental abuse, anxiety, anger, Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), self harm, Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), Anorexia Nervosa/Bulimia, mindfulness, panic, rape, Schizophrenia, psychosis, Suicidal thoughts, , paranoia, dissociation, mood disorder, thyroid issues and psychology.

I love photography, writing and looking after my many websites, and have had my work published in magazines. I enjoy the challenge of getting published and very much enjoy doing my own PR, which is why I chose to self publish to kindle in this first instance.

I will be working with mental health charities, magazines, newspapers, social networking and other PR projects, actively making people aware of this disorder through every means possible through the media. But also, I hope that my books will help other sufferers and their families and friends to understand BPD and mental health and how to help oneself to feel better. I want to raise awareness to the general public about mental illness and the stigma sufferers have to deal with.

I hope that Doctors and the medical industry involved with mental health will benefit from reading my stories, as they unfold what it is like to suffer from debilitating mental illness from the inside out and how it manifests itself.

But I have also written my memoirs in a style that I hope will be compelling and sometimes shocking reads for anyone interested in memoirs with a twist, so that I can reach more people.

I really hope to encourage more celebrities to come out about BPD or other mental illnesses.

I am going to continue writing through fact and fiction storytelling, on the genre of Mental Health and life adversities – facing and combating adversity as the main point.

My Alien Self by Amanda Green. Memoirs, mental disorder and finding your path to recovery

I am a psychiatrist and as such I do have a professional (as well as a personal) interest in personal/first-hand accounts of mental illness (or disorder) and not only professional or text-book descriptions. Of course over the years I have heard many patients/clients/service-users (choose whichever you prefer, I won’t enter the heated debates on which is the best term to use) talking about their experiences, but those have been mostly in response to specific questions, rather than their own preferred expressions or commentaries, and mostly at times of crisis.

I have also read a number of more literary versions of mental illness (sometimes recommended by people I was working with, including patients, like Silvia Plath’s ‘The Bell Jar’, others I’ve discovered myself when reading some of my favourite writers: F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘The Crack-Up’ or Virginia Woolf’s ‘Mrs Dalloway’). They are great works by fantastic writers and well-worth a read, even if the subject of mental health is not close to your heart.

What Ms. Green’s book provides is not only an account of a mental disorder sufferer (despite the diagnostic difficulties that as she observes plague the field), but a memoir of her life, her quest for finding her true self and the process of her re-discovery. And her life is far from boring. Travelling far and wide (across the UK, Spain, Japan, Australia, Borneo…), with interests as varied as the creation and management of websites, property development, Orangutan, the entertainment industry…dabbling in drugs and alcohol, complicated family relationships and a difficult love life, Ms. Green’s account is gripping stuff in its own right. And her writing expresses well the ups and downs and the subjective nature of the narration.

Having worked as a psychiatrist in the NHS (National Health Service in the UK, the same one the author seeks help from) I can see things from a professional perspective (and although the system tries hard to avoid the ‘us and them’ dichotomy it’s not easy). I fully understand why she might not have received more intense help before. Mental Health Services struggle to provide support and care for people who cannot cope even on a basic level and who present an immediate and major risk to self (people repeatedly attempting suicide, severe self-harm or severely neglecting themselves) or others (threatening to harm others or doing so) for lengthy periods of time. It is less than an ideal situation; the services are stretched to the limit and mostly dealing with crises, but that is a true reflection of affairs. There is hope that service-user led movements and the voluntary sector will help to fill in the gaps, but prioritising is difficult.

The nature and characteristics of Borderline Personality Disorder with its difficulties in trusting people, impulsivity and inconsistent engagement (well reflected in ‘My Alien Self’) cause problems of its own not easily managed by the psychiatric services as they are currently set.

The author of ‘My Alien Self’ has managed to find herself, to create her own combination of therapies (learned over the years, including mindfulness, CBT, CAT, yoga, medication…) and more importantly she has had the courage to go through her life, collecting and reliving her experiences and having a hard look at her past, the most difficult part of any therapy.

‘My Alien Self’ is a book difficult to read for anybody with mental health issues and also for professionals, but precisely because of that it’s a book that needs to be read. I salute Ms. Green for her guts and congratulate her for her achievements. And I agree with her. It is a battle that has to be fought every day, but I’m sure she’ll win the war.

Una gran escritora y bloguera, Jo Robinson, me invitó a un blog hop (como una cadena) que se llama ‘Conoce a mis personajes’. Yo no suelo participar en estas cosas porque siento que pones a alguien en un compromiso y mucha gente no tiene demasiado tiempo para dedicarle al blog, pero por si acaso os parece una buena idea responder a las preguntas para hablar de vuestros personajes, las comparto y os cuento algo sobre el libro que estoy preparando.

1. ¿Cuál es el nombre de tu personaje? ¿Es él / ella de ficción o un personaje histórico?

Me he decidido a hablar de la novela en la que estoy trabajando ahora (la versión inglesa está acabada y la estoy corriegiendo, así que … ¡deseadme suerte!). El título de momento (que probablemente será definitivo) es ‘I Love Your Cupcakes’ (Me encantan tus cupcakes). Hay dos personajes principales (bueno, tres, aunque dos aparecen un poco más que el tercero), Dulce y Adelfa. Se trata de dos amigas de la infancia y son ficticios. El tercero se llama Sebastián, aunque prefiere que le llamen Storm y es medio-hermano de Adelfa.

2. ¿Cuándo y dónde se desarrolla la historia?

La historia se sitúa en la actual EE.UU., aunque no en una ciudad específica sino en algún lugar de mi imaginación. Espero que exista algún sitio similar y me encantaría visitar e incluso vivir allí.

3. ¿Qué debemos saber sobre él / ella?

Dulce tiene unos treinta años. Su madre era española y se murió cuando Dulce era muy joven. Tenía muchos amigos y era una gran cocinera. Su padre, un ingeniero, se volvió a casar con la madre de su mejor amiga, Adelfa, que es el otro personaje principal en el libro. Adelfa estudió Química, como su madre, y da clases en la universidad.

4. ¿Cuál es el conflicto principal? ¿Qué le complica la vida?

Dulce ha probado a hacer muchas cosas en la vida, pero no ha logrado encontrar su verdadera vocación. Animada por Adelfa decide tratar de montar su propio negocio, y con Adelfa y su medio hermano de Adelfa, Storm, montan una pastelería muy especial. La historia transcurre en dos períodos de tiempo, uno que cubre la creación de la tienda, y el otro, unos años más tarde, cuando el equipo está participando en un concurso de cocina de la tele.

5. ¿Cuál es el objetivo personal del personaje?

Dulce quiere demostrar que se le puede dar bien algo y que tiene talento. Adelfa es muy buena en su trabajo, pero no consigue que sus relaciones amorosas le funcionen. Ella quiere llegar a tener tanto éxito en su vida personal como en su vida profesional.

6. ¿Tienes algún título para esta novela, y podemos leer más sobre ella?

‘I Love Your Cupcakes’ (Me encantan tus cupcakes). En un momento de la novela un personaje masculino, Rock,  le dice a Dulce “Me encantan tus ojos” y ella comenta que eso representa un cambio con respecto a   ‘Me encantan tus pasteles o tus cupcakes “que es lo que le dicen los hombres casi siempre. Suelo actualizar mi página web y todas mis conexiones con las redes, y definitivamente iré publicando  avances en mi blog.

Estoy corrigiendo y editando la versión inglesa. Luego lo traduciré así que probablemente en otoño si no hay contratiempos. Creo que podrías ser un buen regalo de Navidad.

Meet My Characters Blog-Hop. Well, sort of.

As you might or might not have noticed, I stopped participating in blogging awards or blog hops that involved nominating other people as I always preferred to make sure the person would have time to do it or it fitted in with their schedule (I tend to prepare and schedule my posts in advance and I know others do too), and found it very time consuming. When wonderful Jo Robinson author of The Ghost Writer Chronicles, a writer and blogger I admire and follow, who produces great content, finds true jewels (I always look forward to her funny posts early in the week) very generous sharing and reblogging other authors, tagged me onto the Meet My Main Characters blog hop unexpectedly, I found myself in a quandary. On the one hand, I’m aware there were at least a couple of other writer friends who had asked if I would take part (I think it was this blog hop although there is also the writing process one doing the rounds, so I’m not so sure), and I told them I didn’t take part in these things any longer. I also realised most of the authors I know have already taken part in it. I did ask one person who said no. On the other hand I thought I should at least thank Jo…And it might be as good a chance as any other to tell you a bit about the book I’m working on (I’ve completed the draft and I’m editing it. As I’ll also publish it in Spanish there’s some time to go yet). And although I won’t nominate anybody, if somebody who hasn’t taken part yet and reads this post wants to do it, please be my guests!

And without further ado, here are the questions.

1. What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?

I’ve decided to talk about the novel in progress I’m working on now. My working title (that it’s likely to be the final one) is ‘I Love Your Cupcakes’. There are two main characters (well, three, although two appear a bit more than the third one), Dulce and Adelfa. They are two childhood friends and they’re fictional. The third one, Sebastian, who prefers to be called Storm, is half-brother of Adelfa. But that’s a whole story in its own right and you’ll have to read the book to know about it.

2. When and where is the story set?

The story is set in modern day US, although the place is somewhere in my imagination. I hope a similar place exists and I’d love to visit and even live there.

3. What should we know about him/her?

Dulce is in her early thirties. Her mother was Spanish and she lost her when she was quite young. She had many friends and was a great cook. Her father, an engineer, married the mother of her best friend, Adelfa, who is the other main character in the book. Adelfa studied Chemistry, like her mother, and she teaches at university. Storm is an artist.

4. What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

Dulce has tried many things in life but hasn’t managed to find her true calling. Encouraged by Adelfa she decides to try and go into business, and with Adelfa and Adelfa’s half-brother, Storm they set up a pretty special cake shop. The story takes place in two periods of time, one covering the setting up of the shop, and one, a few years later, when the team have been entered into a TV baking competition.

5. What is the personal goal of the character?

Dulce wants to prove that she can be good at something and has a talent. Adelfa is very good at her job but doesn’t seem to manage to make any of her relationships last. She wants to become as successful in her personal life as she is in her professional life.

6. Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?

I Love Your Cupcakes. At some point in the novel a character tells Dulce ‘I love your eyes’ and she observes that it makes a change from ‘I love your cakes or your cupcakes’ that is what she hears most of the time. I tend to update my website and my social media sites with news, and I’ll definitely be posting in my blog with updates.

7. When can we expect the book to be published?

I’m in the process of correcting and editing it. I always publish my books both in Spanish and English so there’s the process of translation yet to come but I hope sometime in the Autumn…I think it would make a nice Christmas present.

When talking about the possibility of an interview with Olga Núñez Miret I was aware that she was a terrific writer and communicator via her blog and also had a very interesting background. In actual fact I discovered several more layers to this unassuming and talented writer and today I would like to explore some of those in more detail. Olga was born in Barcelona and moved to the UK to study in the 1990′s. She is a doctor and also a Forensic Psychiatrist until recently when she gave this up to pursue her dream of writing full time. Today is Friday and I bring  you a new novel by an author who, although is a member of one of the groups I belong to and we have known each other for a while has not frequented my blog. When I read that she was publishing a new book I thought this was my chance to bring her here, especially as her new novel is called ‘The Good Life‘ and we can all do with some of that, right?

The V-Day Aversion

It’s two days from Valentine’s Day, and Dominic is a man with a plan. Katelyn is a woman with her own plan: avoid whatever Dominic’s got planned. When Katelyn’s sister Kandace asks Kate to help catch her estranged husband cheating, Kate jumps at the opportunity because she hates Valentine’s Day. Poor Dom just wants Kate to stand still long enough to give her a Valentine’s Day to remember. Can he offer her something to change her mind?

 

 

 

The Good Life excerpt:

“I can’t stay with you!”

“Why not? It’s not like we didn’t start the evening in bed together. All joking aside, I’m not in the habit of molesting my girlfriends while they sleep.”

“Kyle! That’s not—Err…” Demi growled, flailing her hands as she paced. “How—I mean why—I just…” she stopped and drew in a large breath. “How did you go from thinking I’m an idiot to deciding to hound me for a relationship?”

“Correction, I have never thought you’re an idiot. I think you are the farthest thing from an idiot. You are an intelligent, successful woman with an incomprehensible hatred of bacon who occasionally pretends to be a flake. Hence the nickname granola-flake. Which is way worse than actually being an idiot.”

She huffed.

“That’s my point though. Underneath all this,” she waved her hands again. “…is still that undercurrent of disapproval from you.”

“So change my mind. You’ve already proved me wrong on one major thing. I’m more open minded than you give me credit for. You seem determined to still see me as a narrow-minded bigot. This is a two-way street, woman,” Kyle growled.

“What was that one thing?” she asked, blinking in consternation.

“Let’s put it this way… I can tell when a woman hasn’t had a lot of sexual experience. Either that or you have shitty ass taste in men who are selfish in bed. But you deliberately cultivate this flower child, free love, come-and-get-it, sex goddess persona.”

Her mouth worked for several seconds. “I have too had a lot of sex!” She cringed and looked side to side, then spoke in a lower tone, “I mean, not a lot…but plenty.” Of course, most of it had been in the same calendar year, but he didn’t need to know that.

“So shitty taste, then,” he shrugged. “Alright, fine. Mystery solved.”

“Uh,” she huffed. “What’s that say about you?”

“Nothing, since I picked you.”

“No, you didn’t.”

“Yes, I did. I am currently the only person in this relationship who’s done any conscious picking.”

“We are not in a relationship!”

“Says who?”

“You are a maddening man…” she replied, utterly flabbergasted. “It takes two people to be in a relationship. You can’t just wake up one morning and decide you’re going to be with someone.”

“Sure you can. Technically speaking, it was you who made the first move.”

“No, I didn’t!”

“I guess that’s just how us Andersons roll. When we decide to do something, or change our minds about something and go in a different direction we just…” Kyle skipped his hands together, making a clapping sound, “…do it. Some, like Kate, take forever to get to that decision, but there’s no hesitancy on the course of action once the decision’s been made.”

Demi narrowed her eyes, mouth slightly parted. “You wouldn’t be saying that if you’d participated in any of the wedding planning with her.”

“That has never been about doubting her decision to marry Dominic and everything about Kate’s bad habit of trying to please everyone even knowing it is simply not possible to please everyone at the same time,” he said, then stood up and grabbed her again, scooping her off her feet.

She gasped and reflexively grabbed his shoulders. He sat back down on the chair and tucked her head with his again.

She sighed with a sudden realization, “You’re just trying to distract me, aren’t you?”

He smiled at her, “Maybe.  A little bit.”

She reached up and gently traced his swollen lip again then laid her head back against his shoulder.

“That’s what boyfriends do,” he continued.

She laughed and smacked his chest, “Are not.”

“She says while sitting on my lap… hours after having exchanged bodily fluids—”

“Stop!” she laughed and smacked him again.

He chuckled and squeezed her.

“Thank you,” she whispered after a moment.

He answered with another kiss to her head. She was willing to admit the ‘solid, dependable type’ did have its benefits.

She sighed and squeezed him back. “You’re a good man, Kyle Anderson.”

“Eh, I’m alright,” Kyle kissed her again. “I just wanted to let you know… I mean, I try to ease my girlfriends into this, but… my family’s sort of insane. Just so you know.”

She laughed so hard she started crying, and that seemed so silly that it made her laugh some more. He rocked her a bit and it wasn’t long before she dozed off again, held tight in his arms.

Family Stories. In recognition. Not all the fighting took place in the battlefields.

As you will remember I have shared with you on several occasions stories of my family (two of my mother’s uncles, Josep and Conrado Miret) and their involvement with the Republican cause in Spain, their exile in France, and their deaths. Recently reading the post of another writer where she followed and shared an initiative to collect family memories of relatives who had fought in the two World Wars (here is the link to Sarah Vernon’s post in First Night Design:  http://firstnightdesign.wordpress.com/2014/06/19/first-night-design-my-letter-to-an-unknown-soldier/) I reflected that my country had not been directly involved in either, but of course, that doesn’t mean many did not play a part.

My cousin Joan Molet is involved not only researching the family history but also trying to preserve the memory of the many men and women who although also fought (for their countries and for others also under attack) due to their lack of direct affiliation, in some cases seem to have been lost to history. Luckily through the effort of organisations and individuals those memories are being treasured and official recognition is finally coming.

Joan attended a meeting at Prayols on the 7th of June as part of the 7oth anniversary of the D-Day and here I leave  you his speech:

Meeting a Prayols June

In the month of February 1939, and with the end of the war in Spain, approximately 500,000 people crossed the border with France in what would be for some a long exile, final for others. Many of the of exiles ended up in concentration camps such as Argelès Saint Cyprien, Bram, Septfonds, Le Vernet, Gurs, Rivesaltes …

The situation of the ‘interns’ was complicated; some eventually returned to Spain, some, the majority, managed to get out of the camps, and were mobilized under military command in Companies of Foreign Workers (Compagnies de Travailleurs Étrangers), which were used for hard work with almost no pay. A significant proportion became involved in the fight against the German Army after they invaded the French territory, and also against the Vichy regime.

After three years of hard struggle against fascism in Spain the Spaniards were very experienced, this allowed them to organize themselves very quickly and some became leaders of resistance groups, such as my uncle Conrado Miret Musté, first head of the groups of the MOI that fought in Paris from August 1941.

The role of those members of the resistance in the areas of France where they acted was crucial; often making the German army lose some fights, making them withdraw from their positions or with their acts of sabotage making the operations of the invading army much more difficult.

In Spain I am a member of the board of Amical Mauthausen and other camps, an organization that has recently become part of the Centre for the Interpretation and Research of the Memory of Republican Spain of Borredon. Since 1962 Amical Mauthausen has been working to ensure that the memory of the Spanish Republicans — many of whom, after their heroic struggle in France were arrested and eventually imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps as was my other uncle Josep Miret Musté, who died in Florisdorff, command Mauthausen, by gunfire from SS Han Buhner, after being wounded in a bombing — is not forgotten.

In conclusion, as a member also of the Amicale des Anciens Gerrilleros Espagnols in France, I want to acknowledge the work of dissemination and maintenance of the memories of combatants by the various entities that are present in this act.

You will also remember that after years of having no official word of Conrado Miret’s whereabouts, it was confirmed that he had died in La Santé prison under torture and the city of Paris had dedicated him a plaque on the wall of the prison. The official commemoration of the plaque was the 13th of June. Joan attended with Madeleine Midon, daughter of Josep Miret. Here I leave you his words and also some pictures.

As a representative  of the family of Conrad Miret Musté, first chief of the MOI FTP in Paris in 1941, I want to thank the City of Paris for placing this plaque to forever immortalize their struggle and that of all the Spanish Republican exiles in the fight to liberate France from Nazi invaders.

Historias de familia. En reconocimiento. No todas la luchas se produjeron en el campo de batalla.

Hola a todos:

Como recordaréis os he hablado en varias ocasiones de dos tíos de mi madre, Josep y Conrado Miret Musté, de su participación en la República Española (y en el gobierno de Cataluña), de su exilio a Francia, su lucha con la resistencia, y su muerte (Josep en un campo de concentración y Conrado en una prisión, la Santé, en París).

Con las conmemoraciones del día D se ha hablado mucho de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, de veteranos, luchas…Pero no todo el mundo llevó uniforme. Mi primo Joan Molet se ha dedicado a investigar la historia familiar y su interés le ha llevado a formar parte de varias asociaciones que se encargan de mantener viva la memoria de esos luchadores que habían permanecido en el anonimato. Con motivo de las celebraciones del Día D, Joan acudió a un acto en Prayols, Francia, y os dejo sus palabras:

Durante el mes de Febrero de 1939, ya acabando la guerra en España, cerca de 500.000 personas  cruzaron la frontera de Francia camino de lo que sería para algunos un largo exilio, definitivo para otros. Una gran parte de los exiliados irá a parar a campos de concentración como Argelès Saint  Cyprien, Bram, Septfonds, Le Vernet, Gurs,  Rivesaltes…

El papel de dichos resistentes en las zonas en que actuaron en Francia fue de vital importancia, logrando en muchos casos que el ejercito alemán fuera derrotado,  tuviera que retirarse de sus posiciones o bien efectuaron actos de sabotaje que dificultaba la operatividad de dicho ejército.   En España soy  vocal de la junta de Amical de Mauthausen  y  otros campos,  entidad que recientemente ha pasado a formar parte del Centro de Interpretación e investigación de la Memoria de la España Republicana en Borredon.

Desde 1962  Amical de Mauthausen viene trabajando para que no se olvide la memoria de los republicanos españoles, muchos de los que,  tras su heroica lucha en Francia fueron detenidos y acabaron prisioneros en campos de concentración nazis como mi otro tío abuelo Josep Miret Musté,  fallecido en Florisdorff, comando de Mauthausen,  por los disparos del SS Han Buhner, tras caer herido en  un bombardeo.

Para finalizar, como miembro que también soy de Amicale des  Anciens Guerrilleros  Espagnols en France,  quiero agradecer el trabajo de difusión y mantenimiento del recuerdo de los combatientes que realizan las distintas  entidades que están presentes en este acto .

Os había comentado hace unos meses que finalmente habíamos obtenido confirmación de que Conrado Miret Musté había fallecido en la prisión de la Santé (torturado) y el gobierno Francés había reconocido que había muerto por Francia, y habían colocado una placa en el muro de lo que había sido la prisión, no solo en su memoria sino en la de tantos que por allí pasaron. El día 13 de Junio tuvo lugar la conmemoración oficial de la placa, y Joan, acompañado de Madeleine Madon (hija de Josep Miret) asistió y dio las gracias. Aquí os dejos unas fotos y lo que dijo.

Excerpt for Upon Your Return

Fara fought the darkness to the coming light. It was so easy to stay in the dark. It was comforting like a warm blanket. But, the light held such possibilities. She knew she must rouse, as if something significant lay there in wakefulness. She stirred and felt a pair of arms holding her. Then she heard a heartbeat beneath a rough fabric, felt a coarse texture of chest hair. It was so secure within that embrace.

When she finally realized it was a man who held her, she gasped and tried to retreat from the cord of muscles. She glanced up to be temporarily blinded by the lamplight to her left.

“Don’t move,” said a soft but deep voice.

He spoke with the assurance of authority, and she could tell he was used to ordering people around. Well, he wouldn’t order her. She lifted her heavy head and whimpered as a stab of agony sliced through her skull. Fara squeezed her eyes shut tight. It was so much easier to be left in the dark for it was as if her head was being cut with so many knives.

“I will have you more comfortable in a moment. Please do not move.”

How could she possibly move with all this pain and that large man rendering her limbs useless?

Suddenly, she felt a light cushion beneath her. The glare from the lantern came into her vision again when she opened her eyes and was then replaced by the outline of a man towering above her. She gasped and crawled away from him, but his hold on her waist hauled her back. Her head hurt so as he studied her face.

“Madame, the pain will be less if you stay still. I promise I did not bring you here to harm you in any way.”

She gradually settled back on the pillows and looked at her keeper. He was an attractive man, if one liked the rough, indignant kind. Dark layers of soft waves covered his head and ended at the nape of his neck. He was large, but slim in the right places…it spoke of years of hard physical labor.

His eyes captivated her as she studied him in such proximity. The shade of his eyes…a charcoal color; they were the most intense and unreadable eyes she’d ever seen. It was an odd, yet strikingly beautiful color for a man.

Oh, you silly girl, she thought. Really…how ridiculous for her to be wooed by only a pair of eyes.  “May I ask you a question?”

“I insist you do, if you are not too unwell.” He gestured to her jaw.

Fara nodded, acknowledging the wound provided by the man named Bernard. She imagined what he referred to must indeed be a hideous sight. She looked around the room. It appeared to be a cabin of sorts. “Monsieur…how did I get here? Are we on a yacht?”

“A ship. My ship, La Voyageur,” he announced firmly with a lifted brow.

She faltered at the damning tone in his voice. It gave the impression that he was accustomed to some ridicule, but she could not fathom the reason for it. “You are a captain?”

“Oui, Madame.”

“Mademoiselle.” She blushed.

“Ah. I knew you were too young to be saddled to one man, but thought it safer to say you were.”

“Monsieur…how long will I be here?”

He pointed to her throbbing jaw. “As soon as that is healed nicely, I will escort you to your home.”

Why, that could be days! Did he really mean to let her go, or was his intention to ask for a ransom? He had rescued her, but what if his motives were for reasons other than valor? “My uncle…he will be concerned for me. I insist you take me home now.” She realized her voice was too soft to sound commanding.

He shook his head. “I will have a message sent to him. What is his name?”

She sighed. “Michel de Bellamont.” She began to protest, “Monsieur, surely you do not intend to keep me here? That would not be right.”

When her vision cleared and she could focus, she saw that she was in a bed, a truly comfortable one. The room was a cabin, filled with books and maritime instruments, a large red chair near the fireplace, and a small chaise close by. A tall man with broad shoulders stood facing the fireplace, holding a glass.

Something had happened. They had found her. With that knowledge, Chloe became aware of her state of dishabille as well as the loose hair that fell past her shoulders. They knew she was a woman. What would they do to her now? A moan of distress escaped her lips as she tried to sit up, failing due to a bout of dizziness. She had wanted to appear composed, but she was more like an invalid.

At the sound, the man turned and stepped towards her with purpose. He set his glass on a nearby table, pulled a chair up to the side of the bed and sat down. “Perhaps it would be better if you lie still for now. You will have pain for a while. Until it goes away, I suggest you try to rest.”

His dark red hair was familiar. And now that he was closer, she saw that his eyes were a unique shade of gray. Once she realized it was the same man from before, she managed a nod. Her tongue felt leaden, thick in her mouth. How could one man render her speechless? Clearing her throat, she found her voice at last. “I feel a little silly lying here though, when there is an inquisition to attend.”

“Oh?” He nodded. “Yes, I suppose there is a lot to answer for. But, rest assured, I am at the moment the only one here that is aware of your presence, though others will know very soon. If you have an escape plan, you’d better hatch it.”

His warning sent a shiver over her. “You foresee a lot of trouble then.”

“In your position, you should expect it.”

“I do. I am prepared.”

“You are?” He smiled a little. “Even though you convinced me you were a sailor at first, I now know to expect anything from you. However, you don’t strike me as the kind of woman who has approached many of these situations.”

Chloe licked her lips before replying, “You don’t really know what I will do in order to survive.”

“I suppose I don’t know much of your character. But, you hid away in the storage room for some reason. Are you running from the law?”

She was suddenly aware that he had an accent. French perhaps? She shook her head. “Not yet. No.”

He nodded. “Are you willing to take it to that level?”

“I would like to avoid that if possible.”

“There must be a story, then, if you are willing to do nearly anything to survive. What will you divulge to me if I am your only hope? What will you do to save yourself?”

Indeed, what could she do? The minor insinuations he was making disturbed her, but did not shock her. She was aware that some men were not entirely honorable, including Lamonte. “First, I would need to know whether I was in any danger in your hands.” She swallowed hard. “And then, if that turned out well, we would see…”

“Mademoiselle, you honor me.” He paused. “I assume you are not married?”

She shook her head in negation and licked her dry lips. “If my honor is at stake, then I would expect some cordiality.”

He cocked his head. “Would a stowaway have honor?”

Chloe’s jaw tightened. “Every man or woman has a right to some dignity in the face of extreme circumstances.”

“Extreme? I would say you’re fairly coddled right now. If I had any less respect for your dignity, you would be in a prison. Or worse.”

He was right. He had been kind to her, thus far. “This is true. I am sorry, sir, if I have offended you in any way. But, to find myself in such a state begs many questions…questions others might have.”

“Such as?”

“What liberties have you already taken?”

His eyes narrowed. “None other than a physician would do in the same situation.”

Her lips firmed. “Am I to assume that your actions were only for the sake of medicine, that what you did was platonic?”

The man frowned. “I never took any liberties that weren’t necessary. You were unconscious. I had to act. Will you apologize for jumping to such conclusions?”

Chloe shook her head. “Surely you cannot fault me for thinking it.”

“No, I suppose I cannot. But, I assure you, you have my character entirely wrong.”

She burrowed deeper under the covers. “Then I’m very sorry for assuming the worst.”

He grunted. “You are quite fortunate, you know.”

She frowned. “Am I?”

“Were I any other man, some aspersions might be cast on your character. You were dressed as a boy, nearly passed as one. But, you are not. Some men might think you are a lady of the night, here to rob us.”

Her eyes widened. “I assure you I am not!”

“Then only a lady?”

Chloe didn’t answer. The less the man knew, the better. But, she did not want him to think she was free with her favors either.
