Music Monday: My Type by Saint Motel

One of my personal mottoes is “you can’t go wrong with a horn section.” Two things: 1) Mottoes is the correct plural of motto and 2) I’ve decided to have mottoes and you’re going to start hearing about them on my blog. This is a song with very few and very simplistic lyrics, but it’s fun. It’s got a horn section, well, it’s got a horn and that’s close enough for me.

Have a great Monday! ~Phil

Extortion at the Corner of Happy and Healthy?

a860a864e8797d799c59fd2550c1f183

You know the Walgreens commercials with the voice of John Corbett, the D.J. from Northern Exposure? He’s always saying that “Walgreen’s is at the corner of happy and healthy.” I’d like them to update the commercial to say, “Walgreen’s is at the corner of happy, healthy, and blackmail.”

You often hear the line in movies, “Blackmail is an ugly word.” Yesterday it got ugly for me right in front of a Walgreens and Josh Corbett was not there to talk me down with his soothing voice. I’m still heal...

Friday Poll! Would You Rather Have Love or Money?

Last week when I posted a poll about making changes to #ThePhilFactor I decided that instead of taking away anything I was doing that I would add a regular Friday poll on a humorous topic. Please vote for your answer on the poll and give your explanation in the comments.

Throwback Thursday! Lap Dances, Justin Bieber, and the Talking Heads

(05/24/14) This is one of those days when I woke up with no fully formed idea of what I was going to write about. Here are some of the ideas that were playing bumper cars in my brain:

1.Bryant McKinnie, a professional American football player, settled a lawsuit with a strip club in Miami for $150,000. What were they suing him for? Was it damage from a fight he was involved in at the club? No. Was it a bar tab he tried to skip out on? No again. He was sued for lap dances he received and did no...

Wordless Wednesday: An Odd Pair

I came across both of these at the same time because they’re on the same building, but separated by a Popeye cartoon mural. I was just driving in the city one day and came across them.

I don’t know the story behind these but I find them to be a very odd pairing. The portrait of the girl is startling good isn’t it?

Have a great Wednesday! ~Phil

Top Ten Tuesday! The Top Ten Lies I Tell Myself

T92qA6u

We all lie to ourselves. Most of the lies we tell ourselves are pretty harmless. To be perfectly honest, I kind of like fooling myself. The truth is just the lie we’ve chosen to believe. Here are the top ten lies I tell myself:

10. I’ll never get old like my parents! Those aren’t gray hairs, I’m just having my tips frosted silver.

9. That extra 5 pounds will be easy to lose!Yeah, if I cut off half an arm and donate a couple organs.

8. I could have been a professional athlete if I wanted to:I...

Music Monday! Naked and Famous

Like I said on Saturday, Naked and Famous is not yet the title of my autobiography, but it is the name of a really good band from Auckland, New Zealand. Here is one of my favorite songs of theirs,Punching in a Dream from their 2010 CD Passive Me, Aggressive You.

If you want to find another great band, the new song The Place That I Call Home by my son’s band Nothing Personal is on Spotify, Jango.com and in iTunes. Have a great Monday! ~Phil

Sleepy Spelling Elephant Anthrax!

There were so many funny odds and ends in the news this week that I couldn’t choose just one to make fun of. So, in case you weren’t paying attention…

No Post on Sundays!Anybody remember that quote? In the comments tell me where it’s from. We in the U.S. better hope there’s no post on Sundays or any other day. A military lab “accidentally” shipped 200 samples of live anthrax this week. Remember when we were kids and Columbia House Records had that deal where you paid a penny and they’d send 1...

Vote on My Poll!

Brace-yourselves-idiots-are-about-to-start-voting

In an effort to keep The Phil Factor interesting I’m always looking to make improvements. Over the last year I’ve added a few regular features, Music Monday, Top Ten Tuesday, and Wordless Wednesday. I think the Top Ten Tuesday has gotten such good reaction that I’ll keep that as a permanent feature, but the other two, I’m not so sure. I’d love your feedback. Please vote below and leave comments on what you like or what you’d like to see.
