10 Favorite Vegan Potluck Dishes & Cookout Foods

From BakeandDestroy.net:

Last year at Vegan Mania I saw in the “Ask an Expert” booth for a bit and had a great time fielding questions about everything from replacing eggs in cake recipes to how to talk to your family about being vegan without starting a fight. One question I got more than once was, “How can I go to my family’s cookouts without 1) starving 2) looking like a jerk who’s too good for my family’s food and 3) being subject to ridicule?”

Everyone’s family is different, of course, and...

BurgerTime Whoopie Pie Recipe

From BakeandDestroy.net:

BurgerTime, for those of you who are too young to be reading this book. is an early 80’s video game featuring Chef Peter Pepper’s quest to assemble giant hamburgers by running over the ingredients while fighting off killer hot dogs, pickles and eggs. It’s one of the stupidest, most fun video games ever made, and I honor it with this really goofy dessert – whoopie pies that look like burgers, and taste like a chocolate-covered fruit salad. (Find more recipes like this i...

Vegan Taco Lasagna Recipe

From BakeandDestroy.net:

This is my absolute favorite recipe from my cookbook. In third grade I used to spend all my Scholastic money on Garfield books. It bummed my mom out, but those books taught me two important life lessons: lasagna is awesome and Mondays suck. I don’t know Garfield’s opinion on taco lasagna, but something tells me the layers of mushrooms, corn and spicy Nacho Chee-Zee Sauce would earn this dish a furry orange thumbs-up.

Vegan Nacho Chee-Zee Sauce Recipe

From BakeandDestroy.net:

Pour it over nachos and baked potatoes, dip your chips in it or bake it into a casserole. This zesty version of myveganChee-Zee Sauce has just enough heat to let you know you’re eating nacho “cheese,” but not enough to blow your taste buds off. Of course, if you’re looking to make your mouth explode, just keep piling on thechipotle peppers and don’t come crying to me when your body rebels against you.

Down Yonder: Memories Gone Vegan

From BakeandDestroy.net:

A few nights ago my friend Leigh Saluzziposted a link to a couple of recipe zines she’d created. Recipe zines are the best – for somewhere around $3 a pop you can get some really great new ideas and often times, a personal story about each recipe that goes beyond the typical “blah blah this is a chocolate cupcake” you get in conventional cookbooks.

So far Leigh has created two volumes – Volume 1: Marlene Southern Food Memories Made Vegan and Down Yonder Volume 2: The Me...

Tony’s Song by Matt Pryor of The Get Up Kids

From BakeandDestroy.net:

Tony SlaterTony, aka my favorite person in the world, has a birthday in just a few days. But what do you get the man who hates everything? No, that isn’t accurate. Tony likes a lot of stuff – late 80s and early 90s hardcore, camping, Mini Coopers and Larry David. But in those particular realms of interest, he already owns what he wants (short of a Larry David tattoo, which he currently does want and does not have).

I was poking around Downwrite, this site that connects you with si...

Trust Me Green Smoothie

From BakeandDestroy.net:

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen friends post pictures of their frothy green smoothie only to be met with a barrage of “yuck” comments from a bunch of diaper babies. Listen, I know it looks like swamp water but do you really think we’d all be knocking them back every day if they were repugnant? The trick to a great green smoothie, in my opinion, is to offset the earthy, grassiness of the greens with bright, fresh flavors like citrus, pineapple and ginger.

I’ve...
