Books read a while back
Although I recently joined GoodReads, I've been keeping notes on books I've read since 2001. I'm entering some of them on my book shelf--a new shelf, "read in 2005".
For some reason, I was reading voraciously (for me) in 2005, and writing comments about what I read. Even though these books have older pub dates, many are well worth looking for.
Found Wanting by Joyce Lamb
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This riveting mystery is excellently crafted. I couldn't put it down and read it in a day (372 hardback pages). The very-involved plot centers around Alaina Chancellor, who absconded 14 years previous with her infant son. The millionaire father has hired Mitch Kane to find her. When Kane succeeds, he realizes he's been set up by the dad, but has a hard time getting Alaina to trust him when he realizes her life is in danger. Alaina is a great character, who will do anything to protect her son, now fourteen.

Priorities and Necessities
I spent the morning repairing some fencing that had blown awry in recent wind storms. Luckily the day was mild, no wind, and slightly overcast--good working weather.
I would have rather been inside working on a manuscript--that would be one of my priorities (along with trying to find interesting photo ops), but the necessities have to be dealt with.
I surely wish I had a secretary, "ranch" foreman, personal assistant or spouse to take care of the mundane necessities. I often wonder how other writers/artists manage to create (some abundantly) and still handle "daily" life--some even with public jobs! I guess the best bet is to live in a condo or residence hotel that has concierge service. ;-) But I'd miss hearing the meadowlarks in the mornings.

Good Reads Efficiency
I've had a pleasant weekend with my daughter and her husband. A special treat, since they visited from 1600+ miles away. Even so, I kept up with a few threads in GR forums, and was greatly aided by GR Librarians in getting all my titles listed on my Goodreads Author page. K. Follis Cheatham and Karyn Follis Cheatham were both rolled into Kae Cheatham. Yea!
Several of the titles don't show covers. That's because they are long out of print (OOP). The good news is that most of them will be reprinted and available as e-books by the end of the summer.
Out of Print:
The Adventures of Elizabeth Fortune OOP since 2005; Kindle edition is available NOW; second printing coming in June.
Bring Home the Ghost This American West Historical Fiction has been OOP since 1985. Second edition and e-book version will be available in early autumn, 2010 with a new title: Hammer Come Down: Memoirs of a Freedman.

Saturday update
Long overdue, but, yes, Saturday was a wash out. Change of venue twice because of the weather, and then fifteen minutes after I began the presentation in open air, the rains returned.
Ahhh
It was still an interesting time. I met a lot of people, was interviewed on the radio, and the people who were at the segmented version of the program were genuinely interested.
Another time.

Will Saturday be a Wash Out?
I have a presentation to give tomorrow for the Helena (Montana) History Fair--an outdoor event. Nothing wrong with that; usually when I give this Humanities Montana presentation "Lifestyle of the Northern Plains before 1800", I'm often outdoors in parks or on lawns of various venues. I call this my dog and pony show, because the props I use are miniature dogs and an appropriately-sized horse to show the how the horse (arriving in this area in the 1730s) dramatically improved day-to-day living.
Anyway, I'm scheduled to have my dog-and-pony show on the Helena Walking Mall Performance Square tomorrow from 12 - 1pm, following an Irish dance troupe. What fun!
Except that the temperature is dropping tonight, and tomorrow's high will only be in the mid-40s with scattered showers. Breezy conditions, says the weather forecast, which can mean anything from 10mph to 25mph, with gusts a good 10mph greater.
I hope people show up; and if they do, I hope they won't have to help me chase down my dogs and pony, caught on a swirling gust of Montana May weather.

There's two of me -- well, sorta
I just opened my account here as a Good Reads author; but some of my books won't show up. Why not? (rhetorical question)
When I started writing more than 30 year ago, I used the name K Follis Cheatham. Several of my earlier titles are under that name. Check it out at Amazon or where ever. Then I changed lifestyle and location and began writing as Kae Cheatham (my regular articles from the 90s in the IPRA Pro Rodeo World magazine are listed that way.)
Newer titles and nonfiction all have this preferred name--Kae Cheatham.
I guess there are two of me also 'cuz I write two different major genres: Speculative Fiction, and Historical Westerns. (Am I schizoid, or what?) Actually, I found a nice blend of the two in the SF GEM OF THE GALAXY series, where I created a world and culture; the history background made this pretty easy and I was able to really focus on the characters.
IN PRINT
[image error] from K Follis Cheatham Kansas Dreamer: Fury in Sumner County--it's also available as an audio book from Books in Motion. The cover shown here is from the just-published KINDLE edition--and Spotted Flower and the Ponokomita--Available at my web site.

The other books have KAE CHEATHAM as the author and are listed on my Good Reads page.
Oh, wait! Not quite all of them.
[image error]The Adventures of Elizabeth Fortune, historical fiction, had the K. Follis bit. Published first in 2000, it is out of print (OOP), but now available on Kindle (Kae Cheatham). The second print edition will be released in June.
Another OOP book, Bring Home the Ghost, will have a second printing in September.
I'm sure I've forgotten something, but, hey, that's to my advantage. Something to blog about in the future.
Excerpts and reviews of these titles are at my official Web site.
Cheers!
