Bloodline Release Day

Bloodline

Bloodline is now available for your reading pleasure! But before I get to that, I’d like to say thank you. Without your support, this book–this series–would never have come about. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to continue writing the stories I love. I truly have the best readers in the world.

Also, since I’ve been asked about the audio, I wanted to say Julian will most likely start recording at the end of the month, which probably translates to an early-to-mid December release. :) If you are looking for print, the book is available on Createspace and should be on Amazon by tomorrow.

Between his bullying father and dissolute brother, Percival Endicott Whyborne has quite enough problematic family members to deal with. So when his sister returns to Widdershins asking for help solving the mystery of a derelict ship, Whyborne is reluctant to get involved. Until, that is, a brutal murderer strikes, leaving Whyborne and his lover Griffin no choice but to take the case.

The investigation leads them deep into a conspiracy of blackmail, murder, and darkest sorcery. But worst of all are the secrets held within the family itself, one of which will destroy everything Whyborne believed to be true, not only about his family, but about himself.

New Whyborne & Griffin Short Story Plus an Amazing Anthology

Another Place in Time

The charity anthology Another Place in Time releases today! Filled with historical goodies from the likes of KJ Charles, Tamara Allen, Kaje Harper, Joanna Chambers, and Aleksandr Voinov, this anthology was put together by the wonderful Susan Lee. When the invitation to participate landed in my mailbox, I realized it would be the perfect opportunity to indulge in another Whyborne & Griffin short story. “Carousel” takes place between the events of Stormhaven and Necropolis, and relates how Griffin came to the decision to search for his brothers. Of course, there’s also plenty of magic and excitement!

Other stories include:

“Office Romance” by Tamara Allen

“Introducing Mr. Winterbourne” by Joanna Chambers

“The Ruin of Gabriel Ashleigh” by KJ Charles

“Unfair in Love and War” by Kaje Harper

“Deliverance” by Aleksandr Voinov

Along with a foreword written by Alex Beecroft. All proceeds from the purchase of this anthology will be donated to AllOut.org.

GRL Schedule and Sale!

GRL

Below is my schedule for GRL, but first I wanted to let everyone know I’m having another informal hangout in the bar area on Friday, October 17, from 5:00-6:30 (I figure this will give people plenty of time to change for Casino Royale at 8). :) I’ve created a Facebook event if you’d like to sign up there as a reminder, but if you don’t have FB that’s fine–just let me know in the comments below so I have a vague idea of how many people to expect. Like last year and my room party at Rainbow Con, I’ll have some special swag just for you–and this year it’s going to be epic, so I really hope you can come if you’re attending GRL. You can also pick up your preorders from me during this time (let me know if you’ve preordered and need other arrangements, though!).

Where to find me at GRL:

Thursday, October 16:

12:50-1:30 pm – Author Lounge Event in Trillium III

Friday, October 17:

5:00-6:30 pm – The bar!

Saturday, October 18:

8:30-10:00 am – Unspeakable Love: Gay Romance of the Past, with Charlie Cochet and Kate McMurray

2:00-5:00 pm – Featured Author Booksigning

And of course I’ll be roaming around otherwise, so stop me to say hi any time!

In other news, if you haven’t read Widdershins, it’s temporarily on sale for only $9.00 at Amazon, ARe, Smashwords, and B&N!

Bloodline – Chapter 1 Sneak Peek

Bloodline

I can’t believe it’s only two weeks until Bloodline comes out! For now, how about a quick peek at the first chapter?

And just a reminder, if you’re going to GRL, I’m still taking preorders! I will have some stock on hand to sell at the signing, but I’m limited as to how much I can bring on the plane with me, so a preorder will ensure you get the books you want. :)

Interview With Author Jamie Lake

Please welcome m/m author Jamie Lake to the blog!

Bad BoyFor those who aren’t familiar with the Bad Boy series, tell us about it. It’s the story of a really hot teacher who becomes desperate for money when his hours are cut and the only choice he has is to moonlight as an erotic masseuse for men. The problem is, he has to keep is profession a secret from the school and it’s right when he meets the guy of his dreams, who happens to be not only one of his student’s dads but also a cop.

Did you plan out what was going to happen in each book? How do you decide how many books there will be in the Bad Boy series? Once I decided that Bad Boy was going to be a series, I had a vague idea what would happen in each book but didn’t really plan anything until I was focused on that book. I always have at least a vague idea of the next book and usually because I don’t think all that I want to happen will fit in one book.  At first, Bad Boy was going to be just 3 books long but then it quickly became at least 5 books. I’m about to start on Book 5 in about a couple of weeks so who knows what the characters will want, maybe there will be more if the readers demand it.

You write so fast and so prolifically, how do you manage that? I do write fast and there are a few ways I do that but I still battle procrastination and being distracted by social media. I love talking to my readers on Twitter. I’ve built some great friendships on Twitter.  I never knew it’d be possible on Twitter but it’s true.  As far as how I write so fast: I do a light outline, write a draft (typos and all) then I send it to my co-writer or editor, then I go through it and flesh it out, then it’s off to my copyeditor. Wash, rinse, repeat. While the copyeditor or even the editor is doing their part, I’m already working on the next book. I don’t waste time. I write 5-6 days a week. And every once in awhile, I’ll slack off a week or even two but very rarely because I’m so hard on myself (being a Virgo).

What made you make the decision to write in third person instead of first person? That’s my style generally but for example in one of my series, Stay Always, I wrote in first person. I think it might actually be faster to write in first person and there aren’t that many m/m stories told in that type of voice so I’d be open to doing it again. In the case of Bad Boy, I experimented in my head with first and third and felt that third person would be best.

Are there any m/m author’s careers you’d like to emulate?  I love what River James and Kindle Alexander are doing so something like that would be nice. I love how they write much longer sweeping stories, especially Kindle who seem to write as Nicholas Sparks says are “mini-lifetimes”. Eventually, I’d like to do more of a Nicholas Sparks for m/m readers type of thing but with some steamy scenes thrown in just for fun. That’s probably what I’ll do when I wrap up the current series I’m writing.

Where can we get a copy of Bad Boy? You can get it exclusively on Amazon http://bit.ly/BADBOYNOVEL1 or email me at JamieLakeNovels AT gmail.

Thanks for stopping by, Jamie!

New Whyborne & Griffin Short Story Coming Oct. 1

This seems to be my week for updates! I’m incredibly excited to finally be able to announce my contribution to the anthology Another Place in Time, organized by Susan Lee of Boys in Our Books, who also did the beautiful cover.

Another Place in Time

Look at those names! I’m amazed and honored to be among such stellar company.

My contribution is “Carousel,” which takes place between Stormhaven and Necropolis. Some of you may recall this exchange from Necropolis:

“Have you investigated any interesting cases lately, Griffin?” Mother asked, rescuing the conversation.

Griffin began to relate the details of a kidnapping he’d recently looked into—successfully, I should add, with the abducted tyke returned to his family unharmed.

I knew there was more behind the story when I wrote those lines, and when Susan contacted me about participating in the anthology, I decided to find out what, exactly. Like “Eidolon,” “Carousel” is narrated from Griffin’s POV.

100% of proceeds will go to All Out, an organization whose “mission is to build a world where no person will have to sacrifice family or freedom, safety or dignity, because of who they are or whom they love.” Another Place in Time will be available October 1 in eBook and print!

Click here to add it to your GoodReads TBR shelf!
