Mocker of Ravens Excerpt
I’ve a sneak peek excerpt from Mocker of Ravens for you today! You can read the first part of chapter one here at this handy-dandy link. I loved returning to this world and writing about Caleb, Gray, and John, plus some new characters.
Caleb has spent the last six months adjusting to life possessed by the vampire spirit Gray. Unfortunately, after the events of Fort Sumter, the other agents of SPECTR view him more as a ticking time bomb than a co-worker.
The one bright spot is Caleb and Gray’s boyfriend, federal exorcist John Starkweather. But John has problems of his own. A supernatural killer is on the loose in Charleston, stealing the hearts of its victims to extend its own unnatural life.
With the help of a rookie agent, John, Caleb, and Gray must find the killer before it strikes again…or before they become the demon’s next victims.

Hoarfrost is Now Available
It’s here, it’s here! I’m so excited to share this one with you all!
Sorcerer Percival Endicott Whyborne and his husband Griffin Flaherty have enjoyed an unprecedented stretch of peace and quiet. Unfortunately, the calm is shattered by the arrival of a package from Griffin’s brother Jack, who has uncovered a strange artifact while digging for gold in Alaska. The discovery of a previously unknown civilization could revive the career of their friend Dr. Christine Putnam—or it might kill them all, if the hints of dark sorcery surrounding the find are true.
With Christine and her fiancé Iskander, Whyborne and Griffin must journey to the farthest reaches of the arctic to stop an ancient evil from claiming the life of Griffin’s brother. But in the rough mining camp of Hoarfrost, secrets fly as thickly as the snow, and Whyborne isn’t the only sorcerer drawn by the rumors of magic. And amidst a wilderness of ice and stone, Griffin must either face his greatest fear—or lose everyone he loves.

The Music of Hoarfrost – Day 4
I really think of this as being Griffin’s song more than the rest.

The Music of Hoarfrost – Day 3
I like the heavy, ominous beats of this one. Another song with lyrics referencing darkness.

The Music of Hoarfrost, Plus Arctic Expedition Gear
When Bloodline came out, I got some questions about whether I listen to music while I write, and if so, what do I listen to?
The answer is no, I don’t listen while I write, but I do listen while I plot. In fact, the right mix of music is integral to my process of digging ideas up out of my subconscious. I jump on the treadmill, put on my soundtrack, and get to work. As a result, I’m constantly looking for new music, because once a song is associated with a certain book, that’s it. My muse has sucked all the juice out of it like a vampire and is on the prowl for the next victim.
Over the next six days, I’m going to post the highlights of the music I listened to while working on Hoarfrost. Let me know if you like these sorts of posts, and if I should do them for other books!
One of the things you’ll notice is that a lot of the Hoarfrost songs have lyrics relating to darkness or fire. Sometimes the songs my brain seizes on don’t seem to have anything to do with the book, but in this case a surprising number of them have some sort of obvious connection, at least in part.
First up is the remix of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” from Lorde. And yes, I’m old enough to remember the original. This one is much better.
I also wanted to mention that I’ve uploaded some Arctic Expedition gear to my CafePress Store, which you can take a gander at here.
