My 5 Star Review

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I must say I was really impressed with the quality and content in this manual. It is a quick read that takes only a day or two to read, with practical guidelines for young people and students finding their way in the world. And I love the author's goal, as a young man he's not only speaking what he believes but doing it; making him a good role model in achieving his own dreams. I think it will do us good to remember his name in the future.
It's a step by step guide that touches every part of a personal fulfilled life. A to-the-point, easy-to-read journal that guides you with practical advice, explaining each topic with flair. Subjects like Energy, Health, Relationships, Wealth, Philosophy, Responsibility, Keys of success and mastery, Skills, Habits, 80/20 Principle, Goal setting and many more, are discussed. It's well explained in a short chapter and easy to understand and follow. There were even a few things I've learned while reading the book; things I'll practice in my own life, this is really a practical book for all students of life and a great advantage for younger people that I can recommend.
The lay out is well-defined and color-coded, each subject easy to find when you want to refer back to something specific. The quotes in the beginning of each chapter are relevant, taken from men that have proven themselves over the years. Well researched with practical tips. This book is the beginning of your journey, acquiring the knowledge to be the best you can be and go after your dreams and goals in life. I like what he said at the end:
"As you may have noticed, there were no magic pills, instead there were fundamental principles which, when applied, can have a dramatic effect on the quality of your life. To see results it requires not only action, but consistency as well – I can’t stress that enough, I’ve failed at the wall of consistency before, and it’s not nice."
Every chapter closes with a summary, leaving you with key notes that you can think upon while working or taking a breather from the day. Easy to remember keys that can unlock a world for you.
Well done Nick, this was such an honor to read and review the book. I wish you all the best in life and with the book.

Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.– Paul J. Meyer

Blurb:

Bastian Wycliffe, the Earl of Wendelhem, has finally moved on…or so he thought. En-route to a hunting trip after over-indulging the night before, he endures a frightful and terribly embarrassing swoon. He’s seen a ghost and her name is Cordelia Waite, the Duchess of Downsbury. Mrs. Weylen, formerly a duchess, has a secret. All it took was the chance meeting in the inn that fateful night for her memories to come back and haunt her. She makes haste returning to London incognito with the intent to clear up misconceptions and to deliver an ultimatum to her former lover. Yet, when a new found obsession refuses to accept the truth, and her imprisoned husband discovers she’s still alive, their lives and relationship may be in danger. Second chances have never been more precarious.

Extended Excerpt:

Cordelia noticed that his hair was mussed from the back. Has he been entertaining a woman upstairs? Has he truly moved on and found another lover? Her heart sank at the prospect. How could he replace me so…so…so…soon? It has not even been a full year. Her hands trembled beneath her cape, and she could barely stand on her own. How she wanted to throw her arms around him and tell him how much she missed him. “Thompson! What is so important that it could not wait until morning? Has anything happened?”
“Be easy, man. I assure you, Isabel and Emily are fine. I simply came here to escort a woman who desperately wanted to see you.” He scoffed. “If this has anything to do with Mary Elizabeth, I—”
The marquess nodded, and Cordelia stepped forward into the glowing light of the fireplace. Bastian turned toward her, and when she lifted the hood of the cape, his eyes widened and his mouth gaped before he crashed to the floor from swooning.
“Oof! I have to admit, I did not quite expect that response.” Cordelia abandoned her cape where she stood and ran over to him, dropping to her knees. Good heavens! What have I started? The man probably thought he was staring at a ghost.
“Wake up, my love!” she whispered as the butler walked in. “What happened?”
“He just swooned. I have it under control. If he was entertaining upstairs, can you see to the lady and have her sent home immediately? He will need some rest, and I am certain he will want some privacy.” “Certainly, sir. I shall have her removed immediately.”
So, he was entertaining another woman. How could he… Fury simmered beneath the surface of her calm facade. Why had he never come to confirm if the reports were true? She always knew Richard would never waste a minute on her, but Bastian… They were so close. Kindred spirits. He should have been able to feel, somehow, that she was alive. Disappointment washed over her. Instead of fawning over his swoon, Cordelia jumped to her feet, walked over to sideboard, and grabbed a bottle of port. Then, she returned to him and began to unscrew the cork.
“Cordelia, what are you doing?”
“Getting him to come out of his swoon.”
“With that?”
“Yes. Do you take issue with my course of action, my lord?” The marquess stepped away and waved for her to continue. “If you would rather leave, I am quite capable of waking and caring for him.”
“I will leave the two alone once I am assured you can stay. Though we should not stay too late.”
“And I assure you, my lord, once I have said what I have to say, he will probably want me removed from the premises immediately.”
“In that case, I will wait in the hall for you.” Once his lordship closed the door behind him, she dumped the bottle of port over Bastian’s face. He sputtered at first, and when his eyes opened wildly, followed by oaths being muttered, he stared at her and jumped to his feet.
“Damnation, woman! You are alive!” He practically collided into her to embrace her, and all she could do was slap him. Her hand stung from the impact. She instantly regretted her action, but how else was she to express her displeasure at his courting another woman? Bastian growled at her.
“What in the world was that for?”
“That was for not looking for me! And if I were you, I would stay back. I am liable to slap you again for entertaining other female guests.” “Cordelia…please! You have to understand. All of the ton thinks you are dead. Hell, everyone thought you dead. The carriage was decimated.”
“But you did not come, not until that night in the inn, and even then, you were not searching me out. Tell me, how many whores have you entertained since my supposed death? Has anyone come close to pleasuring you the way I did so faithfully.” The earl shook his head at her with vehemence. “Sweetheart, had I suspected there was even the smallest chance of your survival, I would have sought you out.” I doubt that. “When you decide to come to your senses, I am only in town for a few more days. I did have much to say to you, but I am so furious with you right now, ’tis best I wait.”
She walked toward the door. “Cordelia…wait…” Stay here, love. There is plenty of room.”
“I did not travel alone. And, unlike you, I have a responsibility to see to. Adieu.”

My 3.5 Star Review

I received this book from the touring host for an honest review.

Her Deviant Lord is the third book in the Pleasure Garden Follies. With a good plot and great characters the story itself needed more work. Again there are a few gaps within the story and I feel the author rushed the story for some reason. If she had spend more time on the story creating more scenes itself this would have been a great book.
I like the fact that Isabel and Nathaniel played a mayor role in the book as they helped the couple Bastian and Cordelia to be together after a long separation. In the first book we have learned about Cordelia and her villain of a husband; Richard, The Dutch of Downsbury, who caused much mayhem in both the previous books. With Cordelia declared dead after an accident, he weaseled his way to marry Emily, all to sell her and get his hands on her dowry.
Cordelia's strong willed and very protective character makes her a wonderful and believable person. Very protective about her son she knew exactly what she wanted. Determined, she's willing to risk all to have Bastian back in her life.
Bastian who was her lover in book 1; ended up mourning her death more than her husband in Book 2. Devastated he almost lost it but with his friends he regained his composure and be the man Cordelia loved. In this book, he finally got his act together, moving on when he saw her at a tavern and swooned, thinking he saw a ghost. Willing to go after her and fighting for his family.
When the two finally meet, all kinds of mayhem followed once again; with a new villain in the form of a courtesan, we learn about Richard's fate as well, which was well deserved.
The love scenes were choppy; since this is a erotic romance, it needed more action between the sheets, it was cut short to quickly and in the process it missed the desire and passion it hinted on between them.
This is not a stand alone book and must be read in series, since the plot continues throughout it.
Overall a entertaining series but I would definitely recommend the author put more meat on the bones, so to speak, so that this could become a great series.

EXCERPT-PG RATED #2
At first, Helen balks at his touch.  Looking down at his strong hands, she sees them covered in blood and lets out a groan.  Then, before her bewildered eyes the blood fades away, soaks into his skin, and disappears.  She needs him now, needs him near, needs his strength and soon leans against him for support.  Support he offers with willing gratitude.  "S-s-sou-" she takes a deep breath and lets it out quickly forcing out the word as well, "Souvenirs," the slight tremble turns to a wracking shake as it shoots from her whirling head to her toes.  "Do you think he…takes…souvenirs?" "What kind of souvenirs, sweetheart?"  Kevin gently sits her down, pulls the crocheted blanket from the back of the sectional and wraps it around her slender shoulders before taking a seat next to her. Brushing the hair away from her worried ashen face his heart sinks in his broad chest.  Taking up her hands in his he waits for her to collect her thoughts and answer him.  Things are missing, lots of things are missing lately now that she's thinking about it.  She's blamed her aging mind and her own stupidity along with the washing machine but, "My glasses?  They were right there," she holds both hands out to the book on the coffee table, "I was reading the book, I was tired, I put it down, I put my glasses on top of it, and I went to bed.  I know I did.  In the morning they were gone."Sheriff Natick opens his notebook as he takes a seat in the rocking chair by the fire but diagonally across from Helen.  "Anything else missing Mrs. Makris?"Helen looks over at Kevin, leans in and whispers, "A pair of my panties…and the bra.  Would he take those?""Lingerie," Kevin says in a voice loud for everyone to hear, "panties and bra."  He watches Natick write it down before looking at her.  "Yes, he would definitely take those.  What else?""I think maybe some candles are missing and, well, the sash of my robe went missing."  They are all such small insignificant things.  Why would she think anyone was stealing them before now?  One thing wasn't quite so small or insignificant and the fact that she'd misplaced it upset her.  "My necklace," she looks over to Rafe, "the diamond and ruby one your father gave me for our twentieth wedding anniversary," she catches Anderson's gaze, "I went looking for it a few days ago and it's not in my jewelry box.  I thought it was just me."Across the room Rafe let out a growling groan, "Anything else, mom?""Cologne," Helen whispers and holds Kevin's hands tighter, "sometimes I think, sometimes I smell, musk but it’s cheap not like your father wore, not really.  The smoke?"  Her eyes roll over to Kevin, their usual sparkle extinguished.  "It's not wood, is it?  It's pipe tobacco."

Review for 'The Finishing of Lady Amelia' and Valentine's Giveaway with Scarlett Rains

Lady Amelia Fitzailwyn knows everything about everything... she certainly does not require Finishing School! If John and Alex had not tattled on her, she would still be home! It was fine for them to chase every skirt in the Kingdom but she has one kiss ...or two, and Uncle carts her off! Day one of her banishment, at Madame de Rigeur's Young Ladies Finishing Academie, is dismal. Her roommate is insular, Clarissa is cruel...and that spotty girl's rash is probably contagious! Then, she meets Monsieur Pelfrie, the handsomest man she has ever seen, and Amelia decides it might just be possible to endure the two long years away from home.

Enjoy this delightful tale of mischief and mayhem as a sheltered young woman comes of age in Georgian England. Includes excerpts from Scarlett Rains’ captivating Sisters of the Heart series!

About the Author

Author of the popular Sisters of the Heart Series books: Promises of the Heart and Seduction of a Bluestocking

Scarlett Rains was raised in an orphanage, survived that and breast cancer! She considers all of it a blessing, refuses to let anything stop her; insisting that life is what you make it! Scarlett is a person who will spout optimistic 'truths' with her last breath! She is a busy grandma juggling a hectic schedule to try to balance her family's needs (including her insular cat's hissy-fits and her demanding dog's pathetic begging for belly rubs) and still manage a few minutes to write her stories. She often awakens from a sound sleep, jumps up, snatches a cup of coffee and hides in her office behind locked doors typing 18th century romance novels. Scarlett believes escaping her day-to-day responsibilities by living vicariously in the lives of the characters she creates keeps her out of trouble …and saves the cost of psychotherapy services. The author’s delightful Sisters of the Heart Series books are enjoyed by readers around the world. Scarlett loves receiving feedback and ideas from her readers.

First off, I must point out that when I have become part of the writing community in 2012, Mrs. Rains was one of the first people I met and I have learned a lot from her during this time. Hosting her on my blog is a great privileged for me, and I can only wish her all the best with her books and her blog where she gives valuable information to newcomers. She is a very talented author, passionate about writing and helping others to be the best. It is really great to know her.

My 4 Star reviewI received the book from the author for an honest review.

A coming of age historical set in the Gregorian time where manners and the conduct of a lady was the most valued commodity she could have. Lady Amelia proofed to be a handful by her uncle and was send away exactly for that reason. But we soon learned that this lady had a mind of her own and mischief and mayhem followed her and her friends throughout their two years of school.
With subjects like dancing, the handling of a fan and penmanship these ladies were groomed with one purpose, to get the best marriage proposal. Amelia, with her romantic heart wanted to know all about love, kissing and romance and found herself often at the mercy of her friends who did not feel the same. As we know, life has a way to mold us and it was no different for Lydia, Elisabeth, Josie, Ann and Clarissa. Harsh realities had made them weary for the marriage bond and from day one Lydia refused to be caught in such a bond.
As we learn more about them you could not help but be drawn to each character. Each had their own identity that sets them apart. Making this group diverse and interesting. The pranks they played on Clarissa caused a few entertaining moments, some were down right nasty.
The teachers were strict and rigid in their teaching, taking no nonsense from these girls. But that they were stretched to the limit was an understatement with these young women.
A really fun read, fast paced and well written makes this a good read and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Sneak Peak Chapter Ten  “Okay, let’s hit that once more from the top,” directed one very perfection-driven recording engineer. Enoch “Z-man” Zimmerman is, by far, the most on-point dude I know; nothing gets by him—musically speaking—and if his name is attached to it, so is excellence. If I hadn’t known this about him beforehand, I would’ve ended this session an hour ago. Old dude is dipping into my pockets—deep. But, it’s all good. There’s no price tag on quality or knowing that your creative vision is being birthed and we did cover a lot of ground in these last two days. However, I was trying to come in under a budget since I still have to get updated headshots and that, alone, can cost a mint. Needless to say, the budget needs a budget. From within the encapsulated sound booth, I quickly prepare myself for a retake by clearing my throat and rolling my head to work out neck and shoulder tension. This is the last track we’re recording, also my favorite, and I can’t risk anything getting in the way of my sound. I’ve reworked the lyrics and rearranged the music to Will Downing’s All About You and in a play on words, I decided to use the working title, All About Him, for my CD. Z-man, who was previously in a zone setting the levels on the control panel, gives me his ‘look,’ the one that says, any minute nowwaiting on you. Closing my eyes, I ease into the moment by thinking of the unending blessings God has poured into my life, most recently the love and devotion of a woman who loves Him as much as I do. I give Z-man a thumbs up, our non-verbal cue that I’m ready to record. Through my headphones, I hear the music intro and seconds later, Z-man‘s voice comes through in a word, “Rolling.” Swaying side to side, I’m feeling it and without forethought, I take ownership of the musical moment and sing, “I’m not a perfect man, I do the best I can…” Inside of four minutes, Z-man shouts, “Perfect!” and just like that we’re done. Demo complete, mission accomplished. Talk about feeling good … man!Collecting my sheet music from the copy stand, I give the booth the once-over and scan the small space for other belongings I might have overlooked. As if handling a Ming vase, I carefully place the headphones on the overhead hang. Lord knows the last thing I need now is to have Z-man add something else to my currently swollen studio tab.“You know, O.C., I believe your voice has gotten much stronger. Not at all like when I first recorded you a few years back. You’ve got a more mature sound.”Beaming with pride, “Man, a lot has gotten stronger andbetter with me.” I strike an impressive bodybuilder crab pose, careful not to flash the shiny new article of jewelry that now resides on the ring finger of my left land. We both laugh and post up a high-five on it. “Oh, I know that look. Had it once upon a time myself,” Z-man reflects. “That’s the look of a man who’s found his better half. Congrats again, man. I wish you the best.” His voice fades as though he’s been a casualty of love. And while his wound may still be fresh, he is no love reject; he’s recovering from the death of his wife earlier this year.“Thanks, Z,” I respond. Placing a sympathetic hand on his shoulder which serves as a point of contact as well, I whisper a brief prayer for his healing. “That means a lot, man.”“I miss her, O.C.” his voice slightly cracking, “I miss her a lot.” Z-man’s body slowly slumps in his chair, his eyes misting despite his best efforts to blink back the tears.Identifying with his pain in the presence of my own joy is a real challenge, but I do my best to console him anyway. “You and Maggie…watching the two of you was…was…well, inspiring. Y’all were so in sync. I’ve never seen anything like it except for my Mom and Pops, of course.” Although I did my best to encourage Z-man, Goddess is the pro at this kind of thing since she deals with death and sorrow every day for a living.I watch as a nostalgic smile sweeps across Z-man’s face. I must’ve said something right. Unfolding his grief-tormented body, he sits straight up and releases a fraction of his pain through a loud exhale, “Remember this…if this were your last day on earth, what would you look at more closely, more intensely? What would you appreciate? What would you want to savor? What would really be important to you?” He pauses and appears to be thinking about his next words.

Synopsis
Combining heart-soaring contemporary romance with heart-pounding suspense is a trademark of New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lori Ryan—and in her novel Ever Hopeful she delivers spectacularly on both counts. Two-months pregnant and trapped in a violent marriage, Laura Kensington realizes that her ruthless and powerful in-laws will never let her go, even after the strange sudden death of her abusive husband. Fleeing far away to the Texas ranch of Cade Bishop, a strong yet tender man who believes in second chances, Laura finds herself irresistibly drawn to Cade’s gentle passion and giving heart. But there is no escaping the shadows of her past and soon danger re-enters her world, pulling Laura into a deadly web of lies, betrayals, and murder. And only Cade Bishop’s quiet strength and unwavering love can set her free.

excerptnew
Laura smiled but Cade’s comment sent her thoughts in a completely different direction. She was suddenly painfully aware that she wanted him to see her as a woman. How totally inappropriate was that? She was pregnant with her dead husband’s child and running from his family. She might be a grown woman but the fact was, she’d never been independent. She’d always been tied to a man—first her father and then her husband. This was the time in her life when she needed to take charge, learn to support herself, and be independent. Yet, here she was thinking about how gorgeous the man sitting across from her was and wondering if he liked what he saw when he looked at her. Cade frowned at her. “What are you thinking? You seem like you took a little trip in your head for a minute.” If only you knew. Laura shook her head. She needed to figure out how she was going to take care of her baby when it came, how she would support them both. How she was going to get away from the Kensingtons and their powerful, seemingly endless reach. How she’d fight them if they tracked her down and tried to take the baby from her. The last thing she should be thinking was what it would be like to be in Cade’s arms, to touch him and feel his mouth on her skin.... “I was just thinking that I need to find a way to support myself and the baby. I can’t live off you guys forever.” “Try telling that to Mama. I think she’s planning to adopt you,” said Cade. Laura felt a sharp pain at his joke and had a feeling she probably grimaced. What would it have been like to be born to May Bishop? To have been raised in a place like this by someone who loved her? To receive the unconditional love that a parent is supposed to have for their child? Fairy tales…. She’d given up on things like that a long time ago. It wasn’t useful to sit and pity herself and cry about her circumstances. But, being so close to a family like the Bishops...made her want to go back in time and rewrite her story. If not rewrite who she was born to, at least change her decision to marry Patrick. “Well, I’ll have to come up with something,” Laura said, but in all honesty waiting tables was about the only thing she was qualified to do. She forced a smile. She may not have ever had a mother like May Bishop, but she’d make damn sure her child did. Her baby would know she was loved no matter what. That nothing could ever take her mother’s love away. If Laura was sure of one thing in her life, she was sure of that. She would love this child with all her heart and all that she was.

This was one of the most enjoyable books I have read this year. 5 Star Review for Where the Wildflowers grow.

BlurbSexual confusion and dysfunction cause the unraveling of the perfect American family in small town Georgia in 1960.

Rose Cassidy's fantasy life is a haunting reminder that she's living a lie. So when she has the opportunity to act on those fantasies, she dives in without any thought to consequences.

Rose's husband, Ryan, has fantasies of his own, and his actions cause unimaginable hurt [pain] to the very children he tries so hard to protect.

When the happiness each member of the Cassidy family seeks so desperately to find is shattered by shame, guilt, and ultimately murder, they must each face the truth that lies deep within their souls.

5 Star Review
I received the book from the touring host for an honest review.
This was on of the best books I have read for 2014. I struggled to put it down. This books complexities and many layers kept me at all hours. With fascinating characters that touch the heart, you could experience their struggles and confusion during a time that it was unacceptable to be yourself. Believable, I could connect with every character in this book. Written from all their points of views you learned firsthand their troubles and reasoning when making decisions that would alter their futures. With Rose, and her struggle with independence as she stepped out of a long time marriage, and her love for another woman. At first, we met her as a self-absorbed woman that reasoned like her counterparts during the early sixties. With her pretty dresses, stockings, hats, etc. When she met Heather for the first time, her world was turned up side down. She was introduced to a whole new lifestyle, wearing pants and enjoying life. Something she would have not done as a wife, mother and housewife. With Ryan, in his search for something more then what life offered him, being bored with his marriage and finding short lived relief in the arms of others. Through many mistakes we got to learn this man, growing from self-centered to one who really cared for those he loved. Being the father in his old age that he was not in his younger years. Due to an unwanted baby, he was confronted with more than he bargained for. I really admired his growth and how he progressed as a respected man.Lily, who experienced love to early in her teenage years was always seeking for that same love. A forbidden love that could never be, paying the sacrifice of a father's sin long into her adult life. Fluttering from relationships to different marriages to find happiness.Dalton, who as a thirteen year old boy believed a few lies, doing what he had to, to protect his sister. His sense of understanding had lead him on several wrong paths, but at the end he turned out to be a well adjusted man. These struggles continued throughout his adult life, where he became a Priest and teacher.Pierce, who had to pay the ultimate price dew to a father's sin, turned out to be the most likable from them all. His strong character out-shined the few mistakes he made. A independent young man that could be trusted as he stepped into the footsteps of his father. Fiercely dedicated to all he loved, knowing right from wrong.Overall, a story that surpasses the dysfunctional, as you learn about hope, and the beauty of love within the pages of this book. Beautifully written and fast paced, you are taken back in a time where prejudiced ran rampantly, almost destroying the people involved but coming out stronger as human beings.I book I can recommend to all women/ Southern Fiction readers. Even those who is willing to take a chance and read something different. You will not be disappointed in this book.

Interview Questions:
1.      Where did the idea come from for the book? Not a clue what sparked us on this one. Bond of the Lycaon Concubine literally started with the bar scene at the beginning, with having no other ideas at the time other than wanting a Lycaon story. The second scene we wrote out was the kiss at the fountain. It wasn’t until we created the shimmer under Raina’s arm band that we finally realized there was going to be a twist in it.2.      What genre does your book fall under?MF/MFM/ Paranormal Shifter/ Erotic Romance
3.      Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?Wow, we had a hard enough time finding models to match what was in our heads, L Uhm… Billy Wirth (younger years} would make a great Tristan, a long haired Brad Pitt for Vashon and Raina is a toughy, So We’d have to say Jennifer Lawrence with a splash of Keira Knightley4.      What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?“So you think you know the story of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf? Think again—”
 5.      Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? We are Proud Indy Authors, so yes, Bond of the Lycaon Concubine has been self-published6.      How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?Since we work on a number of different books all at once, it’s hard to give an accurate time period. But we worked on if over the span of one year, {not consistently, it sat when it was about 70% complete for a while}, when we got stumped over a few scenes that just weren’t flowing well in the story, and it wasn’t until we agreed to cut a scene that everything finally fit. Stories are funny that way.7.      What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? For us, it was kinda like developing the non gothic Underworld of Lycaons. Book wise: somewhere between Madelaine Montague and Aline Hunter’s Alpha and Omega. And while I haven’t read them, one reader drew parallels with Sherrilyn Kenyon's WereHunters and early Anita Blakes by Laurell K Hamilton: 8.      Who or What inspired you to write this book?We both love paranormal and sci-fi. There are absolutely no limitations of where a story can go. The trick is making the reader believe it’s actually happening. We’d read a number of books with shifters, some awesome some not so much, and we just decided it was time to put our version out in the world.  9.      What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? That sometimes you have to stop looking at things like a human in order to give in to thing that you want to be seduced by.Oh and you are not going to believe the twists that comes later in the second book
~~Interview was filled out by Author Princess SO with Talon’s responses in mind, posthumous.~~

EXCERPT ONE:
“Got a penny?” Raina asked pointing to the fountain ahead of them.Tristan gave her a skeptical glance, while he fished through his pocket for a penny, “You really want to make a wish?”“Oh, yeah.” She gave him a daringly sultry look, “I’m thinking I do.”Tristan blinked heavily at her, taking notice of her dark expression and tone. He passed the penny to her hand, “Okay, but so’syou know, you're scaring me.”Raina stepped up to the fountain and closed her eyes for a moment.Tristan watched the almost dreamy expression on her face. Damn, she looked good under the moon. He’d been falling for her for some time now, but watching her now, he believed he was helplessly captured. Her hand went up, tossing the coin into the water with a slight plunk sound. She watched the ripple spread out on the water’s surface a moment taking a deep and fitful breath before turning to face him. Seemingly waiting for something.“So what did you wish for?”Raina rolled her lips in a nervous gesture, stepping closer, “A kiss.” And she pushed up on her toes, bringing her lips to his.The first touch was light as a feather, like the kiss of a ghost and he found himself haunted by his wanting of it. He leaned down to her, cautiously allowing the contact of her soft lips. Soft and tender as she pressed against his and he felt a tender warmth flow through him.Her lips parted, but only enough to allow him a taste of her breath— like the morning dew she was, and it was gone. His breath caught in his throat watching her step back. His head swayed, surprising him. No way a single kiss should feel so sensual, but it did. His breath deepening, his hand fumbling through his pockets and procured a handful of coins, which he held them out to her with a boyish grin.
Raina laughed, she wasn’t fooled by that look. For all his intentions of looking innocent just made him look all the more like a sexy bad boy. He reminded her of one the actors from that old 80’s movie, Lost Boys, the vampire bad boy with long black hair and just as drool worthy. Or perhaps, maybe more, because Tristan had one hell of a body hiding under his shirt.“I think I got a fifty in my wallet. Will paper money work in the fountain as well?” He joked, then again, he’d offer damn near anything to feel that kiss again.“Gee, I don’t know.” She toed the ground in front of her, “I mean, I’m concerned I might be hurting someone else’s feelings if I accept.”“What do you mean?” This wasn’t good. Why would she dare to kiss him if she was involved with someone else? But that didn’t make any sense either; he’d worked with her enough days of the week to know she didn’t have a boyfriend or lover of any sort. He’d watched her too often to not know.“Well, there’s this barback I work with and he’s pretty hot, except he wears these crazy—”Tristan’s mouth was over hers before she could finish her sentence. The coins in his hand spilling to the ground around their feet as he reached around to her back to pull her to him.His tongue parting her lips to open up for him, letting him into the warm cavern of her mouth. The taste of hot, sweet honey awaited him, drew him to probe deeper, his tongue tangling with hers. He had often fantasized what it would feel like to kiss her, to taste her, but he had not dreamed it would be like this. From the moment his lips took hers, he was lost in her. Pleasure spiraled around his nerves, hunger wrapping around him, it emanated from her and licked his body with burning flames.God, her kiss was good. And he needed to have more of it.He stepped into her, forcing her to walk back, pushing her towards the garden wall that circled around the fountain, his hands moving around to grasp her hips and lifted her up on the wall. He pressed between her legs and she broke away from his kiss, gasping with ragged breaths that fought for air. His own lungs heaving in his chest. He was already regretting the loss of her lips. A firm hand clasping around behind her neck to pull her back to him, connecting with her, pressing his forehead to hers. He would give her only a moment longer— a flicker of time to catch her breath.“So how many coins was that, you had?” She managed to ask through her panting. “Oh hell, I got a whole jar full at home I plan to use up.” He pulled her back to him. If she had regained her breath enough to talk, then she could take his kiss again.

Promises of the Heart (Sisters of the Heart Series, Book One) [Kindle Edition]Scarlett Rains (Author)Publication Date: December 25, 2013
Book Description Fate Plays a Hand! When Amelia Fitzailwyn, Duchess of Kensington, is orphaned at a very young age, she must leave home and travel to her new guardian's estate. She embarks on the journey with her beloved governess, Rachel: wishing all the while that her Uncle William would somehow rescue her. To her delight, he does! Uncle William is her new guardian...and he has two sons! Amelia happily settles in to life at Havenwood Manor with her new family. The Stage is Set! What are the servants whispering about? Have they noticed all those heated looks between Uncle and Rachel? Amelia sees mysteries everywhere...and would solve them all if her cousins would leave her alone long enough to do her research! She wishes John, the eldest, would keep his nose out of her affairs and poke it back in his theme book, How to be the Most Boring Personage in the Realm. And Alex, the skirt chasing hypocrite, irritates her even more: going on-and-on about her one little rendezvous with Simon. Time Will Tell! When it turns out Uncle, is not really her uncle, Amelia begins to see the irksome boys in a new light. In fact, she plans to marry one of them! Will John stop straining his steely grey eyes reading and see her for the woman she is? Or will Alex stop pulling the curl out of her hair long enough to notice the sheen of it as it wraps around his finger? Solve the mystery, dear reader, as you enjoy this delightful tale of a young woman's coming of age in Georgian England.
Review [image error] from Nancy on  Goodreads:"Promises of the Heart" is an eighteenth century tale of a young girl’s coming of age. The first thing I really liked about this book was the lovely graphics reflecting the time period in London, England. The reader is also pulled into the story at once with carefully crafted prose appealing to all five senses.

For example: watching the fluffy clouds lazily form shapes that quickly swirled into other shapes in the gentle breeze…a cacophony of sounds bombarded the weary coachman: the hue and cry of merchants and street people rose up above the clopping of the horses hooves in a relentlessly forlorn lament.

Scarlett Rains does a masterful job on style continuity throughout the entire novel. Somewhat like Charles Dickens, but more like the Victoria Holt novels I read profusely at one time in my life, "Promises of the Heart" resonates with cleverly woven intrigue surrounded by authentic characters of the day. Historical novels should inform about the life and times of the era—"Promises of the Heart" did not disappoint! The segue to her second novel "Seduction of a Bluestocking" was a perfect cliffhanger, enticing the reader to find out what happens next. Well done, Scarlett Rains! Five Stars!

About the author:Scarlett Rains was raised in an orphanage, survived that and breast cancer!

 Interview Questions for Scarlett Rains:
1.      Where did the idea come from for the book? I actually was writing Betrayals of the Heart, the book I envisioned as the 3rdbook in my Sisters of the Heart series, when all these ideas about Amelia as a teenager kept popping into my head.  I couldn’t seem to let go of it. The Finishing of Lady Amelia was a story demanding to be told.  In the telling of it, I drew largely from my experiences growing up in an orphanage.  Believe me, when you house 10-15 girls together they manage to get into all sorts of mischief. 2.      What genre does your book fall under? Young adult, historical. 3.      Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?I cannot think of one person that really fits my characters.  Jennifer Lawrence might be convincing as Lydia.4.      What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? The Finishing of Lady Amelia is a delightful tale of mischief and mayhem as a sheltered young woman comes of age in Georgian England. 5.      Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? Some of my books were first self-published, now all are represented by Artemis Books. 6.      How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? I think it developed over about a 6 month period. 7.      What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? I have been told that the story reminds readers of The Mallory Towers books. 8.      Who or What inspired you to write this book? I was inspired by Amelia’s personality in Promises of the Heart.  I had to know more about her as a teenager and I had to know that she persevered and became a person Rachel (her governess) would admire.  I was inspired to write about the type of young woman she is, and the characters she encounters at school, as a result of my own life experiences.  I believe strongly in supporting women in their endeavour to be valued as individuals.  I hope that message is clear in all of my stories. 9.      What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? There is a lot of humour in the tale, I hope.  I laughed aloud when I was writing any scene involving Monsieur and the scene about the Fighting Women almost made me hurt myself laughing.  It gives me great pleasure to make someone laugh.  I believe we all need the healing of laughter.
