Peppermint Mocha: A Highly-Caffeinated Love Song
for Jodee
Double double, toil and trouble,
Filter drip and carafe bubble.
By the ringing of sleigh bells
Something awesome this way smells!
Peppermint Mocha, now you're here,
Bringing joy we often lack.
All year long while you're away,
We sit and cry and hope and pray
That soon you will come back.
We like you like we like our men:
Rich and dark and steamy hot.
Say that you've come back to stay.
We'll drink you, pot by pot.
Gulp by gulp or sip by sip,
Sleek French press or filter drip,
Make it strong or make...

Filter drip and carafe bubble.

In Defense of Wanderlust: The World is Beautiful and Amazing
(a Theology of Travel, Part 1)
The world is beautiful and amazing. It teaches us about God. The people in it fascinate, and since they are made His image, each one bears a different lesson for us. If you wallpaper your heart with maps and groan that checking off your bucket list would require an eternity, take heart and read on.
The World is Beautiful and Amazing
On this point, you likely need little convincing.
From the broadest expanse to the most minute detail, creation points to an infinitely...

How to Feel All the Feels
Photo credit: Gunnar DickfeldFor the uninitiated, the term feels is internet shorthand for extreme emotional reactions. Although the term may be new to a few of you (ahem, mom) the sensation is surely not.
As a person who has lived in the world, you no doubt have stumbled across these moments of extreme emotional response. Whether they've been expected or unexpected, they have invariably left shockwaves of residual feels radiating outward through life, until even the mere memories of thes...

What to Do When You Feel Ordinary
I never see it coming.
One moment I'm pleased with my choices, content with my lot, and proud of my achievements. The next I'm overcome by a crushing sense of pointlessness. Whether this feeling is valid or not is irrelevant. It feels true, and therefore must be dealt with.
Sometimes it comes from hearing on the news that somewhere out there, someone has done something absolutely amazing -- something that I could never do even were I given all the resources in the world and a billio...

How to Think about Time
Ah, Daylight Savings Time: all the fun of a mild case of jet lag without the hassle of actual travel.
Am I right?
The hunger cramps at weird hours of the day, the extra daylight or darkness at unexpected times, the general crankiness....
The question of why we still observe Daylight Savings Time is hotly debated, but perhaps more interesting would be the questions associated with how and why we mark time the way that we do.
How We Mark Time:
Perhaps you're one of the lucky souls who has never...

Classic Songs As Written by Small Children
If the world's classic songs had been written by small children, the results might look something like this:
"Soap Gets in Your Eyes"
"All You Want for Christmas Is Sleep (But You'll Never Get Any)"
"The Little Drummer Boy Who Never Stops Drumming"
"Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Teething"
"I Fall to Pieces (as Soon as We Get to the Store, for No Discernible Reason)"
"I Saw Mommy Stepping on that Lego (I Hid Under the Mistletoe Last Night)"
"Wake Up Little Suzy... and You'll Regret It"
"Across the W...

How to Prepare for Company in Five Easy Steps
I have several sets of family and friends coming into town this week.
Although we've been planning events for months, somehow circumstances managed to get away from me entirely. Until two days ago, that is, when a fortuitous phone call alerted me to the reality of the situation.
Oh, yeah. This is happening. And it's happening this week.
(Don't worry, friends of mine who are reading this. I'm not completely unprepared. I'm just... you know... flailing around in utter panic. As one doe...
