The Tarot: 0 The Fool

Traits:

Wisdom

Folly

Beginnings

The moment before the first step is taken.

Let’s take a journey, an adventure, or begin a new endeavor.  The fool represents the newness of it all, the innocence.  It is the end of one life and the beginning of another.  It is the foolishness of youth and the wisdom of knowing the path must be traveled.

The Coyote

The animal representation of the fool is the coyote.  The coyote represents the balance of wisdom and folly.  These two elements must go hand in hand to be able to brave a new adventure.  The coyote also represents the trickster or prankster.  The most successful adventures know that working without playing is a recipe for disaster.

Upright Position

When the coyote or fool is in your spread in an upright position, know that you are embarking on a wonderful adventure and as with every new adventure, there is no way to know what steps must be taken or what decision must be made.

Reverse Position

When the coyote or fool is in your spread in the reverse, be aware of your flexibility.  Know that changes are coming and you will need to be able to change with the coming time.  Also, be aware of those around you and how they will react to the changes that are coming.

Questions To Ask

Is this adventure foolhardy?  Are you ready to make these changes in your life?  Will those around you help you in your journey or will the lack of cooperation hinder your adventure?  Also look at what is happening and ask if you are making things to complicated or are being to inflexible?

Knowing yourself and what you want out of your new adventure is the best way to accomplish your goals.  Remember K.I.S.S. (Keep It Super Simple) Your life is what you make of it and the adventure is always interesting.

What kind of adventure are you willing to take?  What kind of project are you willing to undertake.  Reply below and let me know what you are willing to do to follow your bliss!

The Wheel of the Year: Samhain

According to Janet and Stewart Farrar, the Sabbats are “seasonal festivals which mark key points in the natural year”.  Since Wiccans believe in being one with nature, these seasonal festivals allow us to celebrate nature in all its glory.  The eight Sabbats are Samhain, Winter Solstice, Imbolgc, Spring Equinox, Beltane, Summer Solstice, Lammas and Fall Equinox.

Samhain (pronounced Sow-in) is the first of the Sabbats being discussed as it is the Wiccan’s New Year.  This Sabbat is considered to be the ending and the beginning of the Wheel of the Year. It is also one of the four Greater Sabbats.

This festival celebrates the completion of the harvest and the beginning of winter.  The is the Sabbat that represents the death of the Gods and preparing for his rebirth at Yule.  It is said that this night is when the veil is thinnest between the worlds and the spirits of the ancestors walk the night.

The ritual or spell that works best during Samhain is one of divination or resolutions.  Decorate the altar with fall leaves or a pumpkin, black or grey candles, cakes and drinks for the visiting spirits.  Begin your ritual with prayers to the ancestors requesting their presence.  Request guidance for the year to come from the visiting spirits.  Then thank them for their visit before they leave.

Once the ritual or spell is complete, visit with the others at the ritual.  Eat and drink merrily for the winter comes, but know that Spring is just ahead.
