Prequels
I just dropped a new post on my blog where I give a few thoughts about prequels in general and Better Call Saul in particular. It can be found at www.kevindoylefiction.com

Progress, I Guess
Between the latest situation, plus several snow days earlier in the year, I've made the best of a bad situation. Tonight put the finishing touches on the second Sam Quinton book, sending it off to publisher tomorrow morning.
Combine that with a couple months back when I finished and submitted the third in the "Group" novels, and goals for this stretch accomplished. Though I wish I wouldn't have had so much free time the last week or so.

Welcome
Wanted to say a quick welcome to all who've begun following my GR page since last night. Between teaching full-time and other commitments, my posts here can be a bit sporadic, but among other things I'll use this space for news, upcoming stuff and other tidbits. Welcome to all.

Almost There
Next Tuesday, March 10, marks a few personal milestones for me. That day will see the release by Camel Press of my newest book, Squatter's Rights, the first Sam Quinton Mystery novel. This is significant, to me, for a couple of reasons.
One, it will be my fifth book release. This from someone who had only intended to write short stories to no end. Originally, I saw my entire writing career as horror short stories and nothing else. But about eight years ago that went by the wayside, at least temporarily, and here we are.
Second, Squatter's Rights marks the (I hope) first in my second series of mystery novels. This, also, is a bit breathtaking when I consider it. While none of my books have exactly flown off the virtual shelves, at the moment various publishers are still willing to take a chance on me, which says something or other. (Squatter's Rights actually had two small publishers making an offer, something else that was a first for me.)
I'm still not quite sure where this will all end, and it's pretty obvious I'm not going to be able to retire early, but so far it's been a rather interesting ride.

It's Here
Today is release day for When You Have to Go There, the followup to The Group. Bit of delay on print version, but e-book version is available from all the usual places. The basic question: how do the police track down a serial killer when they themselves are the predator's targets? When You Have to Go There

Darn It
Well, that's a bummer. Just found out that USA's Colony has been cancelled. I only do two or three TV series at a time, so now a slot has opened up. Any suggestions for something to take its place? (At least I still have Better Call Saul, at least for a while.)

New Company
A while back, Coffeetown Press offered, and I gladly accepted, a contract for Squatter's Rights, what I hope to be the first in a series of novels, featuring Sam Quinton, a former professional wrestler and current gym owner and private investigator. The editing process is currently underway.

Upcoming Release

November 22, 2015
Phew
Ten months after beginning, including one botched attempt that I scrapped, just completed the major revisions on "When You Have to Go There," the sequel to "The Group." The project isn't finished, as such, because there's still polishing, tightening and proofing to do, but if everything goes right somewhere around April I'll be ready to start looking for a publisher. For now, time to slack off for a few days.
