Ever notice that your pooch starts acting weird before a big thunderstorm touches down? Well, according to Li-ran Bukovza, the founder of Puppy Tip, a dog training and behavior advice website, that’s because your dog can sense storm clouds moving in before you see them.
“There are several possible explanations for this, the most likely being that dogs have a stronger sense of smell and hearing, which makes them more sensitive to changes in the atmosphere,” Bukovza says.

Though experts still don’t know the exact moment that a dog can sense pregnancy, the American Kennel Club (AKC) says that dogs, thanks to their acute senses, are relatively quick to pick up on major changes in your body and emotions. And, more likely than not, after they sense that you’re pregnant, they’ll become extra protective and more likely to bark at any potential threat (read: fellow strangers in the park).

Friends - For the next few weeks we’ll look at some Guniness World Records Broken this year.
A display of 36,440 LEGO "Star Wars" minifigures broke a world record.
LEGO Group set a Guinness World Record on April 11 by creating the largest display of LEGO "Star Wars" minifigures. There were 36,440 Stormtrooper figurines in the final display, which took 12 people 38 hours to build, according ot the Guinness World Records website.

Not only can they detect certain cancers, but dogs can also be trained to keep tabs on the insulin levels of their owners; they possess a practically supernatural ability to detect certain biochemical changes that occur within a person’s body. “Dogs can also smell biochemical changes that indicate a diabetic person has low blood sugar, and can be trained to identify people about to have a seizure from low blood sugar,” Devine says.

Kane Tanaka of Japan was confirmed as the world's oldest living person in March when she was 116 years, 66 days old on March 9. She was born in 1903, the same year the Wright brothers successfully put an airplane into flight.

In fact, a 2019 study published in the Experimental Biology journal revealed that dogs can use their highly evolved sense of smell to sniff out cancer in blood samples with an astonishing 97-percent accuracy rate. It’s essential to note, however, that dogs aren’t born with this skill. They have to undergo special training.

As many as 633 Florida scuba divers broke a record for the world's largest ocean cleanup event.
On June 15, 633 scuba-divers at Florida's Deerfield Beach participated in the world's largest ocean dive cleanup, according to a press release from Project AWARE, a nonprofit organization that supported the event. At the cleanup, 3200 lbs. of fishing gear was used, and divers removed more than 9,000 pieces of marine debris from the ocean.

Friends - Every year at this time I ask, can dogs get sunburn and what should you do about it?
Yes they can, not only on their noses, but also on their bellies. You should NOT use sunscreen with PABA or zinc oxide which many human sunscreens use. If they lick it - and try as I might I could not get Ruff to stop licking it off his nose - it “could lead to a serious condition called hemolytic anemia in some pets,” according to Dr. Ernest Ward, Jr., veterinarian.
Talk to your Vet, but here’s what I use:

July 9, 2019 - Muddy Paws?
Friends - Our home has a fenced yard for our dogs, but for decades we’ve been plagued by mud. Dogs, and especially collies will go to the end of the yard up to the open fence and bark at whatever’s visible. While doing so they’ll run back and forth and back and forth until they kill any grass along the fence line. When it rains that becomes mud and when you bring them in its caked into their paws, between their nails and soon ends up in your house no matter how hard you work on their paws.
Two years ago, we replaced our front walk way with a ramp and had a stack of fake “pavers” made of old tires. I’d used the pavers to cover the uneven concrete slabs on the walkway. As I wondered what I’d do with the pavers it hit me.
My wife was dubious, but I took them and now un-needed landscape timbers to the back yard. I arranged the pavers two wide along the fence line and place the timber right up against them so they wouldn’t move. Being flexible, the pavers fit to the contour of the ground. Then I waited for the rain. Rover went to the fence, and barked while running back and forth. I called him and his paws were wet, but clean. Its been over a year and we haven’t had a problem yet!
Ha! True, the pavers are a little pricey, ours cost about $175.00 - $5.00 a piece - but they last forever. Once or twice a year you have to re-arrange them, but that’s it.

Friends - For the next few weeks we're going to consider common sounds that dogs make and what they mean.
Howling goes back to dogs' ancestral roots.
Does your dog like to howl at the moon? The vocalization could mean any number of things. Wolves and feral dogs howl to tell other members of their pack where they are, according to Dogster. So your domesticated pup could be howling to beckon you back home. Or your dog could be letting other canines know that this is its territory and they better steer clear.
Other reasons for howling are to express anxiety, to respond to environmental triggers (e.g., a fire-engine siren), to alert its master to a discovery or injury, or to attract attention.
