April 11, 2019 - The new edition

Friends - 4 Pine Publishing has completed the repub of “Baghdad Burning” with a cool new cover. We’re hoping to get started on “Hell Rises” later this week, but in the meantime, I’ve embedded a link to the kindle version and pasted Baghdad’s “blurb.” If you haven’t read Baghdad yet, check out the blurb and if it sounds interesting, why not buy a copy?

MURDER IN BAGHDAD

No place on earth is more dangerous than Baghdad, especially if you’re Judge Isha Hami. The murder of a former Iraqi Intelligence Officer and the subsequent arrest of his killers threaten to unravel fragile alliances and plunge Iraq into civil war. Appointed Iraq’s first female Judge, Hami is randomly assigned to hear the case. As the Americans fight to maintain order, Bathists, Shias and Sunnis pressure Hami to dismiss a case none of them can afford to have go to trial. Sworn to uphold the rule of law, Hami refuses. In the shadowy maelstrom of violence and shifting loyalties that is post war Baghdad, she stands alone. Only Ted Kehr’s troubled Green Beret team mate, Ralph Jackson, and CIA Agent Hank Jenkins will fight to save Hami’s life if, as Baghdad burns, they can reach her in time and if . . . they can save themselves first.

April 9, 2019 - Dog sounds

Friends - For the next few weeks we're going to consider common sounds that dogs make and what they mean. If you're a dog owner, you know that canines have a language all their own. Whether they're barking, growling, whining or howling, they're trying to tell you something - and it pays to be informed about what those sounds could mean. Because, while they're often harmless, such vocalizations could be a sign of trouble.

Growling doesn't always mean a dog is angry or aggressive.
You might think that a growling dog is being aggressive, but that's not always the case. Often, dogs growl because they're afraid, according to Pet MD. Either they don't like what's going to happen (e.g., getting their nails trimmed), they don't know what's going to happen (e.g., a stranger comes into the home), they're protecting their resources (e.g., food and toys), or they're in pain. Keep in mind that growling may mean that your dog is having fun, like when playing with other dogs or chewing a bone.

April 4, 2019 - My minute of fame

Friends - Here it is, a photo my one minute of fame on the red carpet with my wife and Producer/Directors Cary Solomon & Chuck Konzelman at the Hollywood premier of Unplanned.

Speaking of Unplanned, its doing so well they’ve added a bunch of theaters to the list that are now showing it. If you’re from my neck of the woods, its at Robinson Town Center and Cinemark in Monaca.

But, you’re not allowed to see it, at least according to Hollywood. Representative is Samantha Bee who has a show on TBS: “It’s obviously ridiculous and no one should see it,” Bee said.

So, do as you’re told! Or . . . you can go here, type in your zip code and see where it’s showing.

April 2, 2019 - More from the Red Carpet

Friends - As I mentioned I attended the Hollywood premier of “Unplanned” at Grauman’s Chinese Theater at the generous invitation of Cary Solomon & Chuck Konzelman of Believe Entertainment. I haven’t mentioned yet, Chuck and Cary actually stopped the parade of stars, unhooked the rope and called me and Val onto the red carpet for some photos. I’ll post one next time. Meanwhile, 4 Pine Publishing has just re-released Separation of Church and State with a new cover. If you haven’t read it yet, why not give it a try - it’s only $4.99 on Kindle.

March 28, 2019 - View from the Red Carpet

Friends - As I mentioned I attended the Hollywood premier of “Unplanned” at Grauman’s Chinese Theater - technically TLC theater, they sold the naming rights to the complex to the Chinese Company TLC at the generous invitation of Cary Solomon & Chuck Konzelman of Believe Entertainment. They are the guys who optioned my first novel, The Diaries of Pontius Pilate, for development as a motion picture.

https://www.amazon.com/Diaries-Pontiu...

Once in the theater complex they have the red carpet roped off and all the big shots come down the carpet - the rest of us are diverted to the right - and get interviewed by Hollywood Reporter, Fox, ect, its crazy, like going down a crowded media buffet line.

I’ve attached a photo to show what it looks like. Here’s Pat Boone and the My Pillow Guy getting interviewed - if you’re on Goodreads, go to my Facebook page for peek and like the page.

March 26, 2019

March 26, 2019 - I was in Hollywood - seriously.

Friends - Sorry I’ve missed a couple weeks, but there’ve been big changes taking place here.

First, after over 8 years with the good folks at Trestle/My Helping Hands Press who seem to now be concentrating on non-fiction, I’ve moved to another publisher, 4 Pine Publishing. If you haven’t been able to purchase my books, that’s because they were all removed from the sites by Helping Hands to allow 4 Pine, after the process of re-formatting revised editions and creating new covers, to re-publish them. Please be patient while we update the website, Facebook, Twitter and Goodreads to reflect this new situation. Meanwhile, “The Diaries of Pontius Pilate” is done and back up for sale. You can find it on Amazon here:

Second, its true, I attended the Hollywood premier of “Unplanned” at Grauman’s Chinese Theater - technically TLC theater, they sold the naming rights to the complex to the Chinese Company TLC. My wife and I were there at the generous invitation of Cary Solomon & Chuck Konzelman of Believe Entertainment. They are the guys who optioned my first novel, The Diaries of Pontius Pilate, for development as a motion picture

Anyway, you walk into the courtyard and most of the concrete pavers have messages etched into them while the concrete was still wet like, “Cowboy on Sid, Roy Rodgers,” and messages from Humphrey Bogart and others, too many to count. You go to the theater complex and they have the red carpet roped off and all the big shots come down the carpet - the rest of us are diverted to the right - and get interviewed by Hollywood Reporter, Fox, ect, its crazy, like going down a crowded media buffet line. I had the opportunity to chat with Chuck and Cary before they went onto the carpet and solidify our relationship. After that I hung out near the carpet to watch the Red Carpet show. I’ll tell you more later, but I’m hoping this is the next stage on the road to “Diaries” becoming a motion picture. So, you haven’t read The Diaries of Pontius Pilate yet, why not give it a try.

Glad to be back, best, Max

March 7, 2019 - Did you know?

Friends - Did you know a U.S. Park Ranger once got hit by lightning seven times?

Yep. Roy Cleveland Sullivan, a park ranger at the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, who between 1942 and 1977 was struck by lightning on seven different occasions, earning him an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records and the nickname “Human Lighting Rod.” He survived all of them, and lived to the age of 71.

March 5, 2019 - Our last dog myth

Friends: Today we’re debunking our last dog myth: Only male dogs hump.

Mounting, or humping, is a sign of both dominance and insecurity and can be performed by either a male or female dog. Some dogs hump when they become excited or stressed by a situation. A female dog may even hump to get attention.

February 28, 2019 - Our last sign

Friends - For the last few weeks we’ve looked at signs you’ll live to be 100 years old.
Here’s the last - You're a good grandparent

If you spend time playing with and caring for a grandchild, you’re 37% more likely to survive than those who do not care for their grandchildren, according to analysis of the Berlin Aging Study. Don’t have grandchildren? Don’t worry. Even study volunteers who cared for others outside of their family through charity work lived an average of 3 years longer than those who did not care for anyone. Still, be wary not to get too involved; helping too much, so that it adds stress to your life, can negatively impact both your physical and mental health.

February 26, 2019 - A warm nose means

Friends - For the next few weeks we’re going to debunk some common myths about dogs:

Myth 5 - A dry or warm nose means a dog is sick. Dryness or discoloration of a dog's nose doesn't necessarily mean a dog is sick. A dog's nose actually naturally dries out in its sleep, but is right back to normal about 10 minutes after it wakes up. Dryness can also be due to allergies, sunburn, or dehydration, and some dogs' noses tend to get dryer as they age.
