I’m not a technophobe – it all just scares me a bit…

I’m not a fan of hand dryers.

Not that I like having wet hands or anything, but hand dryers – especially those new ones – annoy me.

You know the ones, they look a bit like a toaster with no sides and are mounted on the wall of every public toilet in the world.

It presents you with a bit of an odd choice a) wipe your hands on something that actually, y’know, dries them, or b) limp-wristedly drop your hands in and out of a machine that sounds vaguely like a scooter, and leaves your hands cold and...

Gettin’ on a bit…

Not to sound dramatic or anything, but turning 30 is the worst thing that could happen to anyone, anywhere.

Ok, maybe that does sound a bit dramatic.

Turning 30 isn’t as bad as, say, war. Or famine. Or, y’know, dying. But it’s still pretty bad.

The worst thing about it is that you start thinking. And not in a casually-pondering-while-taking-a-leisurely-walk sort of way, more in a desperate I’ve-been-alive-for-three-decades-and-accomplished-NOTHING kind of way.

Yup, you get to thirty and you start...

The dangers of social media

Ever felt like your every move is being watched?

Unless you’re wanted by the police, then probably not, although if you knew how easy it was to do then maybe you’d be more concerned about it.

The proliferation of social media – both the platforms we use and the frequency with which we use them – is quickly resulting in people we barely know being able to find out huge amounts of information about us. We’ve all been warned about identity theft and putting our personal details online ad nauseum,...

Babies. They’re all mental.

I got ridiculed by a leprechaun in front of a room full of people the other day.

Ok, not a leprechaun, a baby. He looked like a leprechaun though.

It was one of those family events where there’s a new baby and everyone takes it in turns to do a dumb face and make funny noises so the baby smiles, and everybody’s happy and isn’t our family great even though we’ve had our differences and he looks like you, no he looks like you, let’s just say he looks like all of us and ooh look he’s drooling agai...

What really happens at a big fat Greek wedding

Ever wondered what really happens at a big fat Greek wedding?

No?

Well…um, I’m gonna tell you anyway. So you may as well pretend you have.

Oh, and before I begin let’s just get one thing out of the way – we don’t smash plates. Sorry to be the one to shatter that particular illusion, but there you go.

Anyway, the wedding!

The “Dressing” Ceremony

This is a traditional thing, although not everyone does it. Basically, on the morning of the wedding the Maid of Honour/Best Man dress the Bride/Groom respe...

Disconnect

At a gig the other day I was asked why so many comedians seem to be getting in trouble with jokes that “go too far”. (The fact I was having this conversation with an audience member either says a lot about my set or a lot about that particular audience member, but that’s a post for another time)

Anyway, the more I thought about it, the more one word kept coming to mind – disconnect.

The way I see it, a big problem is the disconnect between the idea of the subject of a joke, and the reality of i...

You’ll get square eyes looking at that…

I went to prison the other day.

Not as a ‘guest’ or anything, although that would probably sound a lot cooler than the real reason (research for a book). Walking through the corridors, my first thought wasn’t Dostoevsky’s quote about judging a society by its prisons, but ‘Hey! This place looks like the jail in Prison Break’. I then glazed over and spent a good five minutes trying to work out how Michael, Lincoln and T-Bag could possibly have made it out in one piece.

Welcome to the 21st century...

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!

Pretty soon this place will be full of, um, words.

So…yeah…

That’s it really.

Ok, stop looking at me now.
