MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY MOMENT_MOVING PAST FEAR
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."2 Timothy 1:7
HEALTHY THINKING
Have you ever been so scared of something that you could not think straight? You were facing a situation that you know you needed to handle, but you just couldn't deal with it. Ignoring it won't make it go away, but the possibilities of the outcome terrified you. Fear can be so deeply rooted that it paralyzes us, causing us to become inactive...not making a move or decision one way or the other. And as we all know that can be more devastating than the situation itself.

THANKFUL THURSDAY
Last night I was thinking of writing one of my Throwback Thursday posts. I was unsure which year I would reflect on, but I knew that was what I was going to do. Those posts are always a lot of fun as we remember when. But this morning after spending time with my Father, my direction changed. I simply want to express gratitude. Take a peek »

WRITER WEDNESDAY_GAME ON
My life? My life has been protected to some extent and yet has caused me to endure more pain and hardship than a little bit. Life isn't always a bowl of roses, and it doesn't have that perfect fairytale ending. People have ups and downs, they are discouraged and lost, and they are victorious and champions. We're blessed when we have more of the latter than the former. But there is a lesson in it all. And when we learn to rise above our limitations and stand strong, we can be victorious.
My writings focus on everyday challenges people face. Topics range from domestic violence to women's insecurities. I strive to reach as many people as possible, to let them know they are not alone in this world. Despite their circumstances or situations, they can and will rise up with belief in self and faith.
I believe people are in desperate need of help. Portraying real life situations with real people my readers can connect with is my aim. In the end, my characters will grow and learn to overcome. Their situations do not always have a fairy tale ending; however, they do find a way to rise above the adversity. If I can show readers that they too can do this and sometimes in a non-traditional way, I have reached my goal.
Here's an excerpt from my upcoming novel BeJeweled: The Flight of an Angel:
CHAPTER 17: GAME ON
“I need just two more weeks and I will have it together…I know I said that last week, but I just started a new job and I will have income in two weeks. Please Mr. Clay. Alright, okay, thanks anyway.” Angel clicked the cell phone off and threw it on the couch behind her. Putting her head in her hands she tried to stem the flow of tears that stung her eyes.
“Mommy…mommy whas’ wrong?” TJ asked.
Angel sucked in a deep breath, rubbed the heel of her palms into her eyes, and then blinked rapidly before holding her head up to look at her little boy. His dark chocolate skin, oval shaped face, and medium brown slanted eyes were an exact replica of his father.
“Come here lil’ man,” she said, picking her baby up on her lap. She inhaled the fresh scent of his watermelon scented shampoo she had just washed his hair with. He was the only good thing to come out of her marriage to her husband, Black.
“You sad?” the little three year-old asked his mother.
“Umm, no I’m not sad baby. Mommy just has a lot on her mind. What do you want to do today?” she asked. She didn’t have much money left, but she was determined not to make this little boy suffer.
“Wanna see daddy. Daddy coming home today?”
Angel sighed again. She was tired of lying to her baby. His daddy wasn’t coming back home and she didn’t want to keep getting his hopes up. But she wasn’t quite sure how to tell him that his whole world had shifted and would never be the same again. All because his daddy couldn’t keep his pants zipped. Every time Angel thought about finding Black with Kianna she became angry all over again. The only thing she wanted to do was snatch Kianna bald and rip Black’s penis off his body. That one little member of his body had brought her so much pleasure and so much pain the duration of their relationship.
“Well baby Daddy isn’t coming home today. Daddy has a new place to stay now.”
“Why? We gonna stay with Daddy?”
“Um no little man. Daddy is staying with…with a friend of his now. So it’s just you and me. But I promise we’re gonna have so much fun and Daddy will see you from time to time.”
TJ started crying to Angel’s chagrin. He wanted his father and nothing she said to him would change that.
“Baby sit right here. I’m gonna call Daddy and see if he can come over today okay? Please don’t cry…it makes mommy cry when you cry.”
With that announcement TJ stopped crying and wiped his face on his shirtsleeve.
“I’ll be right back. You sit here and watch TV.” Angel changed the TV to a cartoon channel and took her phone to the bedroom she had once shared with her husband.
Dear God, help me humble myself to call this man so my baby can be okay, Angel thought to herself. She dialed Black’s number and felt the butterflies doing a number on her stomach. She hated calling him because she didn’t know if he would be with her or not. The worst part was not knowing how he would react when she called. Sometimes they could almost make it through a phone call and sometimes it ended in a shouting and screaming match, with her crying when all was said and done. She couldn’t do that with TJ in the other room. She had enough on her plate as she thought about her call to Mr. Clay. He wanted the rent money at the beginning of next week and he wasn’t willing to negotiate. She didn’t know where she would get the rent money from, not to mention she had lied…she didn’t have a job, or the prospect of one. If she didn’t have it at the beginning of next week, he would start the eviction proceedings. Her time was running out.
You will want to stay tuned to learn how Angel overcomes her adversities. BEJEWELED: THE FLIGHT OF AN ANGEL COMING IN MAY 2014
