BOOK SPOTLIGHT TUESDAY_PRIVATE SINS
Kelly was in deep trouble; her husband was a pastor and she his loyal first lady. Well she was…until she had an affair with Chris; the first elder of their church. And now she was pregnant with his child. Could she keep the secret from her husband and pretend that all was well? Or should she confess her private sin and let the chips fall where they may?
I was hesitant about reading this story in the beginning.

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY MOMENT_CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN?
Healthy Mind:
"You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships everyday. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity." Epicurus
Oftentimes we go into relationships with an idea of what we want to get out of it, and an ideal way we want it to work out. When things don't go quite the way we think they should, sometimes we're ready to give up and give in. Why? Because this isn't what we bargained for, this isn't what we said we wanted. I'm reminded of an old New Edition Song: "Can You Stand the Rain?"
Nobody said it was going to be all sunny days and bright blue, shining skies. And if he or she did tell you that, then they lied. The reality of it is we engage in relationships with other people...and as people we're only human. Therefore, that individual you are engaging in the relationship with is a flawed human just like you are, with their faults, failings, misgivings, and all. Don't give up on him or her when the going gets tough, instead stand in there and weather the storms together.
The true test of a relationship and your character is when you are able to rise above the challenges and overcome the obstacles. When adversity hits and you stand beside your partner and have his or her back, that's what beautiful relationships are made of. That is what enables your relationship to stand the test of time. If you're going through some fiery times in your relationship today, ask yourself if you have done all that you can to make things better. And finally look at the flaws in the relationship, and failings, and then look at how many fingers are pointing back at you.
HEALTHY BODY:
STEAK DIANE
Ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
6 (4-ounce) beef tenderloin steaks, trimmed (about 1 inch thick)

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons dry sherry

Preparation:
Heat a large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon salt and black pepper evenly over steaks. Add steaks to pan; cook 4 minutes on each side or until desired degree of doneness. Remove from pan; cover and keep warm.
Melt butter in pan over medium heat. Add shallots, and cook 2 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally. Add water and remaining ingredients, stirring with a whisk. Reduce heat, and simmer 1 minute. Stir in the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt. Spoon sauce over steaks and sprinkle with parsley.

FABULOUS FRIDAY
Alright party people! It's another Fab Friday for everyone! I've got some jokes for you all...
1.) A hungry African lion came across two men. One was sitting under a tree and reading a book; the other was typing away on his typewriter. The lion pounced on the man reading the book and devoured him. Even the king of the jungle knows that readers digest and writers cramp.
2.) Three guys are sitting at a bar.
#1: "...Yeah, I make $75,000 a year after taxes."
#2: "What do you do for a living?"
#1: "I'm a stockbroker. How much do you make?"
#2: "I should clear $60,000 this year."
#1: "What do you do?"
#2: "I'm an architect."
The third guy has been sitting there quietly, staring into his beer, when the others turn to him.
#2: "Hey, how much do you make per year?"
#3: "I guess about $13,000."
#1: "Oh yeah? What kind of stories do you write?"
3.) Did you hear the one about the pregnant woman who went into labor and began to yell, "Couldn't! Wouldn't! Shouldn't! Didn't! Can't!? She was having contractions.

TALK IT UP TUESDAY_RUSSIAN ROULETTE W/SEX
I am outraged that in today's society with the education available, social media and other media forms showing a heavy presence in our daily lives, and horror stories abounding that someone could and would knowingly infect others with HIV. Last night I watched a news story where a young college student in St. Charles, MO has been having sexual relations with other individuals and knowingly infecting them with HIV. According to the news report, the student has been filming the acts on his laptop in a dorm room, and failing to use protection.

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY_ASCENDING BEYOND THE STAIRCASE
"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. HEALTHY MIND:
Life is filled with promises, goals, hopes, and dreams. But what happens when your dream or promise seems to be a reach away? What do you do when you're not assured of what happens after you take that next step, or if you're not sure that you have the resources to accomplish the goal? Do you give up? Do you seek help? Do you sit around and wait for the answers?

CELEBRATING THE LEGACY_VOLUNTEER EVENTS
Monday, January 20, 2014 is the observation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. This special day is promoted as a day on and not a day off, encouraging people to give back in volunteer service opportunities. I will not be able to volunteer this year, because I will be watching my son march in a King Day parade. But I didn't forget you. If you're looking for volunteer opportunities in Atlanta or nationwide, I've pulled together a list of opportunities below along with links to find other opportunities.

TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED. IS IT JUST A SAYING?
Yesterday an incident occurred that had me heated. My initial reaction was to snap, but I paused. Why do we allow what others think or say bother us to the point we want to tell them about themselves? Why do we become aggravated when we know words have been twisted and people enjoy entertaining themselves with juicy tidbits of non-factual information?Take a peek »
