SUPERWOMAN TO THE RESCUE_DAY 3 OF THE TOUR
The third and fourth stops on the tour were somewhat challenging at first. I mean, I know I try to be superwoman, but realistically those super powers don't really exist.
My campaign manager challenged me to be in two places at the same time, Atlanta and the paradise Indian Ocean island of St. Mauritius. While I would love to be able to visit the island, realistically it wasn't going to happen.
So, I came back home to my beautiful city of Atlanta, for the book tour at my friend Chicki Brown's place. The solution to my St. Mauritius challenge? VPN to my friend Zee Monodee's place. I know that you'll meet me at both places.

WE ALL NEED A LITTLE GOSSIP IN OUR LIVES_WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS
This is my third weekend on Weekend Warriors. I have enjoyed hopping around to the blogs of other authors over the last couple of weekends. I've been exposed to other genres that I haven't read before. But it's been fun and interesting, and I look forward to doing it again.
The last couple of weeks, I shared my 8 sentence snippet with Angel and Black, from BeJeweled: The Flight of an Angel. The #8 Sunday continues this week again, as we enter into The House of BeJeweled.
As we know there is usually always gossip or drama going on in the beauty salon. The House of BeJeweled is no different. In this excerpt, we get a glimpse of salon owner, Olivia, taking a break from her administrative tasks. She steps into the salon away from her office and walks into a little gossip. What she hears isn't necessarily in line with her views on life. Welllll, I'll let you see what happens next:
She closed the accounts payable software on her laptop and released a deep sigh. She had to do something different, something that required little thought. After a moment she knew exactly what she needed…a little beauty shop gossip. She walked to the hair salon area and sat in her empty chair, and watched Tyrone’s antics as he told a story about his latest flopped romance.
“…that he was married! Can you believe that? I don’t mess with married men and how dare he wait to tell me about that,” Tyrone said with a look of exasperation on his face.“Umm, since when Tyrone, before or after the police officer?”

FASHION FRIDAY FOTOS!
By now, I'm sure you've heard that BeJeweled: The Flight of an Angel is so much more than a book about the beauty salon. It's about faith, forgiveness, friendship, healing and love. Perhaps more than that, it's about a journey on the road to empowerment.
But I'm taking it back into the salon today. It's all about the hair! I love Indie Arie's song, "I Am Not My Hair."
It truly describes the way that I feel in my later years. Something majestic happened when I turned 40 last year. Something marvelously miraculous occurred.
I have embraced me, I am loving me, and I'm living life as me! For so long I battled with one hairstyle after the other. And it wasn't until I went natural in my 39th year that I finally felt free. I no longer felt restricted by society's views of who I should be. No matter whether I wear my hair long, short, curly, or nappy (yes I said nappy...cuz that's my reality girlfriend), or braided, or permed, MY BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL! Recently I cut it and I'm now wearing it in a short afro!

THROWBACK THURSDAY_1996
Marvelous MarvThe year was 1996 and it was the year that I first started dating the man that was to become my husband...Marvelous! That was a beautiful year, the Olympics came to Atlanta and there was a sense of brotherhood and unity throughout the city. Peace resonated wherever we went, and harmony exuded from the clusters of people. One of the major things that marred that year was the bombing at Centennial Olympic Park, by Eric Rudolph, which injured hundreds of people, claimed one life, and another died from a heart attack. The city came together in a spirit of unity and would not allow the acts of one evil person to blot out the love shared and history being made that summer. The other major news, for me anyway, was that Tupac Shakur was killed. I was devastated along with hundreds of thousands of other fans.
Other major news that shocked the nation, was the finding of little JonBenet Ramsey, beauty pageant queen, murdered in her parents basement.
In 1996 I was making my own history, as I was getting to know my then future husband better. I spent every possible moment with him all over the city.

I've packed my bags and I'm ready to go! The road is calling my name, and I'll be out for almost a month.

THE CODE OF THE STREETS_WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS
Last weekend on Weekend Warriors, I shared an excerpt from BeJeweled: The Flight of an Angel, my newest novel. In a bedroom scene at two thirty in the morning, Angel's husband Black had just returned home from prowling the streets. In last week's excerpt she shared with him her frustration and pain from the mistreatment she suffered at his hands.
But as is true with a hustler/ a man of the streets, he has a certain code he upholds. And that code doesn't always allow him to take responsibility of his actions, when he knows he's in the wrong. Let's take a look...
Black licked full dark brown lips and squinted eyes red from smoking a blunt, “Come here, girl. I’m so damned sorry,” he said, pulling her into his arms. “I don’t mean to hurt you, I really don’t. I need you to feel strong, s’all I meant to do is build you strong, girl. But you gotta learn to trust me. I know what I’m doin’, cuz I’m ‘bout mine.
