Spring cleaning, yes. But before you file everything away—the drafts of the manuscript that you abandoned halfway or couldn’t sell or decided that you hate or one that bombed—take a minute and sit with it. Literally.

Remind yourself: I made this. Whatever it is. And it took all these drafts—all this work, all these days, these hours, these pages, these words. So much of it done completely alone.

Because if you don’t hold onto it, no one else will. And, in truth, it’s only the doing that any of us ever really have. 💗

The woman in the water over my shoulder is named Annie. Annie is confident that in the next six months she can finally teach me to swim with my actual face in the water. Something that the 5 swim coaches who have come before her have been unable to do.

I hope so. Because I barely made it through my last triathlon with my version of swimming—let’s call it drowning frog; which is exactly as hot as it sounds. And this race is twice as long.

So pray for me. But also probably pray for Annie. Because I am deeply terrified, irrationally impatient and also very controlling. (Unlike, say, the amiable, malleable small children she’s there teaching in the lesson before mine.)

To anyone else out there trying to do something today way outside you’re comfort zone — I see you. And I believe enough for the both of us. 💕
