Dietary Help For ED
Preventing and Treating ED
In my research, I’ve found that when you give the body the right tools, it can heal itself and do miraculous things.
I know there are all kinds of natural foods you can add to the diet, in order to provide those tools. I am going to expand on those, in this article.
A serious problem today with men is Erectile Dysfunction, also known as ED. One survey (1) found that 50% of men aged 40 and up had ED, and another (2) found that 33% of men aged 50 and up complained of having ED in the past 3 months. This can affect men mentally (depression and anxiety), relationship-wise, and certainly with their health.
Pharmaceutical drugs (Check the side affects of any pharmaceutical drugs you are taking. ED is a main side affect of many commonly prescribed pharmaceutical drugs.), heart disease, obesity, diabetes, older age, smoking, alcohol, high blood pressure, stress, and a sedentary lifestyle all increase the risk of ED. (3) Studies show that 70% of all erectile dysfunction caused by non-psychological factors is due to blood vessel problems and diabetes. (4)
In fact, the first sign of heart disease is sexual dysfunction. (5)
More seriously, men who have ED are 70% more likely to die prematurely than men without ED. (6)
A 2-year study took men with ED and placed them on a high fiber diet of fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats (a Mediterranean diet), and the results were better erections. (7)
I listen to men talk about how they crave steak, chicken, fish, and burgers, in order to be bulked up or to be a manly man. The Paleo diet has been all the rage. These ‘manly’ foods are actually producing the exact opposite of what manly parts need to be functional.
To prevent and treat erectile dysfunction, try making the choice to cut down or eliminate steak, burgers, hot dogs, and chicken wings. Try adding fresh fruits and vegetables, grilled Portobello mushrooms, sprouted lentils, quinoa and beans to your eating plan, and see what a difference that makes.
Look beyond TV commercials and stereotypes of masculinity. Research shows us that it’s the healthy, fresh, whole vegetarian foods that actually boosts the best sexual function throughout your lifetime.
A more vegetarian diet can do amazing things for your health and it can be delicious!
(You might want to read my book: How To Be A Healthy Vegetarian (second edition). I have taught many Texas men, including Larry Hagman – Aka- J. R. Ewing from the show Dallas, how to love being a vegetarian and enjoy the food.)
There is also a fairly new product on the market that I have understood has helped some men taking it with more health and vitality!
It was developed for joint health, but because it helps restore ligament and tendon health as well as hydration for the whole body on a deep cellular level, apparently it does a lot more than just that.
I’ve talked to a few women, whose husbands have taken this supplement for more than a year, and they have mentioned that it has helped with their love life as well as helping relieve the joint pain and dry skin.
Click here to see the supplement website.
If you wish to order it, order wholesale, put it on auto ship and you will save over $50 a month. I only recommend taking it if you are going to stick with it for at least 3 to 6 months. It takes it time to work and everyone is different.
I actually take this supplement myself, because it helped my back and hip joint become pain-free from scoliosis.
I take the Life Blend. It’s a liquid I drink 2 ounces two times a day.
I call it my fountain of youth supplement, because it helps me feel younger, look younger and live free of pain in my joints and bones. The side affects of this supplement are that your skin will start being less dry, thicker, and more youthful.
It’s also great for athletes, because it helps with endurance and recovery and is approved by the NSF.
I wish you a life filled with joy, laughter, and true health!

Kick off May With A New Program For Health & Vitality!
Kick off May With A New Program For Health & Vitality!
As we leave the cooler weather and head into the warmer months, we want to be our healthiest, and have radiance from the inside out. We may also wish to get into shape for wearing our swimsuit and have the vitality to enjoy it!
So, where to start?
Eating locally grown, fresh organic foods has many benefits for health and weight loss. When we get healthier, the weight usually adjusts itself.
Local, fresh, organic food that has been ripened on the tree or vine is packed with salvestrols that have natural cancer-fighting properties and more nutrients. For example, Vitamin C and sulfur are two critical nutrients that are very fragile and that often get damaged in storage, packing, and transport
Our bodies are meant to have seasonal foods. Fruits with high water content are perfectly suited for the summertime, whereas a warm, savory root veggie soup is more comforting in cold winter months.
As the growing season blossoms this May, foods in season are: arugula, asparagus, blueberries, Brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, greens, mushrooms, onions, potatoes, peaches, radishes, and strawberries.
Find a local farmer’s market and enjoy a weekend outing to stock up on fresh food for the week and meet a local farmer.
You can look up Farmer’s Markets near you by using the Local Harvest website: http://www.localharvest.org/farmers-markets/
and the National Resources Defense Council’s Local Food. The NRDC website: https://www.nrdc.org/issues/local-food-systems to see what markets are near you.
If you want to see what is in season in your area each month, check out the Field to Plate’s Seasonal Lookup Guide http://www.fieldtoplate.com/guide/.
By eating more fresh, whole, organic food in its natural form, you can restore your health, vitality, and a healthy weight.
This can be as simple as having a diet that is 80 percent whole, raw unprocessed food. It can have life-changing results.
Whole, raw foods will feed the body on a deep, cellular level without stressing it as much as cooked food does. This food really feeds the cells in the body.
People who consume fresh, uncooked foods find they don’t need to eat as much and they feel more satisfied. I think it is because their body is truly getting what it needs.
Cooked and processed foods are dead. They don’t supply any live enzymes. When foods are devoid of living enzymes, it means that the body has to work much harder. and it also has to supply more of its own stored enzymes to digest the foods.
I look at people who live on processed foods. Many have terrible weight problems, diabetes, or cancer. I feel they are quite literally “starving” to death. Their body is not getting the nutrients it needs to function properly. They always feel hungry, and they always have strong cravings for more food. Their body is crying out for nourishment.
Consuming more raw fruits and vegetables, which are naturally low in calories and rich in nutrients, can make you feel really satisfied.
I just took a group down to Nicaragua for a Rejuvenation Retreat that Charlotte Ammerman and I hold a few times a year. It includes healthy cooking classes almost every day.
A couple of the people told me they had worried about being hungry on the seven-day trip. One person even brought food, just in case!
But they were all amazed at how delicious the food was, and how full and satisfied they felt on the trip. Some participants lost more than seven pounds without even trying. They simply ate fresh, locally grown plant-based foods, prepared in the healthiest way.
If you are wondering what a vegetarian meal would look like, my book, second edition of How to Be a Healthy Vegetarian has more than 115 easy recipes.
One big reason that fresh, whole plant-based foods are so beneficial to health is because they are high in fiber. Fiber adds bulk to your diet and fills you up more effectively than refined, processed foods.
Eating more fiber rich foods can help control your appetite so you take in fewer calories. Studies show that a diet that is high in fiber, made up of fresh fruits and veggies, can also help the body reverse diabetes (including type one!).(1
So, buy a rainbow of colorful, fresh, organic fruits and veggies for your meals this month. Give your body the nutrients it needs to create the health and vitality you desire.
Our body is our temple. Let’s honor that temple and give it the quality food it truly deserves. In this way, you will have radiant health from the inside out!

Petition To EPA To Ban Neonicotinoid Poisons
Happy Earth Day!!!
Thank you SO much for signing my petition and helping make a statement to the EPA
to ban the neonicotinoid poisons!
Friday, April 22, 2016, at 10 AM, I met with Eugene Thilsted of the EPA and presented the petition with 167,656 supporters signatures!
The European Union has already banned neonicotinoids, and it is now time for the United States to follow suit. We are calling on the EPA to implement a US ban immediately, before it is too late.
Neonicotinoids have been used in seeds that cover more than 150 million acres — that is the size of California and Washington combined. In one incident, over 37 million bees died after one corn crop was planted with the toxin.
Crops and food prices have already taken a hit because of record-breaking droughts. Add colony collapse disorder to the mix, and our tables will soon be empty of the fruits and vegetables we’ve come to count on.
Do we want to leave our children and grandchildren a world without bees?
The stakes are too high, and we owe it to them to take action now.

Plant Based Diet Is A Powerful Treatment For Diabetics
Plant Based Diet
Is A Powerful Treatment For Diabetics
More than 100 million people today have diabetes or pre-diabetes. A recent study conducted by a team of American and Japanese researchers shows that people who have diabetes can vastly improve their health by eating an entirely plant-based diet. (1) During my work with people who have diabetes, I have found that they show remarkable improvement in their health and well-being from consuming a plant-based, and almost completely raw food diet.
Dr. Gabriel Cousens promotes a mostly raw food, vegan diet in his book, There Is A Cure For Diabetes, which he published in 2008. (2)
Researchers have done a meta-analysis (considered the highest level of scientific evidence), in which they compared six significant prior research studies, and they found that a plant-based diet significantly improved blood sugar control in Type-2 diabetes. The results were that plant-based diets improved a key indicator of blood sugar control. The blood sugar control indicator is called Hemoglobin A1c. The results improved as much as 1.2 points, which is much greater than the effect of typical oral diabetes medicines. (3)
The new study focused on combining the results of all of the available studies. The benefits of excluding meat, cheese, and eggs from the diet was as much as 0.7 points in some studies, and averaged 0.4 points overall. (4) This study also focused on long-term effects. Participants in most of these studies were not required to reduce their calorie or carbohydrate consumption. (5)
Diabetics who would like to reduce their medications can now understand that the type of food that they are consuming DOES have a direct impact on their health.
This new study is published in Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy. It is called “Vegetarian Diets and Glycemic Control in Diabetes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis”.

Cut Cancer Risk By Two-Thirds Just By Eating Delicious Mushrooms!

Cut Cancer Risk By Two-Thirds
Just By Eating Delicious Mushrooms!
According to a study conducted by The University of Western Australia in Perth, eating mushrooms daily may reduce breast cancer risk by nearly two thirds. The study, conducted in China, looked at more than 2000 women, half of whom had suffered from breast cancer.
Researchers found the women who ate a third of an ounce of fresh mushrooms every day had lowered their risk of developing a tumor by 64%.
Dried mushrooms didn’t have quite the same benefit, but still reduced the risk “by around half.”
The study also found that the women who regularly drank green tea, combined with their daily serving of fresh mushrooms, reduced their risk by 90%.
When reporting this study in 2009, The Telegraph went on to say that animal tests show mushrooms have “anti-tumor properties and can stimulate the immune system’s defenses.” Mushrooms might accomplish this by blocking “the body’s production of the hormone oestrogen, which can encourage the development of cancer.”
As the author of How to Be a Healthy Vegetarian, I promote a plant-based diet. A vegetarian diet “provides a variety of cancer-protective dietary factors,” according to a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. A vegetarian diet reduces obesity.
This study’s author notes that obesity increases cancer risk, and that because the Body Mass Index (BMI) “of vegans is considerably lower than that of non-vegetarians,” a plant-based diet “may be an important protective factor for lowering cancer risk.”
Mushrooms are low in calories and are 80–90% water, which makes them a great substitute for meat when you want to cut calories.
Mushrooms have been studied extensively for their health benefits because they have been found to aid the immune system. These dense, smooth, earthy fungi grow in thousands of varieties, and most of them are rich in potassium, selenium, copper, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, and B-complex vitamins. One medium Portobello mushroom has more potassium than a small banana.
Five medium cremini mushrooms have more selenium than a large egg or three ounces of lean beef. Plus, the copper in mushrooms helps you make red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout your body.
Mushrooms are an excellent source of the antioxidants known as polyphenols, selenium, and ergothioneine. Ergothioneine is a master antioxidant, an amino acid containing sulfur. Sulfur is an extremely important nutrient, yet it is often overlooked.
There are many varieties of mushrooms, thousands of which are poisonous, so do not pick them in the wild. Always buy them from a reliable and reputable supplier. Look for mushrooms that are smooth, clean, and fresh in appearance.
To clean them, use a soft mushroom brush or wet paper towel to remove any parts that look dirty or mushy. You can rinse them, but do not soak them.
Keep them refrigerated in the original container until you’re ready to use them. They can keep up to a week in the refrigerator in a porous paper bag, but never put mushrooms in an airtight container and never freeze them.
Always trim the end of the stem before you use mushrooms. If the stems are too tough, just use the caps.
Adding mushrooms to dishes is easy. Thinly slice them for salads, pasta dishes, and sandwiches—or serve them as a side dish.
Grilling them is always great, and mushrooms make a tasty and healthy alternative to a burger. I love to sauté them with onions and butter to bring out the rich flavor of savory mushrooms.
Each mushroom has a different flavor, so experiment by trying different varieties.

Avocado – A Perfect Food!
Avocado – A Perfect Food!
I’m celebrating with the color green this month, in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day, so I’m going to write about avocados!
Avocados are a super powerhouse food! This fruit is packed with nutritional benefits and has a delicious creamy rich flavor.
What could be better?
Why are avocados so healthy for us?
First of all, they contain monounsaturated fat, which is a “good fat.” According to the Harvard School of Public Health, “Unsaturated fats are called good fats because they can improve blood cholesterol levels, ease inflammation, stabilize heart rhythms, and play a number of other beneficial roles.” (1)
Back when the food and nutrition industry started to promote that fat was bad, they said it caused weight gain and heart disease. They started promoting low fat foods. When they did this, people started getting really fat, and Alzheimer’s skyrocketed.
According to Harvard, in the 1960s, fats and oils supplied Americans with about 45 percent of calories; about 13 percent of adults were obese, and under 1 percent had type 2 diabetes, a serious weight-related condition.
Today, those numbers have more than doubled, Americans take in less fat, getting about 33 percent of calories from fats and oils; yet 34 percent of adults are obese, and 11 percent have diabetes, most with type 2 diabetes. (2)
Fat is critical to our brain health, our energy levels, and our well-being. It also makes our food taste savory. When food companies started taking the savory flavor of natural fat out of food, they had to make it taste good somehow. So, they started adding sugar and refined salt. Sugar and refined salt can harm the body even more than the normal fat levels would.
Also, our body craves those good fats to function properly and give us energy. The bad fats are trans fats, meaning fats that have been changed in their molecular form, and saturated animal fats.
The good fats are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which “do just the opposite of the bad trans fats. They are good for the heart and most other parts of the body.” (3)
Avocados provide good, unsaturated fats, but they also give us so much more. Avocados are a nutritional powerhouse providing many health benefits.
Avocados provide protein, approximately four grams per fruit. They are very low in sugar. Avocados are an excellent source of potassium, and they are rich in vitamins K, B, C, and E.
One avocado has approximately 11 grams of fiber, which is almost half of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) recommended by the FDA.
Studies conducted using people with metabolic syndrome (which is named for a group of people at risk for diabetes, stroke and coronary heart disease), published in The Nutrition Journal, showed that after a week of following the avocado-enriched diet, the patients experienced a 22 percent decrease in bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels and an 11 percent increase in good cholesterol.(4)
The researchers concluded that “avocado consumption is associated with improved overall diet quality, nutrient intake, and reduced risk of metabolic syndrome.”(5)
If that isn’t enough to make you a fan of avocados, they are also high Avocatin B. Avocatin B is reported to help prevent the development of certain cancers.
According to Prof. Paul Spagnuolo, of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, in the journal Cancer Research. “Using a high-throughput cell-based screen to assess the effects of avocatin B on human leukemia stem cells, the researchers found the compound selectively targets and destroys them while leaving healthy blood cells unscathed. Not only does avocatin B eliminate the source of AML (Acute myeloid Leukemia), but its targeted, selective effects make it less toxic to the body, too,” Prof. Spagnuolo explains. (6)
In conclusion, healthy fat, like the fat in avocados, is essential for every cell in our body. It can support our brain, boost our immune system, increase our nutrient absorption and create a glowing complexion.
So, if you want to have optimum health, eat an avocado once in a while and know you are providing essential nutrients the body needs.

Ok, Now add it to a recipe!
Sprout Sandwich
This is a yummy sandwich I have enjoyed since I was a teenager.
I grew up eating sprouts and butter sandwiches. Now I add avocado instead of the butter.
If you won’t be eating the sandwich right away, stop the avocado from turning dark by wrapping the sandwich tightly to keep out the air, or mash the avocado with a little lemon juice. You may want to put it in the refrigerator until you are ready to eat it.
Ingredients:
1 avocado, peeled, pitted and sliced
2 slices soft, whole, sprouted-grain bread of choice
unrefined sea salt
½–1 c. sprouts of choice (alfalfa, broccoli, etc.)
Directions:
Mash avocado.
Toast bread if desired.
Spread some avocado on each slice of bread.
Sprinkle with sea salt.
Heap sprouts on top of avocado.
Cover with the other piece of bread.
Remember, the main ingredient
is always love!

A Hug For You!
The Power Of A Hug!
As Valentine’s Day draws near, I am reminded of a story that I read in 1995 about twin baby girls. When they were born on October 17, 1995, they were premature by 12 weeks and were put in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Medical Center in Central Massachusetts in Worcester.
As a standard practice of the hospital, the babies were placed into separate incubators in order to reduce the risk of infection. One baby, Kyrie, was much larger than her sister Brielle, who only weighed two pounds at her birth.
Kyrie slept well and was healthily gaining weight, but her smaller sister Brielle, was having trouble breathing and had low levels of oxygen in her blood. She also had low weight gain and problems with her heart rate. Everyone was deeply concerned, especially a particular nurse named Gayle Kasparian, who was trying everything she could think of to help Brielle.
On November 12th, Brielle had an emergency health situation. She started gasping for air and turning a gray-blue color. She got the hiccups and her heart rate went way up. Everyone was afraid Brielle would not survive.
In desperation, Nurse Kasparian remembered a common procedure that a fellow colleague had mentioned to her once. It was common practice in most of Europe, but was not done in this country. It was the practice of placing newborn multiple-birth babies in the same bed together. They called it double-bedding.
She was not able to ask permission from her manager, because she was away and unable to be reached, so she asked the parents’ permission to put the girls together in one bed, to see if it would help. They agreed. Nurse Kasparian broke the rules and placed the larger baby in the same crib with her smaller baby sister, who was now in extreme danger of dying.
The moment they were together, Brielle immediately snuggled up to her sister and within minutes, Brielle’s readings for her blood and oxygen were better than they had been since her birth. Kyrie gently put her arm around Brielle. It was such a beautiful hug.
In the article I read, they called it a rescuing hug. It was a very powerful hug. Being together had quite literally saved Brielle’s life. It wasn’t much later that the parents were able to take both girls home, because they were both thriving.
Nurse Kasparian did not get in trouble. In fact, the practice of double-bedding multiple births is now a standard practice at the hospital. Sometimes, breaking the rules can lead to changes in old antiquated practices. It takes courage and a strong heart to do what you believe in.
So, as we lead our busy lives, we need to remember to stay connected, and to be loving and caring and kind to others. You can literally save another’s life, just by being there for them.
Hug your loved ones, listen to what they have to say, and reach out with the most precious gift you can give, the gift of you.
You may never know how much of an impact you might have on another’s life, but remember, ”To the world you may just be someone, but to someone you may be the whole world”.
Have a joyful and loving February.
I am sending a hug to each and every one of you.
Love, Nancy

What people are saying
about the retreat:
What a fabulous week! It was a “Trip of a life time”.
Nicaragua and the Emerald Coast were so magical! Not only did we have fabulous food, adventures and a wonderful time; we all were blessed to have three incredible rainbows. In the evening the stars were spectacular. We saw the Milky Way. I have not seen that in over 20 years!
Also, the wild life in the forest was a treat! We saw monkeys, turtles, fish, crabs, white squirrels, eagles, many beautiful birds and donkeys and cattle crossing the roads right in front of us. The nature in Nicaragua was beautiful!
Wasn’t ready to go home after 7 days. Wish I could have stayed longer!
Being with Nancy Addison on one her Nutritional Retreats in Nicaragua was a blessing for me. She is a terrific teacher and food expert! Actually “mind/body” wellness would better describe the week. Learning to breathe, relax, meditate as well as taking time in life to choose what we put in our mouths and to prepare it!
Nancy is truly amazing. She has the patience and experience to listen and to teach people how to eat a healthier and balanced diet! Teaching our group how to eat healthy with fresh and organic foods and showing our group how to prepare and make healthy meals! Everyone has health and diet issues and she was able to balance those needs specifically to each person on the retreat.
Nancy has written wonderful books with the recipes included to help people with all sorts of diet and lifestyle needs. Having to plug back into the real world and the time restrictions we all have – Nancy showed us how to balance our diets and to listen to our bodies more.
I would highly recommend anyone to read her books, go on one of her retreats, or contact her for improving ones health and diet!
Thank you Nancy!
With Love,
Mary Jo Rausch
