Patreon

Hello, my fellow adventurers!

In addition to the books I’ve released over the past year, I’ve started putting exclusive series on Patreon. Each week I post a chapter. The best part: the lowest tier is $1/month. That’s $12/year, less than the cost of a print book, and yet you get instant access to all of my short stories and novellas as well as my weekly exclusive stories and patron-only goodies. Be sure to join the fun!

Camp NaNoWriMo April 2020

I couldnt help but take part in Camp NaNoWriMo! I got a huge chunk of my fantasy romance, A Different Kind of Magic, written! If things keep going at this pace, Im hoping this book will be out later this year. Ill keep you posted!

Participating in these events is a lot of fun and helpful for me to make sure Im sticking to my daily writing goals. Ive found that the writing community is full of lots of encouraging and cool people who are more than willing to give advice and feedback. If you are...

Trying Freebies

Last week I made The Three free in ebook format for three days (see what I did there?) to see how it would do. Obviously, I want to be making money on my books, but for me to build credibility with readers and Amazon to start showing off my books to customers, I need reviews. I mean, very few people will buy something that isnt reviewed. Theyd rather go with something that other people have tried out and found to be good, or at least decent. That was why I had a number of people who were...

Support Indie Authors

Indie authors, artists, filmmakers, etc do what they can to follow their passions and create, whatever that looks like. I thought it might be helpful to give a little insight on some ways you can support indie authors in more ways than just buying books.

Leave reviews places like Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Goodreads, etc.Reviews are very helpful! Not only do they tell us what you liked and what we can work on, but they also help us get exposure. Amazon starts to show off books that have 50...

Favorite Writing Advice

People always love to give their opinions. Ive heard a mix of great and terrible advice when it comes to writing, but today I want to focus on my personal favorites that Ive found helpful.

Write what you want, not what the hottest trend is.Dont get me wrong here: its important to know your audience, and if what you love writing happens to be whats currently popular, go for it! I believe that it shows when the author is passionate about what theyre creating.Discipline is better than...

Proofreading

Recently, Ive been doing proofreads for a few author friends of mine. Considering that hiring an editor can sometimes be out of budget, this is a popular way for indie authors to get corrections for their work without breaking the bank. It definitely takes a good portion of time, but swapping stories with authors can be beneficial for both parties. Besides, editing someone elses work can help you see what you can work on for your own projects. Or maybe reading their work can inspire you to...

Take Care of Yourself

This blog post is going to be a little short because I pushed myself too hard trying to get a lot done in a small amount of time… and hurt myself. I have been struggling with pain in my wrists on and off for a few months, but I didn’t let myself rest like I should have. “The Three” has been the project I’ve been pushing to get out for the past year, and now that control is back in my hands, I didn’t manage my time, instead thinking that I could pack two full rounds of edits within a week....

Editing Options for Self-Publishers

Let’s face it: it’s really easy to wrack up a huge bill when it comes to publishing a book. I mean, you can pay for writing software, an editor, a cover artist, a map designer, ISBNs, author copies, marketing ads… All of this makes it really hard for self-published authors to make money.

So, then how do we fix that? I thought I’d share some ideas on how to lessen costs without compromising your book’s quality. Let’s start this week with editing.

Freelance Editors

Professional editors might be...

Marketing is Simple, but Not Easy

I’ve heard all sorts of responses when people find out that I’m an author. The most annoying is when people tell me that it’s easy. Like most anything, there are easier parts. For me, actually writing the book is the “easy” part. So are things like dreaming up the ideas and coming up with the book titles. Then you have the slightly tedious things like editing, revising, and formatting that can get frustrating. The absolute hardest thing for me is marketing.

Think about it: you have a product,...

“Worth Fighting For” and Other Projects

Hello! I hope your week went well. I’ve been busy with putting final touches on Worth Fighting For as well as working on some other projects. Yes, I have a lot in the works!

(For those of you who are interested, Worth Fighting For is a Norse Mythology retelling as a romance novella. It’s available on Amazon, Kindle Unlimited, and Patreon.)

I’ve found that authors tend to get a lot of ideas for stories (obviously not all of them good), and that makes it hard to focus on one project at a time....
