Breaking: Megan Rapinoe’s Career Coming to an End | The Gateway Pundit | by Maire Clayton, The Western Journal

U.S. Women’s National Team soccer player Megan Rapinoe announced Saturday she will be retiring at the end of the National Women’s Soccer League season.

“It is with a deep sense of peace & gratitude that I have decided this will be my final season playing this beautiful game,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I never could have imagined the ways in which soccer would shape & change my life forever, but by the look on this little girl’s face, she knew all along.”

“I’ve been able to have such an incredible career, and this game has brought me all over the world and allowed me to meet so many amazing people,” Rapinoe told reporters at a press conference, according to CNN.

The 38-year-old added, “I feel incredibly grateful to have played as long as I have, to be as successful as we’ve been, and to have been a part of a generation of players who undoubtedly left the game better than they found it.”

Rapinoe said leaving on her own terms “is incredibly special.”

The soccer star was a member of the gold medal team for the London 2012 Olympics and was named Best FIFA Women’s Player in 2019.

U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski commented on Rapinoe’s departure.

“She has produced so many memorable moments for her team and the fans on the field that will be remembered for a very long time, but her impact on people as a human being may be even more important,” Andonovski said.

“It’s been a wonderful experience to coach her in the NWSL and for the National Team and I’m looking forward to her being an important part of our team at the World Cup.”

The 38-year-old is often known for her off-the-field antics and outspoken politics.

She was among the first to join former NFL player Colin Kaepernick in kneeling for the national anthem in 2016.

In April the athlete signed a letter opposing a U.S. House bill that would protect females from having to compete against male athletes who identify as female.

President Joe Biden gave Rapinoe the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022.

Rapinoe’s final NWSL regular season game for her team, OL Reign, is set for Oct. 6, according to ESPN.

Prominent cryptocurrency exchange infected with previously unseen Mac malware

Getty Images

Researchers have discovered previously unknown Mac malware infecting a cryptocurrency exchange. It contains a full suite of capabilities, including the ability to steal private data and download and execute new malicious files.

Dubbed JokerSpy, the malware is written in the Python programming language and makes use of an open source tool known as SwiftBelt, which is designed for legitimate security professionals to test their networks for vulnerabilities. JokerSpy first came to light earlier this month in this post from the security firm Bitdefender. Researchers for the company said they identified Windows and Linux components, suggesting that versions exist for those platforms as well.

Five days later, researchers for security firm Elastic reported that the diagnostic endpoint protection tool they sell had detected xcc, a binary file that’s part of JokerSpy. Elastic didn’t identify the victim other than to say it was a “prominent Japanese cryptocurrency exchange.”

Once xcc executed, the unknown threat actor attempted to bypass so-called TCC protections in macOS that require explicit permission from a user before an app can access a Mac’s hard drive, contacts, and other sensitive resources or record its screen.

By replacing the existing TCC database with their own, the threat actors were likely trying to suppress alerts that would otherwise appear when JokerSpy runs. In past attacks, threat actors have been able to bypass TCC protections by exploiting vulnerabilities in them. Researchers have also demonstrated attacks that were able to do the same thing.

Threat actor creating/modifying and moving a TCC database, and then executing xcc.

Threat actor creating/modifying and moving a TCC database, and then executing xcc.

The xcc executable checks the TCC permissions and identifies the app the user is currently interacting with. It then downloads and installs sh.py, the main engine for the JokerSpy malware. It contains the usual backdoor capabilities, including:

Advertisement CommandDescriptionskStop the backdoor’s executionlList the files of the path provided as parametercExecute and return the output of a shell commandcdChange directory and return the new pathxsExecute a Python code given as a parameter in the current contextxsiDecode a Base64-encoded Python code given as a parameter, compile it, then execute itrRemove a file or directory from the systemeExecute a file from the system with or without parameteruUpload a file to the infected systemdDownload a file from the infected systemgGet the current malware’s configuration stored in the configuration filewOverride the malware’s configuration file with new values

“Once a system is compromised and infected with malware like JokerSpy, the attacker effectively has a great degree of control over the system,” researchers with macOS security firm Intego wrote on Friday. “With a backdoor, attackers can install additional components in the background and could potentially run further exploits, monitor users’ behavior, steal login credentials or cryptocurrency wallets, and more.”

Researchers still aren’t sure how JokerSpy gets installed. Elastic researchers said they “strongly believe that the initial access for this malware was a malicious or backdoored plugin or 3rd party dependency that provided the threat actor access.” This theory aligns with observations from researchers at Bitdefender who correlated a hardcoded domain found in a version of the sh.py backdoor to a series of tweets about an infected macOS QR code reader that was found to have a malicious dependency. Elastic also said the threat actor it observed already had “existing access” to the Japanese cryptocurrency exchange.

The posts linked above list various indicators that people can use to determine if they’ve been targeted with JokerSpy. Besides cryptographic hashes of various samples of xcc and sh.py, indicators include contact with domains at git-hub[.]me and app.influmarket[.]org. While JokerSpy went undetected by the vast majority of antivirus engines when the malware first came to light, a much wider body of engines is able to identify it now. While there is no confirmation that Windows or Linux versions of JokerSpy exist, people should be aware that’s a distinct possibility.

All you need to know for Amazon’s big sale

Amazon Prime Day 2023 is almost upon us and if you want to know everything about the sale before it kicks off then you’re in the right place.

While Black Friday and, to a lesser extent, the Boxing Day sales bring about some impressive discounts on the latest tech, when it comes to all things Amazon and what the company has stored within its many warehouses, Amazon Prime Day is where it’s at.

The annual sale which now flies in the face of its name by spilling over into several days worth of deals, is designed to give Amazon Prime subscribers the opportunity to save big on any items they may have their eye on, and usually with the type of discounts that would make Black Friday blush.

From our experience, while Black Friday is the better bet when it comes to shopping from multiple retailers (particularly for Christmas shopping), Prime Day is arguably even better if you’re happy to shop solely via Amazon. This is because the online retailer tends to save its best deals for Prime Day so as to give it more weight against November’s Black Friday sale.

As mentioned however, Prime Day does have a barrier to entry in that eager shoppers need to have an active Prime membership to participate. This won’t come as any surprise to long-time subscribers but if you’ve yet to see what Prime is all about then Amazon luckily offers a 30-day free trial so that you can not only make use of the Prime Day sale but also see what other benefits Prime brings to the table.

With all that in mind, let’s dive into the key bits of information that you’ll need to know if you want to make the most out of Prime Day 2023.

When does Prime Day 2023 begin?

Prime Day 2023 will kick off on July 11 at 0:01am UK time. The deals will run for 48 hours with new offers constantly dropping until the event officially wraps up at 11:59pm on July 12. This will include regular deals and more time-sensitive Lightning offers, so make sure you check back regularly if you’re hoping to catch a specific item on sale.

Early Prime Day deals 2023

As always Amazon is building the anticipation for the big day(s) by getting the party started early for Amazon Prime members. You can check out the early risers at www.amazon.co.uk/primeday.

For example, new users can get four-months of free Amazon Music Unlimited and up to 66% off digital movie purchases and rentals from Prime Video. Sticking with the digital theme, there’s three free months of Kindle Unlimited up for grabs, bonus free game offers (including weekly drops of games like Prey, Baldur’s Gate II, Shovel Knight: Showdown, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed).

The company is also offering free three months of Audible and a discount on the Amazon Grocery service.

In terms of devices, from June 21 you can get discounts on Amazon devices including the Echo, Echo Show, Fire TV, Fire Tablet, Kindle and Blink ranges. There’s loads of money to be saved on Amazon Brands’ products too.

How to sign up for Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime memberships cost £8.99 a month or £95 a year. You can sign-up here. New customers get a 30-day free trial.

If you’re not an Amazon Prime member now, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to sign-up for a free trial between now and July 11 regardless of whether you’ve had a membership before.

In fact, Amazon is offering a free month to eligible customers with all of the associated benefits of free one-day delivery and access to loads of digital services right now.

Amazon’s goal here is to generate residual income through Prime memberships and it doesn’t really care if you’re paying for it or not on July 11. Remember it wants you to have these deals!

So, don’t fritter away your savings by paying for a Prime membership in the next few weeks.

Download the Samsung Galaxy S23 wallpapers here

Robert Triggs / Android Authority

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series offers what are likely to be among the best phones in 2023. The Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra are outstanding handsets, but they are not for everyone. Luckily, you can still download the Samsung Galaxy S23 wallpapers and use them on any other device.

All three versions of the Galaxy S23 series come with the same wallpapers, featuring an orb in different colors. These are made to match the available colors of the devices, which are Green, Phantom Black, Lavender, and Cream. And all four available wallpapers come in both blurry and clear versions.

Our friends over at XDA Developers pulled the wallpapers out of the system files, and now you can download them in their full glory.

Download the Samsung Galaxy S23 wallpapers

It’s important to note that you likely don’t want to simply right-click on the images below and use those as wallpapers. These are previews, and have been compressed for better website performance. Instead, use the button right below the previews to download the full-resolution wallpapers.

There are also some One UI 5 wallpapers with colorful geometrical patterns, if you prefer a more fun look.

And there are some DeX mode-specific wallpapers, too. They are nearly the same as the orb wallpapers, but with different orb placement.

All these static wallpapers, as well as the live wallpapers, are available for download through the button right below.

How to set your wallpaper on other devices

Do you need some help setting up your freshly downloaded wallpapers on other phones? We can help you with that.

Again, we’d like to remind you the previews above are compressed, and you can get better-quality images by accessing the download link through the button above. Then transfer the wallpapers to your device using your preferred method. I usually use Google Drive. When the wallpaper is on your phone, follow the steps below to set it as your background.

How to set a wallpaper:Go into the Settings app.Go into Wallpaper & style.Select Change wallpaper.Go into My photos and select the image.Tap on Set wallpaper.Pick whether you want to set the wallpaper on the Lock screen or Home and lock screen. You’re done!

Note: These steps were put together using a Google Pixel 7 running Android 13. Some actions may differ, depending on your hardware and software. Regardless of your device, the process should be very similar, though. We have a complete guide on changing Android wallpapers if you need more detailed instructions and alternative methods.

Are you using any of these Galaxy S23 wallpapers? If you need more alternatives, you can also check out our list of the best default wallpapers from all the popular devices. There’s something for everyone in there.

Black History Month Designers – Where Did U Get That

Spotlighting black designers has been a huge passion of mine (above I’m wearing LaQuan Smith!). I’ve done some previous posts in the past of black designers you should know! In honour of Black History Month, I wanted to spotlight some black designers that you should definitely not be sleeping on!! Although the fashion industry has the 15% pledge (created by Aurora James), there’s still a long way to go. Below are some designers that I’ve been keeping my eye on (and you should too)!

LaQuan SmithBlack History MonthBlack History MonthBlack History MonthBlack History MonthLaquan Smith SS23

Born in Queens, Laquan Smith’s rise to fame came quickly after celebrities started bagging his 3D leggings. Though Laquan Smith’s attempt to break into the fashion industry wasn’t easy (denied by Parsons and FIT), today he’s one of the hottest designers! Those who love sultry and feminine clothing please rejoice!! Laquan’s mission has always been to empower women through his designs (we can’t miss the connection of how his grandmother and many other women were his role model growing up). Does glittery minidresses, leather corsets and edgy bodysuits sound enticing for you? Then take a look at the carousel of his latest pieces – his SS23 collection is his attempt to give women “some air”. He states in his Vogue interview that his collection is “about the female form, about sensuality and femininity, that’s what we’re here to celebrate today”.

Christopher John RogersBlack History MonthBlack History MonthBlack History MonthBlack History MonthChristopher John Rogers Resort 2023

Christopher John Rogers (CJR) is quickly becoming a household name through his “pragmatic glamour” aesthetic designs. One thing you can be sure of when it comes to CJR is that you’ll always be in for some unapologetic drama! However, what critics and buyers love most about his designs is how he has mastered the creation of showstopping pieces without the fuss or complication. In addition, CJR is unafraid to be unconventional by using unusual fabrics and mixing inspirations that seem to oppose each other. In other words, he’s ground-breaking because he’s looking to break any conventional moulds.

Heron PrestonBlack History MonthBlack History MonthBlack History MonthBlack History MonthHeron Preston SS23

The last designer (though there’s so many more!) I’m spotlighting for Black History Month is Heron Preston! If you know the late Virgil Abloh and Matthew Williams, then you’ll definitely know Heron Preston who is the co-founder of the streetwear collective called Been Trill. Preston already boasts of creative acumen being a DJ and artist alongside a designer that graduated from Parsons. After an ocean swim opened his eyes on the polluting effects of the fashion industry, Preston launched a sustainable streetwear brand. He’s one of the few designers that are not afraid to comment on environmental issues, internet youth, and counterfeit culture. We stan!

Your Ideal Solo Date, According to Your Zodiac Sign

Date night with a partner (if you have one) can be fun and special, but sometimes you’re really your own best company. Going on a solo date, whether it’s a low key stroll to your local park to people-watch or an extravagant excursion, is a surefire way to make sure some fun and relaxation is built into your week and a great way to build your confidence and self-esteem. But what to do? There are endless activity options, but just as you can turn to astrology to glean insights into your personality, you can use your zodiac sign to find your next solo date idea. Why to take yourself on solo dates

Making a habit of taking yourself out for some solo time imparts benefits for your mental health and wellness. According to therapist Melissa Divaris Thompson, LMFT, going on solo dates can help you get to know yourself better by offering space and time to introspect and connect with yourself and your emotions, which in turn increases your self-awareness and understanding of yourself. What’s more, actually having the courage to go out alone and be your own entertainment and company helps you build your independence, she says, which in turn can boost your self-confidence.

“These are [outings] where you put yourself and your needs first, and it can also be relaxing and enjoyable at the same time.”—therapist Melissa Divaris Thompson, LMFT

Beyond those benefits, taking yourself out on solo dates is an act of self-care. You’re the one in charge of the date from beginning to end, so it’s all on your terms—no compromising or accommodating another person’s desires, just catering to your own. “These are [outings] where you put yourself and your needs first, and it can also be relaxing and enjoyable at the same time,” says Divaris Thompson.

Her only tips for solo daters? Pick activities you really want to do, not what you think you should be doing. So how do you actually figure out what to do?

For more on solo dates and their benefits, listen to the “Table for One” episode of The Well+Good Podcast:

How your zodiac sign can help you find your ideal solo date

Each sun sign, which corresponds to your birthday, is imbued with specific traits based on its characteristics that inform its likes and dislikes. For example, Taurus is sensual and passionate in part because of its element, earth, but the influence of its ruling planet Venus injects the practical bull with a love of luxury, comfort, and fun.

When looking for your next solo date idea, focusing on your sun sign gives a glimpse into “what each zodiac sign would actually enjoy doing, what would be beneficial to them, and what would make them feel happy,” says Alexandria Lettman, astrologer and founder of spiritual-wellness platform Jupiter Jewel.

Related Stories

Find your zodiac sign below, and read on for insights from Lettman and  Stephanie Gailing, astrologer and author of Astrology: An In Focus Workbook: A Guide to Understanding Yourself Through the Sun, Moon, and Stars, about the star-sanctioned solo date you should plan next.

Your ideal solo date, according to your zodiac signAries

The symbol for the aries zodiac sign, which resembles a ram.

You like to always be in motion, Aries, so a fun time out alone will need to incorporate that. Channel your fiery and active nature into some physical activity that’ll get your adrenaline pumping, such as rollerblading, surfing, or horseback riding. Gailing recommends trying “something where you’re moving, sweating, and really channeling that fire.” If it’s an activity where you can compete against others, all the better—thank your ruling planet, Mars, for your competitive drive.

Taurus

Taurus, your earth element and ruling planet Venus imbue you with a love for all things that tickle the senses. Indulge in a multi-course tasting menu at a restaurant, suggests Lettman. You’ll appreciate the pomp and circumstance of the parade of dishes, and it’s a chance to dress up for the night. “It would push you outside of your comfort zone to take yourself to a restaurant, but once you’re there, you’ll really enjoy being waited on and wined and dined,” she says. Save room for dessert.

Gemini

Thank your ruling planet Mercury and your air element for your gift of the gab and curiosity, Gemini. Make your next solo date “something where your mind is piqued and educated, and where you can have conversations with people,” says Gailing. Get yourself a ticket to an author talk, film discussion, or podcast taping you’d enjoy.

Cancer

You live for comfort, Cancer, and cooking and eating nourishing meals warms your soul, so why not learn how to prepare your own? For your next solo date, Gailing suggests enrolling in a cooking class. Pick your favorite cuisine, and learn how to make a couple dishes. Not keen to get your hands dirty? Fulfill your foodie side with less mess by strolling to your local fancy market and creating your own picnic spread to enjoy at a park.

Leo

Your creativity is boundless, Leo—thank your fire sign energy for that. For your next solo date, Gailing recommends you seek out “something that evokes your own inner artist, and gives it a stage upon which to express itself.” Book a session at a painting or pottery studio to get your creative juices flowing. All the better if it’s a group class—your outgoing spirit and confidence make it easy for you to make new friends, says Lettman.

Virgo

Your sign is associated with the harvest, Virgo, and your earth sign placement bolsters your appreciation and love for all things green. Make a trip to your local botanical garden or flower show your next solo date, says Gailing. Pick out a beautiful bouquet or smart succulent for yourself on the way out, or just take home some serious inspiration for your home plant-scaping pursuits.

Libra

Your ruling planet Venus informs your love for all that’s luxe and beautiful, Libra, and your solo date should include that same energy. Book yourself a solo afternoon tea at a ritzy hotel, suggests Gailing. Bring a book, and look for a locale with an especially sumptuous interior you can admire as you nibble on dainty bites and people watch.

Scorpio

It’s time for you to check in for your solo date, Scorpio—to a hotel, that is. Lettman recommends booking a one night stay at a local hotel where you can truly have some relaxing alone time. You approach all aspects of your life with intensity and vigor—your ruling planet Pluto, plus your water element, are to thank—so why not take your relaxation and fun as seriously? Fall off the map for a night, order room service, take a soothing bubble bath, put on the hotel robe, and settle in for a relaxing evening of you time.

Sagittarius

You can’t be tied down, Sagittarius, so your next solo date should be a mini day trip. Your ruling planet Jupiter’s association with expansion bestows you with your insatiable wanderlust, and your fire element lends you the independence to fulfill it. This time though, says Gailing, stick closer to home and plan a mini trip nearby for a change of pace.“Even if it’s just going two hours away, you’re getting out of dodge and feeling a sense of expanded potential,” says Gailing. Depending on where you reside, maybe you’re a short train trip or drive away from a winery or a nearby theme park, or a cute small town. Head out for an afternoon and explore.

Capricorn

Capricorn, you are a person who appreciates quality and luxury, and you have a deep reverence for history and culture. Depending on your tastes, Lettman and Gailing recommend you treat yourself to a cultural excursion that piques your interest, like an exhibition or performance. Dress up for a night at the opera or ballet, or treat yourself to a nice breakfast followed by a solo stroll around a museum where you’ll have plenty of informative placards to read and audio tours to listen to.

Aquarius

You’re known as the friend of the zodiac, Aquarius, and you find joy and some peace by giving back to others. Volunteering in your community, for example at a soup kitchen or animal shelter, and contributing to the common good fulfills your deeply altruistic nature, says Lettman. Sign up for a volunteer shift for an afternoon and help with a cause you care about.

Pisces

For your next solo date, Pisces, give yourself the space and time to truly unwind. As the zodiac’s empath, you need time to soothe your endless depths. What better way to do that than with some special pampering? Lettman recommends a spa day for you, complete with the works. Think: soaking pools, treatments, massages, manicures and pedicures, cucumbers on the eyes, and soothing music.

Casualties keep growing in this month’s mass exploitation of MOVEit 0-day

The dramatic fallout continues in the mass exploitation of a critical vulnerability in a widely used file-transfer program, with at least three new victims coming to light in the past few days. They include the New York City Department of Education and energy companies Schneider Electric and Siemens Electric.

To date, the hacking spree appears to have breached 122 organizations and obtained the data of roughly 15 million people, based on posts the crime group has published or victim disclosures, Brett Callow, a threat analyst at the antivirus company Emsisoft, said in an interview.

Microsoft has tied the attacks to Clop, a Russian-speaking ransomware syndicate. The hacks are all the result of Clop exploiting what had been a zero-day vulnerability in MOVEit, a file-transfer service that’s available in both cloud and on-premises offerings.

The first signs of the exploitation spree occurred on May 27. Four days later, MOVEit provider, Progress, patched the vulnerability, which is tracked as CVE-2023-34362. The zero-day stemmed from a SQL injection. These are among the oldest forms of vulnerability and are the result of poor coding practices that are preventable. Even after Progress issued the fix, some MOVEit users continued to get hacked because they hadn’t yet installed it on their networks.

Among the first confirmed victims were payroll service Zellis and the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Zellis customers British Airways, the BBC, Aer Lingus, Ireland’s HSE, and UK retailer Boots were all known to have had data stolen through the breach of the payroll service. Other victims soon came to light, including two Department of Energy entities, the US states of Missouri and Illinois, the American Board of Education Extreme Networks, and Ofcam.

Driver license data for millions of Oregon and Louisiana citizens have also been stolen in the attacks. CNN has reported that the Department of Agriculture may also be affected.

Shoes keep dropping

On Tuesday, the Clop site named Siemens Electric as another victim, and shortly after that, it was widely reported, company officials confirmed its systems had been breached in the Clop campaign.

“Based on the current analysis, no critical data has been compromised and our operations have not been affected,” a Siemens Electric representative told news outlets, including Cyberscoop. “We took immediate action when we learned about the incident.” Attempts by Ars to reach Siemens Electric weren’t successful.

Clop named Schneider Electric as another victim. In an email, a Schneider Electric official wrote: “On May 30th, 2023, Schneider Electric became aware of vulnerabilities impacting Progress MOVEit Transfer software. We promptly deployed available mitigations to secure data and infrastructure and have continued to monitor the situation closely.”

On Saturday evening, the head of New York City’s Department of Education came forward to say that it, too, had been hit in the Clop campaign.

“Review of the impacted files is ongoing, but preliminary results indicate that approximately 45,000 students, in addition to DOE staff and related service providers, were affected,” Emma Vadehra, chief operating officer for the department, wrote. “Roughly 19,000 documents were accessed without authorization. The types of data impacted include Social Security Numbers and employee ID numbers (not necessarily for all impacted individuals; for example, approximately 9,000 Social Security Numbers were included).”

Clop is a Russian-speaking group that’s among the most prolific and active ransomware actors. The threat actor recently mass-exploited CVE-2023-0669, a critical vulnerability in a different file-transfer service known as GoAnywhere. That hacking spree also claimed more than 100 organizations, including data security company Rubrik, and Community Health Systems of Franklin, Tennessee. The hack of Community Health Systems, one of the biggest hospital chains, allowed Clop to obtain health information for 1 million patients.

Winners and Losers: Threads takes on Twitter, as Microsoft Teams is exposed

Every Sunday, we pick out a technology brand that has had a particularly great week, as well as one that hasn’t.

For this latest entry, there’s been a lot to unpack with Mark Zuckerberg going to war with Elon Musk following the launch of the Twitter-rivalling Threads app.

We’ve also seen the European launch of the Honor 90 phone, while Microsoft has inadvertently kickstarted the rumour mill by suggesting a PS5 slim could arrive before the end of 2023.

Keep reading below to find out who we have crowned as the winner and loser of the week.

Threads app logoThreads

Meta launched a new social media app called Threads this week, joining the likes of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp under Zuckerburg’s ownership.

With Elon Musk enforcing several controversial changes to Twitter, many people have been searching for a replacement app in the same mould. Threads so far looks to be the best alternative option to Twitter, effectively using the same design template.

Mark Zuckerberg claims that Threads saw a remarkable 30 million users sign up to Threads within the first 24 hours, with reports suggesting that figure has since spiralled up to 55 million. It’s a resounding success for the launch of Threads, mounting the first serious challenge to Twitter since Musk seized control.

Of course, Threads is still a long way off the approximate 450 million user count of Twitter, and is still lacking important features such as web access on desktop, private direct messages and the ability to use GIFs in posts. But with such a strong start, the future looks bright for Meta’s latest social media app, even if Musk is threatening a legal battle

In one of the most remarkable technology stories of 2023 so far (via BleepingComputers), a member of the US Navy has exposed a significant security flaw in Microsoft Teams.

Alex Reid, the aforementioned member of the US Navy, was able to use a tool called TeamsPhisher to bypass Microsoft’s security measures and send malware-ridden attachments to unsuspecting victims.

The good news is that this security loophole can only be used against people with a Microsoft Business account, so your personal account is likely to be unaffected. But that won’t offer any respite to companies that deal with sensitive information and use Teams as their main messaging system.

Microsoft has confirmed that it’s aware of the problem, but it seems that fixing this security issue isn’t high on the company’s priority list, dismissing the security flaw by saying that it requires “social engineering” in order to be exploited. Microsoft also encouraged users to practise good computing habits online, and avoid clicking on suspicious links.

That isn’t the most encouraging response from Microsoft. While it is indeed true that it’s highly unlikely that many people will be able to take advantage of this security flaw, there will still likely be plenty of businesses starting to consider alternative options to ensure the highest level of security for their employees.

How to fix the cloud sync error on the Steam Deck?

The Steam Deck brings PC gaming to a handheld device with players able to access and play thousands of games, including quite a few AAA games, from Steam’s extensive library to the portable console. And with Steam Cloud, you don’t have to worry about losing their progress, stats, settings, and other information when switching between your PC and the Steam Deck. The cloud sync feature doesn’t always work as expected, though, but there are a few ways to troubleshoot the problem. Here’s how to fix the cloud sync error on a Steam Deck.

QUICK ANSWER

To fix the Steam Deck cloud sync error, ensure that SteamOS and the games are updated to the latest version. Simply restarting the device often does the trick. Check and enable cloud sync on the device and for individual games, and make sure that you don’t have any network connectivity issues. There are also specific game compatibility features you might have to adjust. Also, keep in mind that these errors could be because Steam’s servers are down or going through routine maintenance.

What is the Steam Deck cloud sync error?

Steam’s cloud sync lets users save their progress and resume the game from where they left off, even when playing on another device. Any problems with the cloud sync will result in the progress not getting saved, a problem that can range from simply annoying to extremely frustrating. Users will see a cloud sync error message if the sync fails or when the device can’t locate your most recent saved files on Steam Cloud.

There are a few reasons why you might come across the cloud sync error on the Steam Deck. It could happen if the cloud synchronization settings are disabled, when the Steam servers are down, or if you’re having network connectivity problems. Corrupted game files, platform mismatches (which can occur if you’re playing the same game on a Steam Deck and a PC), incorrect configurations, or outdated SteamOS and game versions could also cause the cloud sync error to appear.

How to fix the Steam Deck cloud sync error?Check if the Steam servers are down

Like any service, the problem could be on Steam’s side and not an issue with your device. If Steam servers are down, it will understandably cause a sync error on the Steam Deck. Check sites like Steam Stat or Down Detector to see if others are reporting problems. Steam also conducts routine maintenance on its servers weekly (every Tuesday at 7 PM EST), and there might be outages during that time that will cause cloud sync errors on the Steam Deck.

Restart the deviceSteam Deck controls

Sometimes, simply restarting the Steam Deck might do the trick. Press the Steam button on the device to launch the main menu and go to Power. Select Restart. If your device is unresponsive because of other software glitches, long press the power button to force restart the Steam Deck.

Update the Steam Deck and games

You should always keep SteamOS and the games you’re playing updated to the latest versions to ensure you receive any bug fixes that Steam or the game developer rolls out. To update SteamOS, press the Steam button and go to Settings > System. Select Check for updates to see if one is available. If there is one, you will see the Apply button.

To check for specific game updates, press the Steam button and go to Library > (game) and press the gear icon on the right to open the game settings. Go to Properties > Updates to check if there are any available.

Ensure that cloud sync is enabled

To avoid any cloud sync errors on the Steam Deck, check to ensure that the feature isn’t accidentally disabled. First, press the Steam button, go to Settings > Cloud, and toggle on Enable Steam Cloud. If it’s already enabled, you can try toggling it off and on again to see if it fixes the cloud sync error.

Go to Library > (game), select the gear icon, and go to Properties > General. Uncheck and check the Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud option. Then go to Properties > Local files and select Verify integrity of save files.

Force the game to use ProtonSteam Deck Portal in hand

A platform mismatch could cause cloud sync errors on the Steam Deck. Proton is a compatibility layer that makes it possible for the handheld console’s SteamOS to run Windows games. Press the Steam button and go to Library > (game). Go to Settings (gear icon) > Properties > Compatibility, and check Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool. Then select Proton in the drop-down menu.

Check your network connectivity and firewalls

First, make sure that you have an active Internet connection. An unstable connection or network firewalls might also block traffic and cause cloud sync errors on the Steam Deck.

FAQsHow do I know if a game supports Steam Cloud?

You will see a Steam Cloud logo in the upper right on the store page if a game uses Steam Cloud. However, the types of files and settings that are integrated depend on the game developer.
