Whoa, I missed a big setlock day!!!
I’m still reading all the posts, but between the “Uncle Sherlock” crap, Ben’s scruff, Martin’s hand clenching, and the ambulance, I’m concluding that:
John having a had a baby with Mary is literally killing Sherlock.
Sigh. I guess we’ll see where it goes…

Reblog if you are an adult woman (single, married, mom, non-mom, whatever!) professional, who did not give up fandom, fanfic, or fanart when you “grew up.”
AND WHO ARE YOU?
(I’m 43, single Mom, massage therapist, dance teacher, professional writer - still addicted to fanfic! My fandoms are Inception, Star Wars, MCU, and video games.)
I am certainly not ‘grown up’, though I pull off Adulting like I’m getting paid for it. (Oh wait…) 50, happily single, technical author, read lots of fic and write a little. Mostly MCU for now.
And have been thinking a lot lately about ageism in fandom.
*sidles up* Do adult AFAB agender folk count too?
I’m 30, married with one kid, programmer, major fic addict. mostly in Person of Interest fandom.
30, just bought a house, fandom 4 lyfe
turning 34 this year. fandom is getting me through an abrupt reintroduction to the single life. fandom and fanfic have kept me alive and given me reasons to smile and laugh. fandoms at present: some MCU but mostly Star Wars
45 this year, single woman, home owner, have worked 19 years in my current place of employment. Discovered fan fiction in my senior year of high school, and it has led to the best things in my life: writing, friendships, independence of thought and the ability to allow myself to enjoy my leisure activities without having to justify myself to anyone.
31-year-old woman, single, library assistant, did not even get into fandom until I was out of college and working my first full-time job. (At least, fandom as such; I did write a Star Wars novel in sixth grade.) At this point fandom is the majority of my social life, which means I actually have one, and is definitely one of my great joys.
SINGLE, ALMOST 50 WOMAN, BURNING THROUGH MENOPAUSE. HAVE BEEN IN FANDOM SINCE AGE 12. EDUCATOR, OLD PUNK ROCKER, ACADEMICALLY TRAINED MARXIST THEORY HISTORIAN.
50 YO. Graphic Designer. Nerd formidable.
Almost 50, poly, mom of three, run a Pagan circle, member of Three Patch Podcast, write, fic, read fic, rec fic, occasionally draw some fan art. Married - but make me a good offer and I’ll consider it! JOHNLOCK ATE MY BRAIN. ^.~
45, newly single, mom of a soon-to-be-teen. GED and Citizenship teacher. Discovered fandom back in the ‘Zine days with Blakes Seven and ran a zine with my friends…but had already been watching Star Trek and privately reading Sherlock Holmes starting at age 10 ( as I suppose countless other girls did who werent exactly enamoured with Sweet Valley High). Loved that bohemian with my whole soul. Went to my first Sci-Fi Con at 16. BBC Sherlock rekindled it all and this time around, I’m writing.
This is so fabulous. Look at all these people with mortgages on here! I salute you, comrades! Reading all the wonderful notes and wanting to follow everyone regardless of fandom affiliation.
I’m forty… two (had to think for a moment!), bi, writer and artist (IRL, not in fandom), am very happily spoused, and I got into online fandom thanks to The X-Files way back in the day of dial up Internet. Then had a long hiatus and then BBC Sherlock pulled me and my Holmes loving (since I was 10ish) heart back online and on here.
57, homeowner, psychologist (elderly mental health) bi, cancer survivor, married, no kids. Lived in several countries, travelled extensively, and have certainly ‘got a life’, take note people out there that tell me to get one! Always existed in a fandom; Star Trek to Sherlock and everything in between. I feel no shame. The joy fandom has brought me over a lifetime is immense.
This post is amazing. Don’t you feel like sometimes you need the re-assurance that you’re not doing it wrong? I mean the whole adulting thing?
39, single (divorced), no kids, had a few jobs already (originally trained as a freight forwarder, went to university at the age of 28, now I do (IT) project management) I got into fandom and fanfic rather late… only a few years ago… what can I say… I had a lot more free time after my divorce and I wanted to spent it doing something that makes me happy for a change! I love being part of something so fabulous. Mainly Sherlock fandom with a side of SPN, Marvel, Star Trek and others
57, bicontinental, professor, blissfully
married, no children. Have lived all over, hiked all over, studied 10 languages, published plenty in my field. Wrote my first fan fiction at 13–scripts for the original Star Trek. For me what sets fan fiction apart from “original” fiction (scare quotes intentional) is the community that surrounds, nurtures, consumes, comments on, illustrates, and shares it. I’m a vocal fan of fan fiction and of the wonderful visual and video arts that talented people create for it, and a lucky beneficiary of the excellent meta and memes and gifs shared here and on AO3.
tagging @notjustmom @mydogwatson @atlinmerrick @silentauroriamthereal @myladylyssa @hubblegleeflower @conversationswithbenedict all amazing ladies
36, single and child-free, ESL instructor/professor, classical singer, choir conductor, have lived in six cities in three countries. First fandom life was in Harry Potter around ages 22-25. I wrote a little over 1.4 million words of fiction spread out over 105 stories. Then I lost interest, got busy and thought I was done with fandom, then I’d moved on. Discovered Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek and promptly dove face-first into Sherlock because I needed to devour his work and I knew he was in that. Knew by the end of The Great Game that I needed to seek out the fandom for discussion purposes. Knew by the end of The Reichenbach Fall that I needed to write these two, and somehow found my way home to fandom again. Different fandom, different platform, but fandom is fandom, in many ways. Now I’ve written over 1.4 million words in 60 stories and I’m nowhere near done, and I know now that fandom is not something that you grow out of, and I’m glad I know that. I’m a fierce defender of fanwork’s right to exist. To all of us who have this secret inner life: bravo, folks!

Sherlock is SO attractive in this shot! The downward shot, the raised arm, the 183cm of sex in all black, the open vee of pale skin, the loosely-tousled curls… it’s amazing that John didn’t “tackle” him again right there!

replied to your post “Almond lemon custard cake”
This really is a full-service fandom: great original episodes, incredibly creative fanworks, and now dessert! Many thanks, SA!
Ha, I think the REALLY full-service would be if I baked it and brought it to your house myself! I do what I can, though… :P I make this all the time without the custard and it’s unfailingly a hit. People beg me to bring it to parties and potlucks. I hope people do give it a try! :)
