The Secret of Hazel Grange by SilentAuror [AO3]

The Secret of Hazel Grange by SilentAuror [AO3]:

swissmissficrecs:

Word count:
18,153

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sherlock (TV)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, Mrs Hudson
Additional Tags: POV: Sherlock, post-series 4 fic, Christmas, COVID-19, pandemic Christmas
Summary:

John has a secret, and Sherlock is bothered. Trapped together at Baker Street during the lockdown, the tension only grows worse as Christmas draws nearer…

======

Rec: This is a perfect delight of a romcom à la Sherlock, with misunderstandings galore, awkward pining, holiday domesticity, and yes, everyone’s favorite, there was only one bed! Set after series 4 and during the December 2020 lockdown, this maximizes the impact of both the comfort of the insulated bubble of domesticity they have built together, and the internalized pressure of living so close while keeping secrets from each other.

As the plot unfolds, it becomes increasingly clear to the reader what is going on while Sherlock stubbornly refuses to deduce anything in a misguided attempt to shield himself from the impact of what he imagines will lead to John moving out again. This made it doubly fun for me to read, both knowing that I had a one-up on the greatest detective ever and admiring the skill of the author in making every scene plausible with (at least) two interpretations.

For the Rosie-phobes, she is mentioned as living there too, but is of indeterminate age and never appears in person in the story, always conveniently sleeping or off visiting someone.

Ahhh, thank you so much!!!! This is so kind! I was aiming to write something that would just give people a spot of brightness in this hard, weird time, and I hope it did! Thanks so much for the rec! <3333333333333333333

proseandcons:

i would literally kill to walk around in a museum or a library right now. don’t even talk to me about coffee shops unless you want me to cry. god I miss being out and about

As someone who works in a (currently closed for the second time) museum, I couldn’t possibly agree more. Going out. In public. Browsing in stores. Trying on clothes. Sitting in cafes and restaurants. Sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers in a movie theatre without fear. Going anywhere besides the grocery store or long, solo walks. I’m so over this.

As someone would say, “It’s Christmas!”

Oooo, an unprovoked attack bang in the middle of Friday morning! How very dare you, madame!

To reply to you in worthy fashion I decided to choose the first random-ass GIF to come my way. And you know what? It kinda works. Not that you have a mustache. But if you did, it would definitely be a fucking villain mustache

( @silentauroriamthereal who INVENTED the unprovoked stealth attack bang in the middle of Friday morning)

Mwahahaha! You know it!!! And if I had a moustache, it would by definition by a villain moustache. Moustaches are always bad. There are no exceptions.
