things that always make me happy: serial commenters. there are three types

1) reading a longfic chapter by chapter, leaving an increasingly emotional comment on every chapter, descends into keysmashes near the end: outstanding

2) read one fic by accident, clicked the author name, now working steadily through the backlog and commenting on everything, I wake up to an AO3 inbox full of enthusiasm: precious beyond words

3) the longterm serial commenter whose comment begins with I don’t even know this fandom but because they have followed me from somewhere else: stunning. humbling. magical.

these are all *chef’s kiss* and I want to add one more:
4) left a comment a while ago, comes back and leaves another comment on the same fic, telling you that they’re coming back to reread the fic: angels. blessings. lifesavers.

OK but real quick here: how many times can I comment on the same fic before it gets creepy???

IT NEVER GETS CREEPY

when you return to the same fic every few weeks or months and leave a new comment, what you’re telling the author is “this work that you created is so rich and of such high quality that i can reread it over and over again and every time i get something new and wonderful out of it.” i literally can’t imagine any feedback that would make me happier than that.

please, please, please let’s fight this weird social media concept that positive feedback on fanfic is the kind of social interaction you’ll be judged for or graded on. please kill the notion that leaving (polite, positive) comments is annoying or intrusive or “too much.” we used to email feedback to each other! we would sit down and write a five paragraph essay about how much we liked someone’s story that they posted on their personal website four years ago, and then we would send that essay directly to their inbox! and they would be DELIGHTED and sometimes they’d write back and you’d become friends!

(this is still a good way to meet people in a new fandom, btw–not the email part, but leaving feedback, ESPECIALLY detailed feedback, until you become a positive familiar face makes people more inclined to interact with you–follow you on tumblr, participate in your ask memes, reblog your fic–and then you get invited to someone’s discord server and there you are. it’s hellishly hard to make friends on tumblr but leaving comments helps get the ball rolling.)

Hell yes to all of this!!! 😍😍😍

TIL the Ottoman Sultan wrote to a group of Ukrainian cossacks in 1676 and demanded their submission. They responded, “we have no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck thy mother.”

via reddit.com

The full response is even better

“Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!

O sultan, Turkish devil and damned devil’s kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight are thou, that canst not slay a hedgehog with your naked arse? The devil shits, and your army eats. Thou shalt not, thou son of a whore, make subjects of Christian sons; we have no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck thy mother.

Thou Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, pig of Armenia, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig’s snout, mare’s arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw thine own mother!

So the Zaporozhians declare, you lowlife. You won’t even be herding pigs for the Christians. Now we’ll conclude, for we don’t know the date and don’t own a calendar; the moon’s in the sky, the year with the Lord, the day’s the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!

- Koshovyi otaman Ivan Sirko, with the whole Zaporozhian Host.”

Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks to Sultan Mehmed IV of the Ottoman Empire

In case anyone needed a dramatic reading of the above historical letter.

You could not have written more perfect dialogue for Peter Capaldi. This is MAGNIFICENT.

I love how, in the painting, they are all gathered around the one dude who can write and yelling out “TELL HIM HE BLOWS GOATS!”

Capaldi’s reading is 👌👌👌 I saw this Letters Live performance live streamed and it was phenomenal then and remains phenomenal now!

Wee update time!

The current fic is now over 15,200 words! It’s going strong! :) Plus, the next project is already writing itself in my head, so I need to hurry up and keep up with the muses here! :)

they took to it like a duck to water: they began naturally, almost effortlessly, and were immediately in their element

they took to it like a baby otter to water: screaming, certain they were dying, hating every minute of it despite being perfectly suited to the conditions

I don't think fic writers know how much they matter

insaneoldme:

Do you know how many times you distracted me when I was hurt or lonely? Do you know how many times a line or a scene from fanfic marked me so much that I remembered years later, even though I can’t recall my own phone number?

Even if the fic isn’t perfect or popular or multi-chaptered… Sometimes there’s just one sentence that changed me.

You, miles and miles away, changed me.

I love this post so much. When things are hard and the words aren’t coming easily, this kind of post helps more than you could probably ever imagine, OP. I hope that anything I’ve ever written could be one of those lines or scenes for someone. Thank you so much for writing this. <3

At Mount fuji

Forget the rest of the fireworks around the world, these are the best. HNY.

I feel like I just had an out of body experience. Wow.

These are the most beautiful fireworks I’ve ever seen!!

For anyone who likes fireworks and didn’t get to see any this year (I know they were cancelled in my city bc of omicron), or just likes some gorgeous fireworks. It’s a bonus to me to be able to see them without hearing them, too. These are so, so beautiful!
