thing that haunts me #2387: sherlock running straight into a burning bonfire to get john out while mary stops up when she gets close enough to feel the heat and doesn’t even attempt to help
She’s literally all sound (ugh, that caterwauling) and zero action, whereas Sherlock plunges unhesitatingly into the fire to drag John out without a single thought for himself

This morning I would like to offer the universe at large, and my apartment building in specific, a hearty fuck you for the unannounced water shut off this morning.

One thing nobody tells you about adulthood is how lonely it can be. Everyone is always working full time, your schedules never work around each other, and it becomes harder to make solid friendships. It’s no wonder so many people stay in boring or shitty relationships because at least you have someone to do things with. I’ve lately discovered the joys of doing things myself because I couldn’t just wait around for my friends to clear their schedules and I’ll be damned if I get into a bad relationship out of loneliness
This. Every damned word of it.

Like… I get the sentiment behind this and I think it’s good for bringing attention to pay disparity everywhere, but not all actors have the same box-office draw. He doesn’t get to decide how much another actor is worth to the studio.
I get what you’re saying, but I also think that it’s incredibly important for male actors to stand up for the rights of their female colleagues, especially ones who are performing in the same role category (aka, pay range). There’s certainly space for differential in terms of audience draw, I suppose, but not to the same extent that Hollywood in particular practises on a regular basis. If those who benefit from the system don’t speak out, in their privilege, then they’re inherently complicit in keeping said system in place. I do get what you’re driving at, but I nonetheless support Benedict’s choice in this.

There was once a merchant in the famous market at Baghdad. One day he saw a stranger looking at him in surprise, and he knew that the stranger was Death. Pale and trembling, the merchant fled the marketplace and made his way many-many miles to the city of Samarra. For there he was sure that Death could not find him. But when, at last, he came to Samarra, the merchant saw waiting for him the grim figure of Death. “Very well,” said the merchant. “I give in. I am yours. But tell me, why did you look surprised when you saw me this morning in Baghdad?” “Because,” said Death, “I had an appointment with you tonight… in Samarra.”
This episode is arguably the worst BBC Sherlock episode Moffat and Gatiss made, by a wide margin, but I will say this: Benedict’s narration of this legend was intensely beautiful. ❤️
