Fifty Shades is a treasure trove of terrible lines.

It’s like saying “wow, think how much better gas mileage your car would get if you weren’t sitting in it” or “think how dry that umbrella would be if you weren’t holding it in between you and the rainstorm”.
the things we create? they’re for us. they are meant to carry us. they are meant to protect us. we are meant to hold them up to keep us dry.
why do we even have a society if not to take care of each other?
Literally the entire point of people coming together to live in communities is because one person and their people (household, friends, family, whatever) can’t build roads and hospitals and maintain a fire-fighting force and all the rest of it all by themselves. That’s why we pay taxes, aka we all pay into a fund to pay for our common needs, based on what we earn (or don’t earn, as the case may be), so that we can pay for all of us to have these services, and carry the people who can’t carry themselves for whatever reason. It’s just how human evolution has worked. It’s what makes sense, not even from the standpoint of compassion, but from basic common sense. It’s just logical to pool our funds for the things we can’t each pay to have our own, personalized version of.
