Musings on Descriptions

It seems to me, if its an ordinary thing, you can skip long descriptions. i.e., ancient dusty book will do just fine, you don’t have to describe the exact quantity or exact color of book, or how many cracks it has in its binding.*

But if it is something unusual, that the audience hasn’t seen before, then you should amp up the descriptions.

*One caveat…if your description is funny, I think you can leave it in.

L. Laufeyson responds to F. Bacon

"He that hath wife and children hath given hostages to fortune; for they are impediments to great enterprises, either of virtue or mischief."
~ Francis Bacon

I Bring the Fire now has 101 Reviews on Amazon!

I Bring the Fire has 101 reviews…I feel honored, and, well, happy.
Thank you Heather Miller, Greg Standberg, Kimberly C. Tomlinson, and Estrallita!

While I’m at it, thanks Megan Earley for your review of “Monsters”. Thank you Alexi C. Smart and Nicole Mcdevitt for your reviews of “Chaos”. Thanks also to Christine Smith, and Nicole McDevitt (again ;-)), your reviews of “In the Balance" are much appreciated.

Thanks also to Wayne Stout for all his reviews on Smashwords!

Reviews are probably the biggest factor in people deciding whether or not to download and/or buy my books. I appreciate all of them. Thanks everyone!

Permission to Quote!

Lewis Hyde, author of the amazing “Trickster Makes This World" gave me permission to quote him on the first page of my upcoming paperback version of "I Bring the Fire”.

This is the quote I intend to use:

“…his aimlessness makes him an embodiment of uncertainty—no one knows when he’ll show up, or how he’ll break in, or what he’ll do once he has arrived.”

Something I Liked about Thor 2

In the end it was really human science that brought down Malekith. Sure, Thor distracted him some, but it was really Erik’s device, and Jane’s hijacking the device for things it wasn’t intended that saved the day.

I’m down with that.

Saw Thor 2

Loved it. There are some plot holes, and things that were a little weak, but overall, emotionally, very satisfying.

Creating a Print Version of "I Bring the Fire" Part I

Punchy, witty banter creates a lot of copy widows.
