I just finished another book

I’m grateful my lawn is full of beautiful wildflowers, I just finished another book, and my Dad’s birthday is today! It’s been a long, busy night, but I made it through. Time to get some sleep. Have a great day, everyone! What are you grateful for this fine Monday?

working with a traditional publisher

I just finished my next book on working with a traditional publisher. I’d love to get some feedback! It’s 61 pages. Next up is my book on self publishing which is the big one.

Evening meditation time

Evening meditation time. I enjoyed a great afternoon with my son, and now I’m nearly finished with my book on traditional publishing. It’ll be about 60 pages long. I’ll let you know when it’s ready for readers! Plus, Bob made me corned beef & cabbage. A delightful day :). #namaste

different options for getting published

OK I’ve done it, I finished the first draft of my book on different options for getting published. It ended up being 63 pages. It goes over the differences between traditional publishing, small press publishing, vanity publishing, and self-publishing. So this is not a “how to” book – it is a “understanding the basics” book. That then leads into my next book which is a “how to” for traditional publishing. And then I’ll do the “how to” for self-publishing.

Way back when I began this project I thought I’d turn the entire Lisa Shea Writing area of my website into one massive “how to write and publish” book. Now I have turned it into 14 separate books. There was more content there than I thought!!

Here’s my first run at a cover – yup, blue and gold. It feels fairly dark, though. Maybe I should make the book cover ivory with black letters? And I’m not sure the main title stands out enough …

I’m still very open to ideas on the cover, on the title, on the content, and so on.

Let me know if you’d be interested in seeing a free copy to give me some feedback on polishing it up! Thanks!

how to self publish

I’ve been trying for months to tackle the task of turning the hundreds of pages on my “getting published” website section into a giant “how to self publish” book. I already wrote the books on “how to write a book”, “how to do an author signing”, “how to use twitter as an author”, etc. etc. But I’d left the core “how to self publish” section until last because it is such a HUGE topic that I’ve written so much content on.

I’ve decided, at last, to break it up into smaller books. I think it’s the only way to wrap my head around the task. So first up I will compile a relatively short (maybe 80 pages) book specifically on ‘Traditional Publishing vs Self Publishing’. That will get me started and hopefully be helpful to new authors.

What are you up to?

Here’s the pages I’m building from. Part of the challenge is that I’m updating my website pages as I update the book, so there’s a lot of back-and-forth involved.

Nazi Gold Train

Rumors of a Nazi Gold Train brought a huge economic boom to a town struggling to recover from numerous closed coal mines. Maybe we should try something similar here in the US! Surely there’s something other than coal to revitalize the Appalachian region …

Morning yoga

Morning yoga on the back porch was sunny & serene – but had a vast number of tiny little Gypsy Moth caterpillars. Uh oh. Trees, watch out! It looks like it’s going to be a bad year for anything green and leafy …

Evening meditation time

Evening meditation time. Every day I strive to challenge myself & think outside the box. It helps the brain stay engaged. For example, when people used to ask what I wrote, I would say “anything but horror”. And then I thought to myself, why define myself by a negative? I should just give it a try, and if that’s not a good fit for me, that’s fine. But I should at least try. It’s the trying new things that helps the brain build new connections. #namaste
