It’s A Numbers Game…

Teen Talk

Whenever I am trying to be funny and play dumb about something, I love to twirl my hair and say “Math is hard”. It’s my little throwback homage to the highly quotable Teen Talk Barbie…the Barbie that was pulled from the shelves in the early 90′s when legions of adults complained about the numerically challenged doll.

As an adult, I see why parents were upset about a doll that might encourage or support a stereotype that women aren’t good at math. As a kid, I didn’t care, I was really good at m...

The Song Remains the Same…

Nothing brings me back to a place or time or person, like a song. Some songs make me relive high school or when I was a little girl choreographing dances with friends at a slumber party. Usually, a song conjures up a specific person from my life.

My sweet mother passed when I was a teenager, and this song always makes me think of her. My dear Uncle Steve passed when I was in college, and this song makes me think of him. Last night, my Uncle Ray, one of the kindest people I have ever known, pas...

The Saga of the Cell Phone Upgrade…

This is the sordid tale of an innocent young-ish gal (that’s me) and an inexplicably fraught-with-obstacles phone upgrade.

Why won’t the phone company let me upgrade my phone online, even though they appear to give me the online option? Why do they offer me the same phone I see online, for over $100 more over the phone? Why do they keep taking money out of my bank account for the phone, without sending me an actual phone?

But the question I ask the most…the question that keeps me up at night an...

Have You Seen This Man…

Have You Seen This Man

…if you are single and in your thirties, I am going to guess you have. About a year ago, I began to notice “this man” constantly popping up on sidebar ads of my social media pages. In the past few weeks, since I was forced to upgrade my email account, he is now showing up in the sidebar there as well.

I have personally never used an online dating service, but somehow the internet trolls have figured out that I am single, and therefore, they bombard me with the face of of this salt-and-pepper g...

Life’s Like a Movie, Write Your Own Ending…

I have a very short list of people I would love to meet in this life. The list was formed when I was around 10 years old, and it has never ever changed.

1. Mr. Rogers

2. Jim Henson

3. Carol Burnett

For some reason, I was in a Muppet-y mood today and I was thinking a lot about #2 on that list. I’ve always had a love for everything related to Jim Henson and those fuzzy creatures he created. (My personal favorites are Fozzie Bear and Rowlf the Dog.)

I remembered reading something that Richard Curtis...

An American Werewolf in Dibley…

vicar

I spend my days at work in an American office that is both cold and unwelcoming. I spend my evenings in a cozy village in England, where the people are friendly and the cakes are frosted with Marmite. How do I do jump across the pond on a nightly basis? Simple, I’m addicted to the Vicar of Dibley.

From the time I was a child, I’ve loved all things British…British comedies, British writers, British royalty (Kate Middleton is sort of the best thing EVER), and I drink enough hot tea to impress Ea...

Salute Your (Re)Solution…

Another year, another new beginning, another chance to re-set the clock and get things right. Some people hate resolutions. Some people believe resolutions are doomed to fail. I think resolutions are an insight to the soul. Usually when someone rattles off a list of resolutions, there is the standard “lose weight, stop smoking, find a better job, spend more time with friends/family/pets”…but there is often a little nugget on the list that tells you something special, it shows you the “secret-...

Book of the People…

My sweet little debut novel (still on sale forKindlethru tomorrow) is fun, there is some romance, there is some conflict…but mostly, there are laughs. I don’t pretend that it is more or less than a fun chick-lit romp, and I know my audience is comprised of mostly, if not all, women.

Today, I had a pleasant surprise….a MAN contacted me to tell me that he loved the book, that he was”that guy” who “laughed out loud” on a plane while he read it, and that he was recommending it to his other male fr...

I Love Being Judged…

Hey writers, you know that manuscript you have been editing and re-editing…or that one you threw in a drawer (or saved on a flash drive that is now in a drawer, cause who doesn’t use a computer these days?)…well it’s time to unleash your genius on the world.

We are now just a couple of weeks away from the beginning of the 2013 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest.

The categories for the contest are: General Fiction, Romance, Mystery/Thriller, Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror and Young Adult Fi...
