'Awakened Gods' Teaser #5

“I meant, are you repulsed by them?” Lexi freezes in her movement of tracing the scars and spins back around in my arms.

“No,” she says with heated sincerity. “Of course not. What is love if it can be turned off by scars? You could look like an ogre and I would still feel this magnetic pull we have.” She gestures between our two bodies. “I would still be in love with you no matter what you looked like.” She picks up my hand and grips it to her waist. Dropping her voice to a whisper she tells me, “Your touch would still make me quiver.” I think she has that the wrong way around. It’s her touch that makes my every nerve ending vibrate with energy. She leans in and looks into my eyes. “Your eyes would still make me feel like I’m willingly trapped in their dark abyss.” Again, she has that the wrong way around; it’s her eyes that I can swim forever in. She leans in closer so that I can feel the warmth of her breath on my lips. “And your kisses would still scorch my very soul.”

“Ditto,” I barely manage to whisper.

'Awakened Gods' Teaser #4

Awakened Gods (Lunangelique, #3) by Kristin R. Campbell

"I believe you will be a great lieutenant to my cause too.”

“And what cause is that, sir?” I ask.

He looks away from our observers and stares me in the eye with a serious and dark expression. “To make the mortals bow down to me once again.” I should not be surprised anymore by what comes out of Zeus’ mouth. And I’m not, but the thundering that crackles throughout the small village does surprise me.
I jump as lightning strikes down on one of the small houses in the square, instantly setting it ablaze. I look up at the sky that was a beautiful Mediterranean blue when we first appeared here. Now the sky is darkening, you can see the clouds forming too fast to be natural over the small village. Another strike of lightening hits a house across the square from the first strike and that sets ablaze too.

Everywhere, people are running around the square. Some men are getting hoses to put out the fires, vendors are quickly packing up their goods, and women and children are running for shelter. I would be running with them too if I didn’t know it was Zeus causing the chaos.
Out of the corner of my eye there is a flash of blue and I look over to see a whip uncoiling from Zeus’ right arm. He whips it through the air and as it hits a fountain in the middle of the square lightning shoots down from the sky and strikes the exact spot Zeus’ whip had. Now the frantic people who had seconds ago been fleeing the square are frozen in fear as they look upon Zeus once more.
Zeus looks around the crowd, meeting each person’s eye before moving onto the next scared individual. A baby wails in the background, almost drowned out by the noise of the thunder overhead.

In Greek, Zeus addressed the shocked crowd, “The gods have awoken. For centuries we were cursed to a never-ending sleep; only able to witness the changes in the world through the subconscious of others. I am maddened that we were forgotten!” he shouts. The look on his face becomes murderous. “You will believe in the powers of the gods. Have you not seen the chaos of the world lately? That is us!” he seethes. “You,” he points his finger at the individuals in the square, “were the first race and you have betrayed me!”

Teaser for 'Awakened Gods'

Can you guess the POV, I wonder?

Alex and I stare at the closed elevator that just took Lexi down and away from the safety of protectors, not like Lexi has ever needed anyone to protect her before.

“I have a bad feeling,” I admit to Alex.

Alex rubs the stubble on his chin with his index finger, causing a scratching sound to fill the silence of the empty hallway. “Yeah, me too,” he agrees.

“Should we follow her?”

Alex shakes his head. “No, she’s pissed. She needs time to calm down. Let’s go back in. I still have a few more words to share with the King of Darkness himself.” My eyes widen at his domineering tone. I have never thought Alex to be the offensive, leadership type. That role was always reserved for Lexi. However, considering Lexi’s lack of ‘take charge’ attitude I’ve witnessed lately, it’s only to be expected that the other twin would pick up where one left off.

“It’s your show,” I tell him and gesture with my hand for him to lead the way. We walk back into the room and Erebos stands up. Aither turns around in his chair and watches us make our way over to them.

“Where is your twin?” Erebos asks Alex.

Alex stops walking and crosses his arms as soon as his face-to-face with him. “She needs space to think right now. She’ll be back when she’s ready to be.” There is a moment of quietness before Alex continues. “I need to make sure we are on the same page--”

“I don’t think it’s wise for your sister to be alone right now,” Erebos cuts him off.

“I know that!” Alex says exasperated.

“Helios has already spotted her,” Erebos admits.

“What?” I ask in shock. I start to turn for the door.

“It’s too late. By the time you get to her, they will be gone.”

“Gone where?” Alex asks from right behind me. He started running as soon as I did. We pause at the door and turn back around to Erebos. Both him and Aither are now standing.

“I can’t tell you that, yet. What’s about to happen needs to be played out now. Your sister and her lover have just set in motion a new future.”Awakened Gods

'Awakened Gods' Synopsis

Since I am constantly waiting until the very last minute on my husband to create the cover art, I have to settle on a synopsis reveal instead. :(

So here it is:

Lexi has fulfilled her destiny and now the gods have awakened, but is that a good thing?

Now, Lexi lives in a world that is on a global collapse. The gods are angry that they have been forsaken and are seeking revenge on humanity. The oceans are in turmoil, tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, volcano eruptions and famine are causing global chaos, and the sun is being held hostage in an astrological phenomenal, never-ending solar eclipse by the avenging Helios.

Then, there is the problem of Zeus’ threat. Lexi must choose between giving herself to him or watching the “abominable” angels die by his hand. Not to mention, Hera, Zeus’ wife, is proposing her own jealous-driven proposition to Lexi: stay away from her husband or the angels and everyone dear to her will die. Lexi sees no way out of either predicaments and it puts a strain on her relationship with Cole. Will she lose him either way?Awakened Gods
