Jumping Rope

Since I loved to jump rope when I was a kid, I thought it might be an easy and fun exercise to take up again. That’s why I bought an inexpensive jump rope a while back and was excited to try it out. To my surprise, though, I immediately realized it wasn’t so easy anymore. I kept jumping too soon…or too late. It took several tries before I could even jump that rope once! With a little practice, I was able to  get better at it, meaning I could jump the rope a few times before messing up, but it was still too difficult. I finally gave up and started running instead.

Me?

Prior to four months ago, I wasn’t a runner–not at all! However, after seeing a couch to 5k walk/run 8 week program in a magazine, I decided to give it a try. I made it a goal to be able to run the equivalent of a 5k (3.1 miles) before turning 56.

I almost didn’t make it past Day 1! The first day I walked for 29 minutes and ran only for 1 minute. That minute was a long one! When I was done, I was out of breath and felt like I’d never be able to do more.

I didn’t give up, though. I kept at it, gradually increasing my running time. By the end of the 8 week program, I achieved my goal of running 3.1 miles non-stop right before my 56th birthday. Yay!

I’ve been running regularly since and have to say, I love it. It makes me feel healthier and younger. And, without even going on an official diet, it has also helped me lose some weight.

Me? A runner? Yes I am!

Lobstas!

I enjoyed a family get-together hosted by my brother and sister-in-law last night. It was a wonderful time filled with good conversation, laughter and great food (lobsters were the main course).

Everyone knows that Maine lobsters are the best!

Mood Rings are Awesome!

A few weeks ago, a friend surprised me with a very special gift–a mood ring! Like Jean, I, too, owned one when I was a teenager. As soon as I put it on my finger, it started changing colors. We immediately had to check the chart that came with it to see what each color meant. This is what inspired this week’s comic.
