13179310_1781068315459709_2589346716777075521_nA passion hot enough to melt a glacier. A love that shakes them to the core…

M/m ménage a trois passion at its most sizzling. The savage Antarctic winter is closing in, and three research scientists are scheduled for the last flight out – until an unexpected blizzard traps them in the compound. Thrown into a dangerous situation, the three of them turn to each other for survival, solace… and more.

Attractions abound on a remote Antarctic Science Station and then bloom in the face of a stranding that has the potential to be catastrophic.  Extreme situations make for honest emotions, even if they are unexpected or uncomfortable. Brendan and Tuck have a work history and an unrequited attraction, in large part because Brendan had been in a het relationship and not comfortable with said attraction.  Jamie is a young, open and vivacious man with no doubts about what he wants, and yet what he wants in Tuck and Brendan has him feeling like a temporary fling or experiment rather than a true partner.   None of these feeling get in the way of close encounters of the first, second and third kind, however, once the storms roll in, the visibility is zero and the chance of immediate rescue is non-existent.

Long story short, rescue does come and while Jamie and Tuck know and follow their hearts, Brendan makes himself miserable trying to get his old, “comfortable” life back.  Ultimately there is a Jamie-induced melding of the minds and bodies, and the triad is reunited in a common future.

I liked the premise of the book and Jamie and Tuck were likeable characters; their relationship developing organically and believably.   Brendan was a bit angsty for my tastes through most of the journey, but he did redeem himself as the story picked up steam in the last third.   Though honestly, it was the kid, Jamie, who had himself most together and took the chance on making events happen…or not.  But he at least took the chance and didn’t wallow or bemoan the status quo.

Overall the story and the characters were fairly predictable and only the strength of one of the characters pulled it out of the fire for this reader.  The uneven pacing, particularly in the mid-book time frame, along with a difficult time as a reader in fully connecting with a couple of the characters,  resulted in a distracted read.  The ultimate resolution and the strength of the finish redeems the story for this reader, but I still somewhat mourn the early characterizations when compared to the ultimate men the characters became…if that makes sense.

This was a fair read, with the serious potential to have been a much more engaging one.

13100782_957225524385562_6407818611549731371_nIn the depths of the Louisiana swamps, clans of bear shifters roam freely. Hawke Turnclaw, the Alpha over all of his kind, is drowning in the legacy left to him by the Alpha before him, his own father. When he goes on a rescue mission to save a rogue Black bear from the clutches of a Grizzly clan, he finds more than just a Black bear, he finds his mate.

Echo has always been told she’s an anomaly, a fluke. She’s the only bear of her kind and that makes her a hindrance to her clan. She’s tried to run away, but they keep her tethered through guilt and a shock collar around her neck.

And then someone shows up claiming he’s her mate.

Now belonging to a new clan, will she ever be able to understand that she’s so much more than just a burden?

Viper Ice - bluer - divider elementFirst off I should say Burden by Lila Felix was the first story I have read from this author. It was also not the story I imagined it would be. I was thinking hot sexy shifter Bears, lots of growling and well you know. I think we readers have all found ourselves in this position at least once. Fortunately I have a wide variety of reading hats and just put on my Young Adult hat and took to turning pages.

If you are like me you belong to a lot of reader group pages on FaceBook. I know more than once someone has asked about books for their young readers, even I have. So if you or your future word devourer is interested in a romantic Bear Shifter story this is one I would recommend. It is not an explicit romance; it has a wholesome depiction of romance. Yes the hero Hawke Turnclaw and the heroine Echo do not go all in and wait for the big night, which we do not get a birds eye view of.

I enjoyed the world Lila Felix built for our Bear Shifters. The Bayou is a beautiful place for a love story and the characters were a treat. This story is told from Hawke and Echo’s point of view. I was not expecting this so it took a bit to get used to it but Lila did a good job with it. There were a couple times I lost track of who was talking but it was quickly remedied. It also helped me become invested in these two. I did have fun being in both of their heads and hearts while life was taking a toll on them. It also made it very satisfying as they discovered they did have more control than they thought.

So the next time you are looking for a bit of fun, danger and adventure with your Shifter romance or want to share your love of shifters with your cubs this is one you may want to pick up.

Waking up in a strange bed, Angelo is battered and bruised, not to mention, confused. Callum Grey left his work at the New York Stock Exchange after the big financial meltdown. His grandparents left him a sizeable piece of land with a large ranch house…isolated and peaceful. Just when Callum thought he had his life under control, he finds an unconscious man in his barn. After what was one of the worst storms in California’s history, complete with devastating mudslides and casualties, Callum finds himself nursing this man back to heath. Cut off from the outside world from the sinkholes and landslides, Callum and Angelo have no one to keep company with, but each other. Two straight men, both from high-powered jobs and ready for a change What neither man anticipated, was what came next. Love. In situations which determine life and death, you can either laugh… Or cry…like an angel.

Take two successful, driven, professional, and by all-accounts heterosexual men from opposite sides of the country, impose profoundly personal, life-altering events upon each of them and then bring them together under dire circumstances, and what do you get?    In this case, you get two reformed workaholics with the means to step back from the grind and choose a simpler life.   You also get two heretofore horndogs who discover, develop and nurture feelings for one another while isolated and incommunicado following an extreme storm that nearly took the life of one of them.

I don’t personally have any believability issues with Gay-For-You stories, and the relationship itself is a credible and compelling one between two men basically blindsided by feelings they had never experienced, or at least, never acknowledged before.   My ability to suspend disbelief was a bit tested by the “insta-love” factor, even taking into account the intense circumstances under which they met and were subsequently forced to live within.  While it is also true that in works of fiction, things do happen within enhanced timelines, this particular love happens in under a week.   I could be convinced that this can and does happen, but for each man to have these feelings, and come to terms with remarkable ease with said love being a same-sex coupling, it does alter my unquestioning acceptance of the story in its entirety.

Don’t misunderstand:  I love the premise and the setting itself is well envisioned.   The characters are likeable both as individuals and as a couple, and as I have said, the exploration of the relationship itself runs the myriad of emotions and questions one would expect. As short stories go, this has all the requisite elements.  My personal preference for a more realistically represented timeframe and personal adjustments within the context of the story, is just that:  my personal preference.

I recommend this story, read as love in the tempo of prestissimo.   Taken at face value, it is a sweet discovery with some serious moments of heat.

TIME Wounds All Heal - reduced 500x700The Skeptic: “If all this had truly been staged, people would’ve figured it out and demanded the government come out about it.”

The Journalist: “It’s easy to fool a person— It’s quite another to convince them they’ve been fooled.”

Even with the blanket of tattoos that covered both his arms and most of his upper chest, or the face hidden under the hair that constantly fell over his eyes, Channing Maroussas was likely the most beautiful man Chris Sayer had ever met. He was thankful they were close friends as it excused him for any lingering glances. Channing was a bird of brightly lit feathers perched in a world of darkness. But his gift wasn’t just about being beautiful; it was what he could see. He could be in a room full of people, a field emptied of life, reading a newspaper, or overhearing a conversation on the bus— and what was unseen and unheard by others spoke volumes to him. Channing saw what the rest of the world never slowed down long enough to notice, though once pointed out, furies and passions flourished. It was voices like Channing’s that broke the silence of ignorance. His voice just happened to be recorded between the pages of TIME magazine.

Chris Sayer has known Channing for years. But not even that can broker some rules of silence. Chris’s government job is so secretive he can’t even tell his best friend who he works for, which doesn’t help his disagreement over Channing’s journalistic views on global current events. He likes it even less when he finds out Channing left for Syria to cover a story. After Channing accusing the leading presidential elective Nolan Prumpt of inciting hate mongering and fascism, a trip through the greatest hot zone on the planet was like wanting to wash a pill down with poison. But when news got out that Channing had gone missing, Chris knew better than to believe the accusations that his best friend may have changed sides and was now considered an enemy of the state. The one thing Chris did know was he needed to do everything in his power to find Channing before anyone else did. If for no other reason but to let him know how he feels about him.

Time— it’s not long enough — yet with enough of it, wounds all heal.

While not a particularly comfortable subject matter, this gutsy novel is a bold and refreshing departure by Princess S.O., and there is nothing better than a heaping dose of the unexpected.  Even if it is served up as an uncomfortable observation of powers abused and the rampant apathy that allows such abuse to flourish.  This is a dramatized take on the world right now.  It is about what can happen when people in general stop thinking with open minds and allow themselves to be led by vainglorious rhetoric into the great Stepford-like wasteland.  It is fiction.  But it is so damned feasible in the general sense, that it provides some 200 pages of wholly engrossing horror.

Having said all that, it is also the story of two long-time friends who live and work on somewhat opposite ends of the political intrigue sphere that is Washington DC.   Each man has unacknowledged feelings for the other; one openly out and the other not.  Not even to the best friend.  Channing’s self-imposed investigative assignment to war-torn Middle East has covert spy friend Chris dispatched to observe and neutralize him, Channing, having been labelled a traitor in the name of political expediency.  Under dire, life-threatening conditions, in a place where their orientation is an automatic and barbaric death sentence and their enemy comes from both sides, the two overcome both personal and practical obstacles to concede their feelings.  In this world however, happily ever after is not without consequences and choices are made in the background wherein, suffice it to say, I would not want to be the one making them.

Conspiracy theories abound today and as with all rumour and conjecture, there is no doubt at least some of it is based in truth.  It is quite possible, maybe even probable, that all of us peons are being played like a cheap fiddle.  At our own expense.  This however, is merely a story, and while there are some instances of artistic license in the telling of it that will more than likely elicit some strong reaction, it is important to remember that it is just a story.

It is also a reminder to open up all the senses that allow us to “see” around us.   Hindsight is 20/20, and best we see what is really in that path ahead of us and what is not, so we can avoid or at least mitigate the inevitable regrets that hindsight most often serves up.

Huge kudos to Princess S.O. for the profound departure in the standard written fare.  It just illustrates the truth in the old adage:  “when you come to a fork in the road, take it…”

How do you finish off March the month of the Irish? With a Finn Again!!

This has been a good reading month. We have authors stepping up and trying new genres and now we have an author giving the readers exactly what we want. How many times have you wanted an update on the characters you have grown to love? You know just a little something to tide you over until the next story. Well R.G. Alexander has answered the call of her readers and given us an update on our favorite characters from the Finn Factor.

Finn Again by R.G. Alexander is the 5th story in her series the Finn Factor. I will let you know you really should read this series from the beginning. You will not be disappointed. It all starts with Jeremy Porter and Owen Finn and in this delightful addition to the series they play a major roll too. They have finally picked a date and they will not have a problem remembering their anniversary because it is going to be a Christmas Wedding! Now if you have not yet picked up this series you might consider that a spoiler but it is actually in invitation to see how they got together. Oh what a story that is, Curious, book one, is a dream come true for Owen and Jeremy. It is also one heck of an adventure for them and us.

Alright back to the Finn Again. As you all can probably attest the holidays can be fun and trying at the same time, add a big Irish family, a wedding and bachelor parties to the mix and this holiday season will be one for the books. I have to admit I would love to be part of the Finn Family. I so enjoyed catching up with what is going on with all of them and finding out how some of the stories are going.

Yes there are some great story lines that continue through the series as well as each character/couples story. One of the added treats to this fun addition to the Finn Factor is we also get a glimpse of the quieter members of the family as well as R.G. setting up Seamus story. I cannot wait for this one! But I am looking forward to James story too and Wyatt, Rory, Sol younger and I am truly hoping that Sol elder speaks to R.G. because he, I feel, finding his love would be an epic ending to this series. So many Finn’s so little time or should I say so many fantasies!

I just love this wonderfully diverse family and hope the stories continue for some time. It is a treat when an author gives us a story or series that keeps us not only rereading but imagining the characters long after we turn the last page. So if you are a member of the Finn Club enjoy and if you’re not yet a member this is a club what are you waiting for go grab the first book and come to the Green Side! We have pizza, beer and lasagna! Hahaha That is an inside joke and you will love learning about that one.

I highly recommend this series for anyone who loves a variety of couplings, adventure and good romance. Thank you R.G. Alexander!

12923361_1764778420422032_6708083550212492952_nTek Cain & Jamie Ryan work at the Guards of Folsom BDSM club. After two years on the run from their old motorcycle club and the Feds, Tek & Jamie are finally able to relax and enjoy their new life in New York City. But the past won’t stay buried, and when the MC resurfaces, it’s Jamie who pays the price. Tek and the rest of the members at the Guards of Folsom must work together to get back one of their own.

In this, the final installment in the Guards of Folsom series, everyone must come together, bound as one in their quest to find Jamie and bring him home once and for all.

 Viper Ice - Amazon

Viper Ice - bluer - divider element

Guards of Folsom readers were first introduced to Tek and Jaime in the very gritty and very intense, “Roped”, Book 4 of the series.  I suspected at that time, that we had not heard the end of them, because MC’s and Feds don’t just tend to let bygones be bygones.     I was delighted that their story would also serve as a conclusion to this really quite stellar series.

The action begins quickly, with the coming together of the Folsom Club members to aid Tek in freeing Jaime from the wrath and sadistic clutches of their former MC.   Interestingly, they do dispatch the MC rather nicely and with a surprising minimum of fuss, and the bulk of the story is then the post trauma adjustment to their new reality.

While not the course I expected the book to take, particularly given the graphic proceedings in “Roped”, I was nonetheless engaged by the post-angle trauma.  Many stories we read tend to gloss over the aftermath of upheaval and damage done by personal violation, and so to see the sequelae prominently and honestly scrutinized is pleasing.    In addition, these proceedings allowed, though in an ultimately accelerated time jump, an organic and realistic conclusion to the lives and futures of all the Guards of Folsom and their subs.

I did find it somewhat surprising for all the previous content about MC (Crimson VIII) intolerance to homosexuality and theft from within, that the much-feared retribution came from only the #1 and #2 of the Club.   I was under the impression that the “examples” such as Tek and Jaime should have been, would have been made with a much bigger and more dramatic show-down.   In addition, the Feds whom the guys spent the last two years looking over their shoulder for, not only never materialized, it seems the Federal radar was never targeting them.   While it wasn’t mentioned as such, at least not specifically, one wonders if Blake and his contacts might have had something to do with all of those records being expunged.     I found this…oversight, I guess?, to be something of a hole in an otherwise tight series for me.  Not a fatal shot by any means, just a bit of a scar.

“Bound”, while mainly about Tek and Jaime living a past behind and navigating a new future,  also serves a a tying of loose ends for the completely wonderful Guards of Folsom series.  I can not recommend this book and this series enough.  It is deeply emotional at every step of the way, the characters and their “lives” resonate, and its one of those worlds a reader can return to time and again to be with friends…

Astrum Industries’ newest charted planet. Freshly discovered. Wholly unexplored. But that won’t be the case for long. Led by Captain Alec Hamlin, a team of explorers make an emergency landing and are soon confronted by their first Niran native. A huge male Kríe packed with muscle, baring small, black horns and fangs. Fortunately, he’s friendly. Or so he lets them believe.

With the help of his pack, the Kríe takes Alec’s team captive, intending to sell them for profit. But these Nirans aren’t just shrewd, they’re arrogant and domineering. And most of all, extremely sexual. Which explains why, on their journey to peddle their new wares, they feed Alec’s team a powerful aphrodisiac. Nothing like some decadent entertainment on the side. Soon the team finds themselves feverishly trying to resist the growing urge to mount their seductive captors. But as passion prevails and unexpected bonds form, so much more is suddenly at stake. With no time left, will a shift in Kríe perspective be enough to change the fate of Alec’s team?

I am glad to see more authors taking on the challenge of writing in more than one genre or subgenre. Kora Knight has given us one hell of a story with Up-Ending Tad and now she is taking us boldly where no man has gone before with her new series The Nira Chronicles.

I received an ARC of Krie Captivity and I am glad I waited to write my review. I did give this story a second read because there were somethings that I had trouble wrapping my head around. I know in fantasy and sci-fi authors can take some artistic liberties so there are a few things that you may have to just go with in this story. But as with any good story your second read brings other things to light so I consider it a win win.

The first story in this series, Krie Captivity was recently released and I have to say the world Kora has created is a work of art. She has given us descriptions of color, creatures, and sexy purple aliens that bring them and this story to life. With a bunch of alpha males and a handful of scientist we have some great banter and different viewpoints to keep us turning the pages. It is fun to watch these characters, which are all male. Kora has some of the male behavior down to a T, or maybe I should say stereotypical behaviors.

If you have read any of Kora’s other stories you know she knows how to write some great sex scenes and in this story she takes that up a few notches too. I know some will disagree with me on this point but I felt the sex in this story took over the main story plot for a while. As I said Kora Knight can write steamy hot sex scenes but I have to admit some of it seemed to be of questionable consent. I think Kora anticipated this response from some of her readers because one of the characters shared his thoughts/feelings as to why it all worked out for the best. Good or bad, each reader will have to make that call for themselves. I am waiting to make that call after at least the next part of the story.

I am enjoying this story of exploration and discovery of a new world and the inhabitants. I wish we could have had the whole story for this one though. Kora Knight left us with a double cliff hanger, first the rescue team and then for the initial crew from the first voyage. So many questions and of course so many possibilities, I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the answers. So if you haven’t picked up Krie Captivity by Kora Knight grab it now and if you are one of those readers who like the whole story at once be sure to add it to your wish list either way I think you will enjoy this new series, The Nira Chronicles.

Samantha and her roommates Geoff and Chris always loved each other, but when Sam introduced the two men to the possibilities of deepening that relationship, something clicked. After all, they always had the desire to claim Sam, and to fulfill her fantasies of being taken by both of them. Yet as their sexual experiments grow in intensity, the two men open themselves up to even more unexplored naughty wishes – the ones they have about each other.

Although they’ve been close since childhood, there’s always been something more complex at the heart of the friendship between Geoff and Chris. All they needed was  a catalyst to bring it to life. Now that Sam has become that catalyst, Geoff and Chris fight for dominance—and the struggle between them is the stuff of absolute ecstasy.

1463592_1757807234452484_3272661470441480267_nSam is M.I.A. for work, so Geoff and Chris have time to think about their own relationship as well as put it in context with their relationship(s) with Sam.   Not an easy task after a lifetime of close friendship and background histories that also leave them doubting themselves in some ways.  Their conclusions are hard-fought and hard-won, and, as is the way with life, still a work-in-progress as the story leads into Book IV next month.

In some ways the introspection is classic Joey Hill.   Individual soul-searching and honest if difficult communication contributes to their testing of boundaries, and there is understandable confusion, anger, hurt feelings and restarts as the two find their way.  On the other hand, this is also a much more subdued Joey Hill than this reader is accustomed to.  There is a healthy dose of angsty-type thoughts and behaviours for both Geoff and Chris, and yet that is not truly fair, because the worries and reflections each experiences are hardly trivial.  Given the process of discovery that is the core of this story for all three, their complicated relationship and testing their place(s) within the lifestyle, I must give-way to this kinder, gentler approach.  But a part of me misses the intensity and the edginess and the core-deep, visceral experiences that are usually a Hill read.

Another part of me has to admit that I have had trouble warming up to Chris as a part of this triad, and yet again, to analyze the story honestly, it is difficult enough for two people to come to a working relationship never mind the next-level complexity that three individuals add, and I can’t even pinpoint my…stand-back reaction to Chris…never mind imagine negotiating the whole writing concept.

Make no mistake:  this is an excellent exploration of a new relationship that also involves a learning curve within a burgeoning D/s dynamic.   I don’t think this publisher-driven serialization of books in any way helps most stories unfold as the author would have them do, and so I await what we assume is the gelling of the complete relationship, in next month’s instalment.   I think I might re-read the first three Parts together and then delve into Part IV right after, so it reads as one complete story for me, as both the gods and the authors intend a book should be read.
