“True Love offers happiness, removes suffering, promotes joy and is inclusive.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

Watched a beautiful video with Thich Nhat Hanh on True Love before going to ICU this morning. It moved me to tears. Mercuri more conscious today. Thank you for your prayers #caregiverdiary

“O amor verdadeiro oferece felicidade, remove o sofrimento, faz crescer a alegria e é inclusivo.”

Me tocou profundamente. Obrigada pelas orações #diariodecuidadora

Privileged to hurt/ Privilégio de sentir dor

On another chapter of the ICU emotional roller coaster, I have learned a new medical term today, bradycardia. Apparently, Mercuri’s had some episodes of low heart rate. I only hurt this much because I love this much… so maybe it is a privilege to be able to hurt like this. Thank you for your prayers ❤ #caregiverdiary

To all my overseas friends who tried to contribute towards our fundraiser and couldn’t because of problems with the platform, thank you so much for having tried. Another friend suggested and contributed via Western Union and it worked. So, in case you would still like to contribute, here’s my info: Sandra Minori Yamamoto, Brazilian ID# : 13376358-4

Sequence of good news: Doctor says Mercuri will be out of ICU soon. Though still quite confused, he told me “I’m going to be strong for you Sweetie.” I ate pizza. And I smiled effortlessly today. Such is life right? Some days we cry. Some days we smile. Thank you sooooooo much for all the prayers.

Jantei pizza. E sorri muito hoje. E assim é a vida né?

Water rolling down my face/Água que escorre pelo rosto

Thanks...

Water rolling down my face/Água que escorre pelo rosto

Thanks to my incredibly resilient 82-yr old mother in law, herself a full time caregiver of yet another family member, I didn’t go to this morning’s ICU visit and had time for some “normal” activities. I did some long overdue work for our @heyamigoapp and I exercised. Today, the water rolling down my face ain’t tears but sweat.

While Mercuri is in ICU, I’d estimate each visit takes about three hours in total between prepping, commuting, staying there and commuting back. 3 visits per day equals 9 hours. When he’s out of ICU in the regular ward, I spend the night and do 12 to 14 hour “shifts.” The hours are crazy in addition to being emotionally draining. I love taking care of myself, I really do but under these circumstances, it is simply not possible. Today it was possible and I’m grateful #caregiverdiary

Doctors are pleased with Mercuri’s progress. He spent some time sitting down on the hospital chair today which means a lot of things, including that he’s not in pain. He remains confused and in ICU. Taking things one day at a time. Thank you very much for your prayers.

Tirei o atraso no trabalho do @heyamigoapp e fiz ginástica.

Eu adoro me cuidar e sempre me cuidei mas diante dessas condições, simplesmente não dá. Mas hoje deu e me sinto agradecida. #diariodecuidadora

Lost in dreams/Sonhando

Mercuri’s been in a state of delirium due to the infection for over a week. It’s like he’s lost somewhere in his dreams. Although he’s clinically better, it is emotionally very painful for me to witness his absence. Thank you for your prayers #caregiverjournal
