I'm SherryT, a fantasy author trapped on the U.S. east coast & longing to live on my fantasy world of Narenta but not during a war!
I enjoy helping fellow-writers & appreciate being helped; amateur photography; creating art by hand or graphics software; music esp filk, folk & world music ex. Putumayo. I like fantasy & mysteries but these days I write more than I read. I watch just a few TV shows a season but I'm very loyal to those I watch. I love 100’s of films. Other interests: ethnic cuisine, dark chocolate, my faith, playing servant to my cats Khiva & Vartha, “wasting time with my friends”, enjoying nature—except ice storms

I worked at a library for 30 years. What's better than being around books every day? Writing them.
I started my 1st N

Characters in a multvolume fantasy series written by Barbara Hambly in the mid-1980's.
Antryg Windrose, wizard & alleged sole prisoner in the magic-canceling Dark Tower. The tower's "address" is Empire of Ferryth, somewhere on a planet beyond the Void.
Joanna Sheraton, a mainframe programmer living in San Sarena on the outskirts of L.A. in the mid-1980's.
Antryg & Joanna are both terrified & physically battered by one or more enemies. Neither of them know whom to trust, even whether they dare trust anyone.
Brutal forces working against them include starvation, various untamed diseases including smallpox, a version of the Inquisition, unnatural beasts "invading" Antryg's world. The vast majority are terrified of magic and don't trust anyone who uses it or even appears to be using it.

Trust is important throughout this series. Antryg and Joanna have no reason to trust each other when they first meet but they are drawn to each other. Their mutual attraction flares & dies driven constantly by vague clues, misunderstood words, the planned actions of others, and their actual betrayals of each other.

Most readers would vote them the least likely couple to stay together for 3 months, much less a year +. But they never stop trying. Eventually, their need to be together pays off. I so loved it when Antryg and Joanna really became the couple they were meant to be all along. Even without earth-style vows, the pair has -already- demonstrated they'll remain committed through better or worse, rich or poorer, sickness & health, etc. -----------

(p.s. Indulge me? My actual favorite fictional couple are Cara Marshall and Harone na Hythe, both of whom I created in 1978.)(less)

I'm working on final revisions for Marooned (another story set on Narenta).

Once that's out, I'll be doing revisions to both Seabird and Earthbow. In the meantime, I'll try to find you a stray copy of E vol.2.

I don't suppose you know anyone who would be willing to "beta skim" Marooned? (chapter one = http://scrollchamber.blogspot.com/201... )

The Raft You Cannot See

"The Raft You Cannot See" by David Pippenger.

Someone related this account ten-plus years ago. It taught me an important lessom about letting go of a challenge we can't yet face and being patient while waiting for the actual solution to our "unsolvable problems".

I vaguely remembered David's account (below) but it had blended into a similar story--also involving someone stranded after losing a battl Read more of this blog post »
