Tristan, Wilma and the Alt-World books

The march on Baltimore Comic Con continues with Day Three. Today we turn the spotlight on the Cuddly Defender Range of Teddy Bears and Bunnies, and Charmingly Geeky Jewellery that will be available at my Artist Alley Booth A45.

Tristan the Teddy Bear was born from a collection of words, a whimsical paragraph that inspired a quick sketch that led to the a fully illustrated Children’s tale about a brave little Teddy Bear defending his child from the Monsters under the Bed.

We all remember that special stuffed animal we had as a child, the one that we couldn’t leave home without. Now you can pass those cherished memories onto your little ones with this wonderful tale of adventure and whimsy about a child’s teddy bear, Tristan, who defends his child while he sleeps from the monsters under the bed. Now you can get Tristan the Teddy Bear and the other Cuddly Defenders to watch over you or your child at night from my Artist Alley Booth at Baltimore Comic Con.

Tristan Lives!!!

The March on Baltimore Comic Con Day Two – Visit me at #BCC2013 Artist Alley Booth A45 for Original Tales of Adventure

Tristan and the Cuddly DefendersThe March on Baltimore Comic Con 2013 continues… Today we highlight the books both narrative and comic based that have written and will be bringing to my Artist Alley Booth A45.

First up is The Teddy Bear Tales I and II – these fully illustrated stories of adventure feature Tristan the Teddy Bear as he protects first his child, and then children everywhere from the evil Bogeyman and his Monsters under the bed. Written in a gleefully style by Nick Davis and illustrated by Dan Nokes, these stories are for all ages and for anyone who ever had a Teddy Bear.

Next inspired by the Teddy Bear Tales we have my first full color comic book – Tristan & the Cuddly Defenders. This 24 page comic is a preview of the upcoming graphic novel that takes our heroic Tristan the Teddy Bear into a new set of adventures. This time is he teamed up with the Cuddly Defenders, a small bear called Archer and Wilma Bunny. Together they defender the World within a World, and Children’s bedrooms from the evil Bogeyman and his Monsters under the bed. Written by Nick Davis, and illustrated by Dan Nokes, this Baltimore Comic Con exclusive is sure to sell out fast so join us to pick up this first all-ages Cuddly Defenders comic book.

For all of you who love a good Once Upon a Time story, the original all-ages fantasy adventure stories The Wonder Tales will be available in a printed format that collects together the first six stories that feature The Archer and his Horse. These tales are high fantasy set in the mysterious land of the Ninth Kingdom and feature firebirds, flying Pirate ships, evil Witches, dim-witted Trolls, fearsome Ogres and a talking Horse.

Also available will the be gentle fully illustrated Once Upon a Time Wonder Tale The Daughter of Frost, a fairy tale I wrote for my Daughter. Written in the traditional style of good is good, evil is evil and always comes to a sticky end, this tale of happiness, music and love is a spellbinding introduction to the magic of The Wonder Tales.

Fabula Exposition Cover

Fabula Exposition Cover

Fabula Zero Exposition was my first real trip into writing a graphic novel comic book story featuring Superheroes and Ninjas. This isn’t your traditional superhero story though… Exposition twists your reality as it jumps between comic book action and narrative story telling as we follow the mis-adventures of Jack a comic book writer with a huge case of writers block. After getting the lead write on a flagship comic book Jack cannot finish his story and his characters start to come alive to finish it for him. Throwing Jack into all sorts of comic book adventures from facing Giant Robots to fighting Ninjas dangling above a comic book convention. This is the most unique graphic novel you will ever read and will leave you wondering just what reality is Jack in?

Speaking of realities I will also be bringing Sigmartyr – They Shall inherit an unofficial action figure comic book, a 42 page graphic novel that is set in an Apocalyptic reality were only bio-engineered Soldiers are left to fight a long forgotten war. This is a photo action comic book that uses Stikfas figures to tell a dark action adventure. Stylized in the traditional English Battle comics, this is a dark and grim tale that pulls no punches.

And finally moving up the age scale with a story that is a mature teen/young adult adventure is dark narrative adventure The Tether Saga, the story of Sarah teenage girl who has reluctantly been thrust into the role of our realities protector. She is aided in this task by CT the Grandson of the original Protector and by Paul, a Guardian Angel of sorts that she controls via the Tether device. This adventure is set on the streets of Baltimore and will leave you watching the shadows. The story is planned as a trilogy and currently The Tether and Accept One are available.

Quite a list, eh? Nine original stories of adventure that you wont find anywhere else at Baltimore Comic Con, come and check out all the action at Artist Alley Booth A45.

Retro-Future Cuddly Defenders Concept by Nick Davis

Retro-Future Cuddly Defenders Concept by Nick Davis

I’ve had this image in my mind for sometime, I wanted to give the Cuddly Defenders a kind of Buck Rodgers Retro make over and here it is. From left to right, Archer, Tristan and Wilma completed with fun Retro-future/Diesel-punk make-over ready to take on the Bogeyman and the Monsters under the Bed.

This Teddy Bear Tale concept was completed on tan paper with markers and black ink, highlights were completed with charcoal pencil. If you are interested in buying this piece you can get it from my Artist Alley Booth A45 at Baltimore Comic Con on September 7 to 8.

It’s Official!!! Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket Raccoon has found his voice it’s Bradley Cooper

Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket Raccoon conceptI’ve known about this for a couple of weeks, but I wanted to see if it was official before posting about it. The character who I predict will be the breakout star of the Guardians of the Galaxy Movie – Rocket Raccoon has found his voice; and it is Bradley Cooper!!! I kid you not. While the jury is out if his voice is strong enough for this sort of work, but I will give him the benefit until I hear him.Bradley CooperSo that means he joins a cast that includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillen and Michael Rooker. In a movie that is part of the Marvel Movie Universe Second Phase and introduces the audience to the more cosmic end of Marvel’s pantheon. I’m very excited to see this movie, it is going to be a lot different in terms of team dynamic to popcorn fest that was the Avengers… And best of all it has Rocker Raccoon in it!!! The Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters August 1, 2014.

Sketch Cover by Nick Davis – Tristan & the Cuddly Defenders Issue Zero Comic for Baltimore Comic Con 2013

Tristan & the Cuddly Defender Sketch Cover Issue by Nick Davis

Tristan & the Cuddly Defender Sketch Cover Issue by Nick Davis

Along with the regular cover of the exclusive Tristan & the Cuddly Defenders Issue Zero Comic – I had a few Sketch Covers made up. Two of these Sketch Covers I’ve sent to Dan Nokes, the Teddy Bear Tale Artist to have fun with. And I had a go at one myself tipping my hat a little toward to the great Jack Kirby, the results of which you can see above.

Sketch Cover Comic Books are a growing phenom on the convention circuit and allow the collector to have a totally unique book. I hope at least one Teddy Bear Tale fan will pick up my unique take on Tristan the Defender Bear and small Kirby homage to add to their collection. You can find Tristan & the Cuddly Defenders Issue Zero and the Sketch Cover additions at my Baltimore Comic Con Artist Alley Booth A45 along with other Teddy Bear coolness. Look forward to seeing you there on September 7 to 8.

Opinion – Nerdrage goes to far Ben Affleck Death threats over casting for the next Batman/Superman movie #Batfleck

I am Batman by Nick Davis

I am Batman by Nick Davis

What is a fan? It is after all short for fanatic, but what is fanatic…

fanatic [fəˈnætɪk]

n

1. a person whose enthusiasm or zeal for something is extreme or beyond normal limits
2. Informal a person devoted to a particular hobby or pastime; fan a jazz fanatic

adj a variant of fanatical

As fan’s we are devoted to our hobby be it reading, drawing or creating, but as fan’s we can let ourselves down and over the casting of the next Batman I am ashamed to say it has gone to far. The rant begins after the jump…

I’ve been reading reports today of fanatical Bat-fans who have been in a complete frothing at the mouth nerdrage over Ben Affleck being cast as Batman. A lot if it was unfounded and nothing I’ve not seen before for other Batman casting announcements, we saw it for Anne Hathaway, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale and even for the first movie Batman Michael Keaton. Everyone has their own idea of who will play this dark, driven vigilante so no choice… No choice at all would please the fanatics. Okay, I will admit with Ben Affleck it was a surprise, but based on his Daredevil performance he will nail this role. After all it isn’t too complicated to do. Even Michael Keaton said he could have done it while reading a book.

But now it has gone to far… There are death threats… And this my friends is not funny.

Threatening a life over something as trivial as a movie role? How is the acceptable behavior? At what point are you such a fanatic that you tip over the edge and threaten lives? Some say it is because of their passion for the character… Me I will say this… You’re a dick… Everything that is wrong about a fan is you. Not only are you a dick, but you’re a murderous dick on the level of a Terrorist because you are prepared to use the violence of taking a life to exercise your opinion. There is something wrong with your head… Very wrong…

As fan’s we will moan and complain about roles and movies, I still think Man of Steel is the worst Superman movie ever, but it was nothing to threaten a life over. Get a life. The ironic thing you who condone, who support, who think and commit these death threats are the very thing your idol Batman fights against…

I am sad, I am disappointed, I don’t care if my words here lose me fans because you are the sort of fans I don’t want to have. I enjoy Superheroes, I enjoy comics, I see the joy, the escapism, the romance, the passion that this genre, that this hobby brings to so many. And you… Mr Big Man Death Threat steals that, will you be the next nut out to kill innocent people at the opening of this movie? Are you going to blame the casting of Ben Affleck for your own malfunction?

Why so serious?

You are ugly… Seriously fucking get over yourself…

Rant over…

Be careful with the Earth.

Nick Davis
