"The great technological vampire of modern times, television rests in a box and is especially active at night, when it mesmerizes us with a baleful gaze. Like a vampiric encounter, television is about living vicariously in a deadened trace state."

Mike returns from his tour of Scotland to fill Alex in on all the news. First up: what is the ruling on regaling friends on all of the pleasant things that happened on a perfectly nice vacation? Yea or Nay? Also: Mike saw the movie CARS, and is outraged. Speaking of outrage, Alex is feeling…

The Netflix Conundrum

One drawback to the current trend of streaming movies is that I'm less inclined to watch movies on DVD. For instance, on twitter I asked for suggestions for heist/con-artist movies (a genre I have a weakness for). People replied with some good suggestions, including ones that are well-regarded like Rififi. The problem is, it's not streaming and I don't want to watch a well-done heist movie in five days, I want it now.

In all likelihood, I'll peruse what's available on the streaming Netflix and settle for that. I won't bother adding Rififi to my queue and life goes on. I certainly can't be alone in my behavior so one can only imagine how many hours are spent watching so-so movies because their superior cousins are tied up in some licensing problem or rights squabble or whathave you.

Can anyone recommend a good heist/con-artist movie currently available on streaming? I'll even settle for Hulu.

My Haul From the Small Press Expo. I spent more this weekend at SPX than I have at a comics show in a long time. I suspect there is a correlation between the amount of books I bought and my pledge to try and be more social.
