Conscious Cat Sunday: Contentment
When I think about what contentment looks like, I think of a purring cat. If there’s anything that illustrates happiness better, I don’t know what that would be.And it doesn’t take much for cats to be content: a sunny spot on the floor, a full tummy, a lap to curl up on – those are the ingredients for contentment when you’re a cat.
Why is it so hard for humans to reach that same state of contentment? Why do so many of us always look for the next best thing? For some people, the mindset for happ...

This beautifully illustrated collection is a celebration of cats. The book features articles, poems and humor pieces by such literary luminaries as Margaret Atwood, Roald Dahl, Robert Graves, Ted Hughes, Jamaica Kincaid, Jean Rhys, James Thurber, John Updike, Sylvia Townsend Warn...

How Cats See the World
Cats’ eyes are perfectly designed by nature to aid them in hunting in low light and at night. While they are nearsighted and can’t see colors as we see them, they have great night vision, and they can also pick up movement better than human eyes.
I recently came across a series of images created by artist Nickolay Lamm. After consulting with several veterinary ophthalmologists, he created visualizations comparing how cats see the world vs. how humans see the world. The photo below is only one...

Tipsy Nip Organic Catnip Products Review
Let me just cut to the chase: Allegra and Ruby went nuts as soon as I slit open the package from Tipsy Nip™ Organic Catnip Products, the creators of the original Tickle Pickle™! Even I could smell the catnip before I took the toys out of their plastic wrap. Allegra started chewing on the packages – clearly, I wasn’t opening them fast enough. That is some potent catnip!
The girls were in catnip heaven. We received two Purple Haze Tickle Pickles™, two packages of Tickle Gherkins, a Tummy Tickler...

How to Calm a Fearful Cat
Fear in cats can manifest in different ways. Some cats will hide, others will become aggressive and lash out at their guardian. Cats may be fearful of strangers, loud noises, or simply have a fearful personality. No matter what the cause, a cat who is constantly afraid is not a happy cat.
In a recent article on Answers.com, I provided some solutions on how to help your cat manage her fears.

Mews and Nips: New York Artists Compete in Cat Painting Takedown
A competition at Brooklyn’s Active Space Gallery is challenging artists to create the purr-fect work of art. Artists will have two hours to complete their cat themed paintings. Contestants are already planning their contributions for the November 24 contest. “I definitely want to defend my title,” Susanne Lamb, 25, told the Daily News. Lamb took first place in a related Black Velvet Painting Takedown in August. She’s using her tortoiseshell cat, Olive, shown in the sketch above, as her mewse....
